1 « Je vous ai dit ces choses afin que vous ne soyez pas induits en erreur.
THESE things have I spoken, that ye might not be stumbled.
2 On vous chassera des synagogues. Oui, le temps vient où celui qui vous tuera pensera qu'il offre un service à Dieu.
They will put you out of their synagogues: yea, the hour is coming, that every one who killeth you will think he offers God a sacred service.
3 Ils feront ces choses parce qu'ils n'ont pas connu le Père ni moi.
And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
4 Mais je vous ai dit ces choses, afin que, le moment venu, vous vous souveniez que je vous en ai parlé. Je ne vous ai pas dit ces choses dès le commencement, parce que j'étais avec vous.
But these things have I spoken to you, that when the hour is come, ye may remember the same for I had told you. But these things I told you not at the beginning, because I was with you.
5 Mais maintenant, je vais vers celui qui m'a envoyé, et aucun de vous ne me demande: « Où vas-tu? »
But now I am going away to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither art thou going?
6 Mais parce que je vous ai dit ces choses, la tristesse a rempli votre cœur.
But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
7 Mais je vous dis la vérité: il est avantageux pour vous que je m'en aille, car si je ne m'en vais pas, le conseiller ne viendra pas vers vous. Mais si je pars, je vous l'enverrai.
Yet I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I went not away, the Comforter would not come to you; but if I go, I will send him unto you.
8 Quand il sera venu, il convaincra le monde au sujet du péché, de la justice et du jugement;
And when he cometh, he will convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 au sujet du péché, parce qu'ils ne croient pas en moi;
of sin first, because they believe not in me;
10 au sujet de la justice, parce que je vais vers mon Père, et que vous ne me verrez plus;
then of righteousness, because I am going to the Father, so ye see me no more;
11 au sujet du jugement, parce que le prince de ce monde a été jugé.
and of judgment, because the ruler of this world hath sentence pronounced on him.
12 J'ai encore beaucoup de choses à vous dire, mais vous ne pouvez pas les supporter maintenant.
I have many things to say to you, but ye cannot bear them just now.
13 Mais quand il sera venu, l'Esprit de vérité, il vous conduira dans toute la vérité; car il ne parlera pas de lui-même, mais il dira tout ce qu'il aura entendu. Il vous annoncera les choses qui doivent arriver.
But when he is come, the Spirit of truth, he will conduct you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever things he shall hear, he shall speak: and he will declare to you the things that shall come hereafter.
14 Il me glorifiera, car il prendra de ce qui m'appartient et vous l'annoncera.
He shall glorify me: for he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15 Tout ce que le Père a est à moi; c'est pourquoi j'ai dit qu'il prend de ce qui est à moi et vous l'annoncera.
All things whatsoever the Father hath are mine: therefore I said, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
16 « Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez pas. Encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez. »
A little while longer, and ye shall not see me: and again a little while, and ye shall see me, because I am going to the Father.
17 Quelques-uns de ses disciples se dirent donc les uns aux autres: « Qu'est-ce que cela signifie qu'il nous dit: « Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez pas; et encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez; » et: « Parce que je vais au Père »? »
Then said some of the disciples unto each other, What is this which he saith to us, A little while longer, and ye shall not see me: and again a little while, and ye shall see me: and this, because I am going to the Father?
18 Ils dirent donc: « Qu'est-ce que cela signifie qu'il dit: « Un peu de temps »? Nous ne savons pas ce qu'il dit. »
They said therefore, What is this which he saith, This little while? we know not what he means.
19 Jésus comprit qu'ils voulaient l'interroger, et il leur dit: « Vous vous interrogez entre vous sur ce que j'ai dit: « Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez pas; puis encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez ».
Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Are ye questioning among yourselves concerning this declaration, which I spake, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again a little while, and ye shall see me?
20 En vérité, je vous le dis, vous pleurerez et vous vous lamenterez, mais le monde se réjouira. Vous serez dans la tristesse, mais votre tristesse se transformera en joie.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be very sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21 La femme, lorsqu'elle accouche, est triste, car son heure est venue. Mais quand elle a mis au monde l'enfant, elle ne se souvient plus de l'angoisse, à cause de la joie que procure la naissance d'un être humain dans le monde.
A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but when the little son is born, she no more remembers the anguish, for joy that a man is brought into the world.
22 C'est pourquoi vous êtes maintenant dans la tristesse, mais je vous reverrai, et votre cœur se réjouira, et personne ne vous enlèvera votre joie.
And ye therefore have indeed at present sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall be made glad, and your joy no man taketh from you.
23 « En ce jour-là, vous ne me poserez plus de questions. Je vous le dis en vérité, tout ce que vous demanderez au Père en mon nom, il vous le donnera.
And in that hour ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, That whatsoever things ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give you.
24 Jusqu'à présent, vous n'avez rien demandé en mon nom. Demandez, et vous recevrez, afin que votre joie soit complète.
Hitherto ye have asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be complete.
25 « Je vous ai dit ces choses en figures de rhétorique. Mais le temps vient où je ne vous parlerai plus en paroles, mais où je vous parlerai clairement du Père.
These things have I spoken to you in parables: but the hour is coming when I will no more speak to you in parables, but will plainly inform you respecting the Father.
26 En ce jour-là, vous demanderez en mon nom; et je ne vous dis pas que je prierai le Père pour vous,
In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I do not say to you, I will entreat the Father for you:
27 car le Père lui-même vous aime, parce que vous m'avez aimé et que vous avez cru que je venais de Dieu.
for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
28 Je suis venu du Père et je suis venu dans le monde. De nouveau, je quitte le monde et je vais au Père. »
I came out from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I am leaving the world, and going to the Father.
29 Ses disciples lui dirent: « Voici que tu parles clairement et sans figure de style.
His disciples said unto him, Lo! now thou speakest plainly, and speakest in no-wise proverbial.
30 Nous savons maintenant que tu sais tout, et que tu n'as pas besoin qu'on t'interroge. C'est pourquoi nous croyons que tu es venu de Dieu. »
Now we know that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any person should ask thee: by this we believe that thou hast come forth from God.
31 Jésus leur répondit: « Croyez-vous maintenant?
Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
32 Voici, le temps vient, et il est déjà venu, où vous serez dispersés, chacun chez soi, et où vous me laisserez seul. Mais je ne suis pas seul, car le Père est avec moi.
Behold, the hour is coming, yea, it is already come, that ye shall be dispersed, each after his own concerns, and shall leave me alone: though I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 Je vous ai dit ces choses, afin qu'en moi vous ayez la paix. Dans le monde, vous avez des difficultés; mais prenez courage! Moi, j'ai vaincu le monde ».
These things have I spoken to you, that ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good courage; I have overcome the world.
