Luc 11
1 Comme il achevait de prier dans un certain lieu, un de ses disciples lui dit: « Seigneur, apprends-nous à prier, comme Jean l'a aussi enseigné à ses disciples. »
And as he was praying in a certain place, it occurred, that when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him: Our Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
2 Il leur dit: « Lorsque vous priez, dites, « Notre Père qui est aux cieux, que votre nom soit gardé saint. Que ton règne vienne. Que votre volonté soit faite sur la terre, comme au ciel.
Jesus said to them: When ye pray, thus speak ye: Our Father who art in heaven, hallow be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy pleasure be done, as in heaven, so on earth;
3 Donne-nous jour après jour notre pain quotidien.
give us daily the bread we need;
4 Pardonnez-nous nos péchés, car nous aussi, nous pardonnons à tous ceux qui nous sont redevables. Ne nous soumets pas à la tentation, mais délivre-nous du malin. »
and remit to us our sins, for we also remit to all that are indebted to us; and bring us not into trials, but deliver us from evil.
5 Il leur dit: « Lequel d'entre vous, s'il va à minuit chez un ami et lui dit: « Ami, prête-moi trois pains,
And he said to them: Which of you shall have a friend, that shall come to him at midnight and say to him, My friend, lend me three cakes;
6 car un de mes amis est venu me voir au retour d'un voyage, et je n'ai rien à lui présenter,
for a friend hath come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him?
7 et celui du dedans répondra: « Ne me dérange pas. La porte est maintenant fermée, et mes enfants sont couchés avec moi. Je ne peux pas me lever et te le donner »?
And his friend within shall answer, and say to him: Do not disturb me, for lo, the door is closed, and my children with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
8 Je vous le dis, même s'il ne se lèvera pas pour le lui donner parce qu'il est son ami, il se lèvera, à cause de son obstination, et lui en donnera autant qu'il en a besoin.
I say to you: If he give him not, on account of friendship, yet on account of his importunity, he will arise and give him as much as he asketh.
9 « Je vous le dis, continuez à demander, et l'on vous donnera. Cherchez toujours, et vous trouverez. Continuez à frapper, et l'on vous ouvrira.
I say also to you: Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and ye will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
10 Car quiconque demande reçoit. Celui qui cherche trouve. A celui qui frappe, on ouvre.
For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, it is opened.
11 « Lequel d'entre vous, pères, si son fils demande du pain, lui donnera une pierre? Ou s'il demande un poisson, ne lui donnera-t-il pas un serpent au lieu d'un poisson?
For which of you being a father, if his son shall ask him for bread, will he reach to him a stone? Or, if he ask of him a fish, will he, instead of a fish, reach to him a serpent?
12 Ou s'il demande un œuf, il ne lui donnera pas un scorpion, n'est-ce pas?
Or, if he ask of him an egg, will he reach to him a scorpion?
13 Si donc vous, qui êtes mauvais, vous savez donner de bonnes choses à vos enfants, à combien plus forte raison votre Père céleste donnera-t-il le Saint-Esprit à ceux qui le lui demandent. »
And if ye, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father from heaven give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
14 Il chassait un démon, et cet homme était muet. Quand le démon fut sorti, le muet parla, et la foule fut dans l'étonnement.
And as he was casting out a demon that was dumb, it occurred, that when the demon had gone out, the dumb man conversed: and the multitudes admired.
15 Mais quelques-uns d'entre eux disaient: « Il chasse les démons par Béelzébul, le prince des démons. »
But some of them said: It is by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that he casteth out demons.
16 D'autres, l'éprouvant, attendaient de lui un signe venant du ciel.
And others, to tempt him, asked of him a sign from heaven.
17 Mais lui, connaissant leurs pensées, leur dit: « Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même est dévasté. Une maison divisée contre elle-même tombe.
But Jesus, as he knew their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom that is divided against itself, will become a desolation: and a house that is divided against itself, will fall.
18 Si Satan aussi est divisé contre lui-même, comment son royaume subsistera-t-il? Car vous dites que c'est par Béelzébul que je chasse les démons.
And if Satan be divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? since ye say, that I by Beelzebub cast out demons.
19 Mais si c'est par Béelzébul que je chasse les démons, par qui vos enfants les chassent-ils? C'est pourquoi ils seront vos juges.
And if I, by Beelzebub, cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore will they be to you judges.
