Juges 15
1 Mais au bout de quelque temps, au moment de la moisson des blés, Samson rendit visite à sa femme avec un chevreau. Il dit: « Je vais entrer dans la chambre de ma femme. » Mais son père ne lui permit pas d'entrer.
And it comes to pass after [some] days, in the days of wheat-harvest, that Samson looks after his wife, with a kid of the goats, and says, “I go in to my wife, to the inner chamber”; and her father has not permitted him to go in,
2 Son père dit: « J'ai bien cru que tu la détestais; c'est pourquoi je l'ai donnée à ton compagnon. Sa jeune sœur n'est-elle pas plus belle qu'elle? S'il te plaît, prends-la à sa place. »
and her father says, “I certainly said that you surely hated her, and I give her to your companion; is her younger sister not better than she? Please let her be to you instead of her.”
3 Samson leur dit: « Cette fois, je serai irréprochable à l'égard des Philistins quand je leur ferai du mal. »
And Samson says of them, “I am more innocent this time than the Philistines, though I am doing evil with them.”
4 Samson alla attraper trois cents renards, prit des torches, tourna la queue contre la queue et mit une torche au milieu entre deux queues.
And Samson goes and catches three hundred foxes, and takes torches, and turns tail to tail, and puts a torch between the two tails, in the midst,
5 Quand il eut mis le feu aux torches, il les lança dans le blé sur pied des Philistins, et brûla tant les chocs que le blé sur pied, et aussi les oliviers.
and kindles fire in the torches, and sends [them] out into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burns [it] from heap even to standing grain, even to vineyard [and] olive-yard.
6 Alors les Philistins dirent: « Qui a fait cela? » Ils dirent: « Samson, le gendre du Timnite, car il a pris sa femme et l'a donnée à son compagnon. » Les Philistins montèrent, et la brûlèrent au feu, elle et son père.
And the Philistines say, “Who has done this?” And they say, “Samson, son-in-law of the Timnite, because he has taken away his wife, and gives her to his companion”; and the Philistines go up, and burn her and her father with fire.
7 Samson leur dit: « Si vous vous comportez ainsi, je me vengerai de vous, et après cela je cesserai. »
And Samson says to them, “Though you do thus, nevertheless I am avenged on you, and afterward I cease!”
8 Il les frappa de la hanche et de la cuisse avec un grand coup de massue; puis il descendit et habita dans la caverne du rocher d'Etam.
And he strikes them hip and thigh [with] a great striking, and goes down and dwells in the cleft of the rock of Etam.
9 Et les Philistins montèrent, campèrent en Juda, et se répandirent à Léhi.
And the Philistines go up, and encamp in Judah, and are spread out in Lehi,
10 Les hommes de Juda dirent: « Pourquoi êtes-vous venus contre nous? » Ils ont dit: « Nous sommes montés pour lier Samson, pour lui faire ce qu'il nous a fait. »
and the men of Judah say, “Why have you come up against us?” And they say, “We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he has done to us.”
11 Et trois mille hommes de Juda descendirent à la grotte du rocher d'Etam et dirent à Samson: « Ne sais-tu pas que les Philistins nous dominent? Qu'est-ce donc que tu nous as fait? » Il leur a dit: « Ce qu'ils m'ont fait, je le leur ai fait. »
And three thousand men of Judah go down to the cleft of the rock of Etam, and say to Samson, “Have you now known that the Philistines are rulers over us? And what [is] this you have done to us?” And he says to them, “As they did to me, so I did to them.”
12 Ils lui dirent: « Nous sommes descendus pour te lier, afin de te livrer entre les mains des Philistins. » Samson leur a dit: « Jurez-moi que vous ne m'attaquerez pas vous-mêmes. »
And they say to him, “We have come down to bind you—to give you into the hand of the Philistines.” And Samson says to them, “Swear to me, lest you fall on me yourselves.”
13 Ils lui dirent: « Non, mais nous te lierons solidement et nous te livrerons entre leurs mains; mais sûrement nous ne te tuerons pas. » Ils le lièrent avec deux cordes neuves, et le firent remonter du rocher.
And they speak to him, saying, “No, but we certainly bind you, and have given you into their hand, and we certainly do not put you to death”; and they bind him with two thick bands, new ones, and bring him up from the rock.
14 Lorsqu'il arriva à Léhi, les Philistins poussèrent des cris de joie en le rencontrant. Alors l'Esprit de Yahvé vint puissamment sur lui, et les cordes qui étaient à ses bras devinrent comme du lin brûlé au feu, et ses ceintures tombèrent de ses mains.
He has come to Lehi—and the Philistines have shouted at meeting him—and the Spirit of YHWH prospers over him, and the thick bands which [are] on his arms are as flax which they burn with fire, and his bands are melted from off his hands,
15 Il trouva une mâchoire fraîche d'un âne, étendit la main, la prit et en frappa mille hommes.
and he finds a fresh jawbone of a donkey, and puts forth his hand and takes it, and strikes down one thousand men with it.
16 Samson dit: « Avec la mâchoire d'un âne, des monceaux de monceaux, avec la mâchoire d'un âne, j'ai frappé mille hommes. »
And Samson says, “With the jawbone of a donkey, heap on heaps—I have struck down one thousand men with the jawbone of a donkey!”
17 Quand il eut fini de parler, il jeta la mâchoire de sa main; et ce lieu fut appelé Ramath Léhi.
And it comes to pass, when he finishes speaking, that he casts away the jawbone out of his hand, and calls that place Ramath-Lehi;
18 Il avait très soif, et il invoqua Yahvé en disant: « Tu as accordé cette grande délivrance par la main de ton serviteur; et maintenant, vais-je mourir de soif, et tomber entre les mains des incirconcis? »
and he thirsts exceedingly, and calls to YHWH, and says, “You have given this great salvation by the hand of Your servant; and now, I die with thirst, and have fallen into the hand of the uncircumcised.”
19 Mais Dieu fendit le creux qui est à Léhi, et il en sortit de l'eau. Quand il eut bu, son esprit revint, et il revint à la vie. C'est pourquoi on l'a appelé jusqu'à ce jour En Hakkore, qui est à Léhi.
And God cleaves the hollow place which [is] in Lehi, and waters come out of it, and he drinks, and his spirit comes back, and he revives; therefore [one] has called its name “The fountain of him who is calling,” which [is] in Lehi to this day.
20 Il jugea Israël pendant vingt ans, au temps des Philistins.
And he judges Israel in the days of the Philistines [for] twenty years.
