Josué 3
1 Josué se leva de bon matin; ils partirent de Shittim et arrivèrent au Jourdain, lui et tous les enfants d'Israël. Ils campèrent là avant de traverser.
Therfor Josue roos bi nyyt, and mouede tentis; and thei yeden out of Sechym, and camen to Jordan, he and alle the sones of Israel, and dwelliden there thre daies.
2 Au bout de trois jours, les officiers passèrent au milieu du camp;
And whanne tho daies weren passid, crieris yeden thorouy the myddis of tentis,
3 et ils donnèrent cet ordre au peuple: « Lorsque vous verrez l'arche de l'alliance de Yahvé, votre Dieu, et les prêtres lévitiques qui la portent, quittez votre place et suivez-la.
and bigunnen to crie, Whanne ye seen the arke of boond of pees of youre Lord God, and the preestis of the generacioun of Leuy berynge it, also rise ye, and sue the biforgoeris;
4 Mais il y aura entre vous et elle un espace d'environ deux mille coudées - ne vous en approchez pas - afin que vous sachiez par quel chemin vous devez passer, car vous n'avez jamais passé par là auparavant. »
and a space of twey thousynde cubitis be bitwixe you and the arke, that ye moun se fer, and knowe bi what weie ye schulen entre, for ye `yeden not bifore bi it; and be ye war, that ye neiye not to the arke.
5 Josué dit au peuple: « Sanctifiez-vous, car demain Yahvé fera des prodiges au milieu de vous. »
And Josue seide to the puple, Be ye halewid, for to morew the Lord schal make merueilis among you.
6 Josué parla aux prêtres, et dit: « Portez l'arche de l'alliance, et passez devant le peuple. » Ils prirent l'arche de l'alliance, et passèrent devant le peuple.
And Josue seide to the preestis, Take ye the arke of the boond of pees `of the Lord, and go ye bifor the puple. Whiche filliden the heestis, and tooken the arke, and yeden bifor hem.
7 Yahvé dit à Josué: « Aujourd'hui, je vais commencer à te magnifier aux yeux de tout Israël, afin qu'ils sachent que, comme j'ai été avec Moïse, je serai avec toi.
And the Lord seide to Josue, To dai Y schal bigynne to enhaunse thee bifor al Israel, that thei wite, that as Y was with Moises, so Y am also with thee.
8 Tu donneras cet ordre aux prêtres qui portent l'arche de l'alliance: « Quand vous arriverez au bord des eaux du Jourdain, vous vous arrêterez dans le Jourdain ».
Forsothe comaunde thou to preestis, that beren the arke of bond of pees, and seie thou to hem, Whanne ye han entrid in to a part of the watir of Jordan, stonde ye therynne.
9 Josué dit aux enfants d'Israël: « Venez ici, et écoutez les paroles de l'Éternel, votre Dieu. »
And Josue seide to the sones of Israel, Neiye ye hidur, and here ye the word of youre Lord God.
10 Josué dit: « Vous saurez ainsi que le Dieu vivant est au milieu de vous et qu'il chassera devant vous, sans faute, le Cananéen, le Héthien, le Hévien, le Phérézien, le Guirgasien, l'Amoréen et le Jébusien.
And eft he seide, In this ye schulen wite that the Lord God lyuynge is in the myddis of you; and he schal distrye in youre siyt Cananey, Ethei, Euey, and Feresei, and Gergesei, and Jebusei, and Amorrei.
11 Voici, l'arche de l'alliance de l'Éternel de toute la terre passe devant vous dans le Jourdain.
Lo! the arke of boond of pees of the Lord of al erthe schal go bifor you thorouy Jordan.
12 Maintenant, prenez douze hommes parmi les tribus d'Israël, un homme pour chaque tribu.
Make ye redi twelue men of the twelue lynagis of Israel, bi ech lynage o man.
13 Lorsque la plante des pieds des prêtres qui portent l'arche de l'Éternel, le Seigneur de toute la terre, reposera dans les eaux du Jourdain, les eaux du Jourdain seront coupées. Les eaux qui descendent d'en haut se tiendront en un seul amas. »
And whanne the preestis, that beren the arke of boond of pees of the Lord God of al erthe, han set the steppis of her feet in the watris of Jordan, the watris that ben lowere schulen renne doun, and schulen faile; forsothe the watris that comen fro aboue schulen stonde togidere in o gobet.
14 Lorsque le peuple quitta ses tentes pour passer le Jourdain, les sacrificateurs qui portaient l'arche de l'alliance étant devant le peuple,
Therfor the puple yede out of her tabernaclis to passe Jordan; and the preestis that baren the arke of boond of pees yeden bifor the puple.
15 et lorsque ceux qui portaient l'arche furent arrivés au Jourdain, et que les pieds des sacrificateurs qui portaient l'arche eurent trempé dans le bord de l'eau (car le Jourdain déborde sur toutes ses rives pendant toute la moisson),
And whanne the preestis entriden in to Jordan, and her feet weren dippid in the part of watir; forsothe Jordan `hadde fillid the brynkis of his trow in the tyme of `ripe corn;
16 les eaux qui descendaient d'en haut s'arrêtèrent et s'élevèrent en un seul monceau à une grande distance, à Adam, ville voisine de Zarethan; et celles qui descendaient vers la mer de la plaine, la mer Salée, furent entièrement coupées. Et le peuple passa près de Jéricho.
the watris yeden doun, and stoden in o place, and wexiden grete at the licnesse of an hil, and apperiden fer fro the citee that was clepid Edom, `til to the place of Sarthan; sotheli the watris that weren lowere yeden doun in to the see of wildirnesse, which is now clepid the deed see, `til the watris failiden outirli.
17 Les prêtres qui portaient l'arche de l'alliance de Yahvé s'arrêtèrent à sec au milieu du Jourdain, et tout Israël traversa à sec, jusqu'à ce que toute la nation ait entièrement passé le Jourdain.
Forsothe the puple yede thorouy Jordan; and the preestis, that baren the arke of the boond of pees of the Lord, stoden gird on the drie erthe in the myddis of Jordan, and al the puple passide thorouy the drie trow.