20 Mais si c'est par le doigt de Dieu que je chasse les démons, c'est que le Royaume de Dieu est venu à vous.
But if I, by the finger of God, cast out demons, the kingdom of God hath come near to you.
21 « Quand un homme fort, bien armé, garde sa propre demeure, ses biens sont en sécurité.
When a strong man armed keepeth his doorway, his property rests securely.
22 Mais lorsque quelqu'un de plus fort l'attaque et le vainc, il lui enlève toute l'armure dans laquelle il se confiait, et partage son butin.
But if a stronger than he come and overpower him, he taketh away all his arms on which he relied, and divideth the spoil of him.
23 « Celui qui n'est pas avec moi est contre moi. Celui qui ne s'assemble pas avec moi se disperse.
He that is not for me, is against me; and he that gathereth not with me, actually scattereth.
24 L'esprit impur, lorsqu'il est sorti de l'homme, passe par des lieux arides, cherchant du repos; et n'en trouvant pas, il dit: « Je retournerai dans ma maison d'où je suis sorti.
An unclean spirit, when he goeth out of a man, goeth wandering in places where no water is, in order to find rest; and, as he cannot find it he saith: I will return to my habitation, from which I came.
25 Quand il revient, il la trouve balayée et rangée.
And when he cometh, he findeth it swept clean and set in order.
26 Alors il s'en va et prend sept autres esprits plus mauvais que lui, et ils y entrent et y demeurent. Le dernier état de cet homme devient pire que le premier. »
Then he goeth and taketh seven other spirits, worse than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
27 Comme il parlait ainsi, une femme de la foule éleva la voix et lui dit: « Heureux le sein qui t'a porté et les mamelles qui t'ont allaité! »
And while he was saying these things, a certain woman from the crowd, lifted up her voice, and said to him: Blessed is the womb that carried thee, and the breasts that nursed thee.
28 Mais il dit: « Au contraire, heureux ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et la gardent. »
He said to her: Blessed are they who hear the word of God, and keep it.
29 Comme les foules s'assemblaient autour de lui, il se mit à dire: « Cette génération est mauvaise. Elle cherche un signe. Il ne lui sera donné d'autre signe que le signe de Jonas, le prophète.
And when multitudes were assembled, he began to say: This evil generation seeketh a sign; and no sign will be given it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet.
30 Car, de même que Jonas a été un signe pour les Ninivites, de même le Fils de l'homme le sera pour cette génération.
For as Jonah was a sign to the Ninevites, so also will the Son of man be a sign to this generation.
31 La reine du Midi se lèvera au tribunal avec les hommes de cette génération et les condamnera, car elle est venue des extrémités de la terre pour entendre la sagesse de Salomon; et voici qu'il y a ici un plus grand que Salomon.
The queen of the south will stand up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and will condemn them; for she came from the other side of the earth, to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and lo, one superior to Solomon is here.
32 Les hommes de Ninive se lèveront en jugement avec les hommes de cette génération et la condamneront, car ils se sont repentis à la prédication de Jonas; et voici, un plus grand que Jonas est ici.
The men of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment with this generation, and will condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and lo, one superior to Jonah is here.
33 « Personne, après avoir allumé une lampe, ne la met dans une cave ou sous un panier, mais sur un support, afin que ceux qui entrent voient la lumière.
No one lighteth a lamp, and putteth it in a secret place, or under a bushel, but upon a light-stand; that they who come in, may see its light.
34 La lampe du corps, c'est l'œil. C'est pourquoi, quand ton œil est bon, tout ton corps est aussi plein de lumière; mais quand il est mauvais, ton corps aussi est plein de ténèbres.
The lamp of thy body is thy eye. Therefore, when thy eye is sound, thy whole body will be enlightened; but if it be bad, thy body also will be dark.
35 Regarde donc si la lumière qui est en toi n'est pas ténèbres.
See to it, therefore, lest the light that is in thee, be darkness.
36 Si donc tout ton corps est plein de lumière, n'ayant aucune partie obscure, il sera tout entier plein de lumière, comme lorsque la lampe, par son éclat, t'éclaire. »
For if thy whole body be enlightened, and no part in it be dark, the whole will be luminous, as if a lamp enlightened thee by its radiance.
37 Comme il parlait, un pharisien lui demanda de dîner avec lui. Il entra et se mit à table.
And while he was speaking, a certain Pharisee requested him to dine with him: and he went in, and reclined.
