Luc 23
1 Toute la troupe se leva et l'amena devant Pilate.
AND the whole multitude of them rising up, led him to Pilate,
2 Ils se mirent à l'accuser, en disant: « Nous avons trouvé cet homme qui pervertit la nation, qui interdit de payer les impôts à César, et qui dit qu'il est lui-même le Christ, un roi. »
and began to accuse him, saying, We have found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to pay tribute to Caesar; pretending that he himself is the King Messiah.
3 Pilate lui demanda: « Es-tu le roi des Juifs? » Il lui répondit: « C'est ce que tu dis. »
Then Pilate interrogated him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said to him, Thou sayest so.
4 Pilate dit aux chefs des prêtres et à la foule: « Je ne trouve aucun motif d'accusation contre cet homme. »
Then said Pilate unto the chief priests and the multitudes, I find nothing culpable in this man.
5 Mais ils insistèrent, disant: « Il excite le peuple, enseignant dans toute la Judée, depuis la Galilée jusqu'ici. »
But they were urgent, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching through all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.
6 Mais Pilate, ayant entendu parler de la Galilée, demanda si cet homme était Galiléen.
When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilean?
7 Ayant appris qu'il était dans la juridiction d'Hérode, il l'envoya à Hérode, qui était aussi à Jérusalem en ce temps-là.
And when he knew that he came out of Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was himself at Jerusalem in those days.
8 Lorsque Hérode vit Jésus, il eut une grande joie, car il y avait longtemps qu'il désirait le voir, ayant entendu dire beaucoup de choses sur lui. Il espérait voir quelque miracle accompli par lui.
Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was vastly delighted: for he had been long desirous to see him, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to see some miracle wrought by him.
9 Il l'interrogea avec beaucoup de mots, mais il ne répondit pas.
And he put a variety of questions to him; but he made him no reply.
10 Les chefs des prêtres et les scribes, debout, l'accusaient avec véhémence.
And the chief priests and the scribes stood up vehemently accusing him.
11 Hérode et ses soldats l'humiliaient et se moquaient de lui. Après l'avoir revêtu de vêtements de luxe, ils le renvoyèrent à Pilate.
Then Herod with his guards treated him with contempt, and in derision clothed him in a splendid robe, and sent him back to Pilate.
12 Ce jour-là, Hérode et Pilate se lièrent d'amitié, car ils étaient auparavant ennemis l'un de l'autre.
And Pilate and Herod the same day became friends together: for they had previously been at enmity with each other.
13 Pilate convoqua les principaux sacrificateurs, les magistrats et le peuple,
Then Pilate, convoking the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 et leur dit: Tu m'as amené cet homme comme étant un homme qui pervertit le peuple; or, après l'avoir examiné devant vous, je n'ai trouvé aucun motif d'accusation contre cet homme au sujet des choses dont tu l'accuses.
said unto them, Ye have brought this man to me, as one who perverteth the people: and lo! on examining him before you, I have found nothing culpable in this man, respecting the charges ye bring against him:
15 Hérode non plus, car je t'ai envoyé vers lui, et voici, il n'a rien fait de digne de mort.
nor Herod neither: for I referred you to him; and, lo, nothing is done to this man, as if he deserved death.
16 Je vais donc le châtier et le relâcher. »
I will therefore, after scourging, discharge him.
17 Or, il devait leur relâcher un prisonnier à l'occasion de la fête.
(Now he held it necessary to release one to them at the feast.)
18 Mais ils s'écrièrent tous ensemble: « Lâchez cet homme! Relâchez-nous Barabbas,
Then the whole multitude set up a cry, saying, Away with this fellow, and release unto us Barabbas!
19 qui avait été jeté en prison pour une révolte dans la ville et pour un meurtre. »
(who for a certain sedition raised in the city, and for murder, had been cast into prison.)
20 Alors Pilate leur parla de nouveau, voulant relâcher Jésus,
Again therefore Pilate called out to them, desirous to see Jesus at liberty.
21 mais ils crièrent: « Crucifie! Crucifie-le! »
But they clamoured the more, saying, Crucify, crucify him.
22 Il leur dit pour la troisième fois: « Pourquoi? Quel mal a fait cet homme? Je n'ai trouvé en lui aucun crime capital. Je vais donc le châtier et le relâcher. »
Then the third time he said to them, What evil hath this man done? I have found nothing deserving death in him: I will therefore, after scourging, discharge him.
23 Mais ils insistaient à voix haute, demandant qu'il soit crucifié. Leurs voix et celles des principaux sacrificateurs l'emportèrent.
But they were instant with the most clamorous vociferations, soliciting that he might be crucified. And their clamours, and those of the chief priests, bore him down.
24 Pilate décréta que ce qu'ils demandaient devait être fait.
Then Pilate decreed that their petition should be granted.
25 Il relâcha celui qui avait été jeté en prison pour insurrection et meurtre, celui qu'ils demandaient, mais il livra Jésus à leur volonté.
Then released he to them him who for sedition and murder had been cast into prison; but he gave up Jesus to their will.
26 Après l'avoir emmené, ils saisirent un certain Simon de Cyrène, venu du pays, et lui mirent la croix pour la porter après Jésus.
And as they led him out, laying hold on one Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming from the country, they laid on him the cross, to carry after Jesus.
27 Une grande foule du peuple le suivait, y compris des femmes qui, elles aussi, le pleuraient et le déploraient.
And a great multitude of the people and of women followed him, who also beat their breasts and lamented him bitterly.
28 Mais Jésus, se tournant vers elles, dit: « Filles de Jérusalem, ne pleurez pas sur moi, mais pleurez sur vous-mêmes et sur vos enfants.
But Jesus turning to them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but for yourselves, and for your children.