38 Lorsque le pharisien le vit, il s'étonna qu'il ne se soit pas d'abord lavé avant de dîner.
And the Pharisee noticing him, wondered that he did not previously baptize before dinner.
39 Le Seigneur lui dit: « Vous, les pharisiens, vous nettoyez l'extérieur de la coupe et du plat, mais votre intérieur est plein de rapines et de méchancetés.
And Jesus said to him: Now ye Pharisees make clean the exterior of the cup and the dish; but your interior is full of extortion and wickedness.
40 Insensés, celui qui a fait le dehors n'a-t-il pas aussi fait le dedans?
Ye deficient in understanding! did not he who made the exterior, make also the interior?
41 Mais donnez aux indigents ce qui est à l'intérieur, et voici, tout sera pur pour vous.
But, give ye alms from what ye possess; and lo, every thing will be clean to you.
42 Mais malheur à vous, pharisiens! Car vous payez la dîme de la menthe, de la rue et de toutes les herbes, mais vous passez outre la justice et l'amour de Dieu. Vous auriez dû faire ces deux choses, et ne pas laisser l'autre en suspens.
But woe to you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue, and every pot-herb; but pass over justice and the love of God. Now ye ought to do these things, and not to omit those.
43 Malheur à vous, pharisiens! Car vous aimez les meilleures places dans les synagogues et les salutations sur les places de marché.
Woe to you, Pharisees! who love the chief seats in the synagogues, and a salutation in the streets.
44 Malheur à vous, scribes et pharisiens, hypocrites! Car vous êtes comme des sépultures cachées, et les hommes qui marchent dessus ne le savent pas. »
Woe to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like graves that are unknown, and men walk over them and do not know it.
45 L'un des avocats lui répondit: « Maître, en disant cela, tu nous insultes nous aussi. »
And one of the Scribes replied, and said to him: Teacher, while saying these things, thou reproachest us also.
46 Il dit: « Malheur à vous aussi, avocats! Car vous chargez les hommes de fardeaux difficiles à porter, et vous-mêmes ne levez pas le petit doigt pour aider à porter ces fardeaux.
And he said: Woe to you also! ye Scribes, who lade men with heavy burdens; yet ye yourselves will not touch those burdens with one of your fingers
47 Malheur à vous! Car vous bâtissez les tombeaux des prophètes, que vos pères ont tués.
Woe to you! who build the sepulchres of the prophets, whom your fathers slew.
48 Vous rendez ainsi témoignage et vous consentez aux œuvres de vos pères. Car ils les ont tués, et vous bâtissez leurs tombeaux.
Thus ye testify, that ye acquiesce in the deeds of your fathers; for they slew them, and ye build their sepulchres.
49 C'est pourquoi la sagesse de Dieu a dit: « Je leur enverrai des prophètes et des apôtres, et ils tueront et persécuteront quelques-uns d'entre eux,
Therefore hath wisdom said: Lo, I will send to them prophets and legates; and some of them they will persecute and slay;
50 afin que le sang de tous les prophètes, qui a été versé dès la fondation du monde, soit exigé de cette génération,
that from this generation may be required, the blood of all the prophets, which hath been shed since the world was created;
51 depuis le sang d'Abel jusqu'au sang de Zacharie, qui a péri entre l'autel et le sanctuaire ». Oui, je vous le dis, il sera exigé de cette génération.
from the blood of Abel, to the blood of Zachariah who was slain between the temple and the altar. Yea, say I to you: It will be required of this generation.
52 Malheur à vous, avocats! Car vous avez emporté la clé de la connaissance. Vous n'êtes pas entrés vous-mêmes, et ceux qui entraient, vous les avez empêchés. »
Woe to you, Scribes; for ye have taken away the keys of knowledge: ye yourselves enter not, and them that are entering ye hinder.
53 Comme il leur disait cela, les scribes et les pharisiens commencèrent à s'irriter terriblement, et à tirer de lui beaucoup de choses,
And when he had said these things to them, the Scribes and Pharisees began to be offended, and became angry, and carped at his discourses,
54 le guettant et cherchant à le surprendre dans quelque chose qu'il pourrait dire, afin de l'accuser.
and practised many wiles upon him, seeking to catch some thing from his lips, that they might accuse him.