29 Car voici venir des jours où l'on dira: Heureuses les stériles, les entrailles qui n'ont pas enfanté, les mamelles qui n'ont pas allaité!
For, behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs which have not borne, and the breasts which never suckled.
30 Alors ils se mettront à dire aux montagnes: « Tombez sur nous », et aux collines: « Couvrez-nous ».
Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us! and to the hills, Cover us!
31 Car s'ils font ces choses dans l'arbre vert, que fera-t-on dans l'arbre sec? ".
For if they do all these things with the green wood, what will be done with the dry?
32 Il y en avait aussi d'autres, deux malfaiteurs, conduits avec lui pour être mis à mort.
Now there were two other persons, malefactors, led out with him to be executed.
33 Lorsqu'ils arrivèrent au lieu appelé « Crâne », ils le crucifièrent là avec les malfaiteurs, l'un à droite et l'autre à gauche.
And when they came to a place called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, the one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
34 Jésus dit: « Père, pardonne-leur, car ils ne savent pas ce qu'ils font. » Ils se partagèrent ses vêtements en tirant au sort.
And Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. Then dividing his garments, they cast the lot.
35 Le peuple était là, à regarder. Les chefs qui étaient avec eux se moquaient aussi de lui, disant: « Il a sauvé les autres. Qu'il se sauve lui-même, si c'est là le Christ de Dieu, son élu! »
And the people stood looking on. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if this fellow is the Messiah, the elect of God.
36 Les soldats se moquaient aussi de lui, s'approchant de lui et lui offrant du vinaigre,
And the soldiers also insulted him, coming and offering him vinegar,
37 et disant: « Si tu es le roi des Juifs, sauve-toi toi-même! »
and saying, if thou art the King of the Jews, save thyself.
38 Une inscription était aussi placée au-dessus de lui en lettres grecques, latines et hébraïques: « C'EST LE ROI DES JUIFS ».
And there was an inscription written over him in Greek, Roman, and Hebrew characters, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
39 L'un des malfaiteurs qui avait été pendu l'insulta en disant: « Si tu es le Christ, sauve-toi toi-même et nous! ».
Then one of the suspended malefactors blasphemed him, saying, If thou art the Messiah, save thyself and us.
40 Mais l'autre, prenant la parole, le réprimanda et dit: « Tu ne crains même pas Dieu, puisque tu es sous la même condamnation?
But the other addressing him, rebuked him, saying, Hast thou no fear of God, when thou art under the same condemnation?
41 Nous, en effet, nous sommes justes, car nous recevons la récompense de nos actes; mais cet homme n'a rien fait de mal. »
And we indeed justly, for we receive deserved punishment for the crimes we have committed: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42 Il dit à Jésus: « Seigneur, souviens-toi de moi quand tu viendras dans ton Royaume. »
And he said to Jesus, Remember me, Lord, when thou comest in thy kingdom.
43 Jésus lui dit: « Je te le dis en vérité, aujourd'hui tu seras avec moi dans le paradis. »
And Jesus said to him. Verily I say unto thee, To-day thou shalt be with me in paradise.
44 Il était environ la sixième heure, et les ténèbres se répandirent sur tout le pays jusqu'à la neuvième heure.
And it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.
45 Le soleil s'obscurcit, et le voile du temple se déchira en deux.
And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
46 Jésus, poussant un grand cri, dit: « Père, entre tes mains je remets mon esprit. » Ayant dit cela, il rendit le dernier soupir.
And Jesus crying with a loud voice, said, Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit: and having said this, he expired.
47 Le centurion, voyant ce qui s'était passé, glorifia Dieu, en disant: « Certainement, c'était un homme juste. »
And the centurion observing what had come to pass, glorified God, saying, Verily this man was a righteous person.
48 Toute la foule qui s'était rassemblée pour voir cela, à la vue de ce qui s'était passé, s'en retourna chez elle en se frappant la poitrine.
And all the multitudes who had come together for this spectacle, when they saw the things which were done, beating their breasts, returned.
49 Toutes les personnes de sa connaissance et les femmes qui l'avaient suivi depuis la Galilée se tenaient à distance, observant ces choses.
And all his acquaintance stood afar off, and the women which followed him from Galilee, beholding these things.
50 Voici, il y avait un homme nommé Joseph, membre du sanhédrin, homme bon et juste
And lo! a man named Joseph, being a member of the council, a good man, and a just;
51 (il n'avait pas consenti à leurs conseils et à leurs actes), originaire d'Arimathée, ville des Juifs, qui attendait aussi le royaume de Dieu.
(who had not given his assent to their determination and deed; ) being of Arimathea, a city of the Jews: who himself also expected the coming of the kingdom of God.
52 Cet homme se rendit auprès de Pilate, et demanda le corps de Jésus.
He went in to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
53 Il le descendit, l'enveloppa dans un linceul, et le déposa dans un tombeau taillé dans la pierre, où personne n'avait jamais été mis.
And taking it down from the cross, he wrapped it in linen cloth, and laid it in a sepulchre hewn out of a rock, where none had ever yet lain.
54 C'était le jour de la Préparation, et le sabbat approchait.
And that was the preparation-day, and the sabbath’s twilight was approaching.
55 Les femmes de Galilée qui étaient venues avec lui suivirent, et virent le tombeau et la manière dont son corps avait été déposé.
Then the women also, his attendants, who had followed him out of Galilee, observed the sepulchre, and how his corpse was laid out.
56 Elles s'en retournèrent et préparèrent des aromates et des onguents. Le jour du sabbat, elles se reposèrent, selon le commandement.
And returning, they made preparation of aromatics and unguents; and they rested the sabbath-day, according to the commandment.
