1 Six jours avant la Pâque, Jésus se rendit à Béthanie, où était Lazare, qui était mort, et qu'il avait ressuscité des morts.
Then six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead.
2 Là, on lui fit un souper. Marthe servait, mais Lazare était du nombre de ceux qui étaient à table avec lui.
So they prepared a dinner for him there; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with him.
3 Marie prit une livre d'onguent de nard pur, très précieux, et elle oignit les pieds de Jésus; elle lui essuya les pieds avec ses cheveux. La maison fut remplie de l'odeur du parfum.
Mary, therefore, took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.
4 Alors Judas Iscariote, fils de Simon, l'un de ses disciples, qui allait le trahir, dit:
Then Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, who would betray him, said,
5 « Pourquoi ce parfum n'a-t-il pas été vendu trois cents deniers et donné aux pauvres? »
"Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?"
6 Il disait cela, non qu'il se souciât des pauvres, mais parce qu'il était voleur et qu'ayant la tirelire, il avait l'habitude de voler ce qu'on y mettait.
Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, used to steal what was put into it.
7 Mais Jésus dit: « Laisse-la tranquille. Elle a gardé cela pour le jour de ma sépulture.
But Jesus said, "Leave her alone, that she may keep this for the day of my burial.
8 Car vous avez toujours les pauvres avec vous, mais vous ne m'avez pas toujours, moi. »
For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me."
9 Une grande foule de Juifs apprit donc qu'il était là, et ils vinrent, non seulement à cause de Jésus, mais aussi pour voir Lazare, qu'il avait ressuscité des morts.
A large crowd therefore of the Judeans learned that he was there, and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 Mais les principaux sacrificateurs complotèrent de faire mourir aussi Lazare,
But the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus also,
11 parce que, à cause de lui, beaucoup de Juifs s'en allèrent et crurent en Jésus.
because on account of him many of the Jewish people went away and believed in Jesus.
12 Le lendemain, une grande foule était venue à la fête. Lorsqu'ils apprirent que Jésus venait à Jérusalem,
On the next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 ils prirent les branches des palmiers, sortirent à sa rencontre et s'écrièrent: « Hosanna! Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur, le roi d'Israël! »
they took the branches of the palm trees, and went out to meet him, and were shouting, "Hosanna. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel."
14 Jésus, ayant trouvé un jeune âne, s'assit dessus. Selon qu'il est écrit:
And Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat on it. As it is written,
15 « Ne crains pas, fille de Sion. Voici que ton Roi vient, assis sur un ânon. »
"Do not be afraid, daughter of Zion. Look, your King comes, sitting on a donkey's colt."
16 Ses disciples ne comprirent pas d'abord ces choses; mais, lorsque Jésus fut glorifié, ils se souvinrent que ces choses étaient écrites de lui, et qu'ils les avaient faites pour lui.
His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him.
17 La foule qui était avec lui, lorsqu'il appela Lazare hors du sépulcre et le ressuscita des morts, rendait donc témoignage à ce sujet.
The crowd therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, was testifying about it.
18 C'est pourquoi aussi la foule alla au-devant de lui, parce qu'elle avait appris qu'il avait fait ce miracle.
For this cause also the crowd went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign.
19 Les pharisiens se dirent alors entre eux: « Voyez comme vous ne faites rien. Voici que le monde est allé après lui. »
The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, "See how you accomplish nothing. Look, the whole world has gone after him."
20 Or, il y avait quelques Grecs parmi ceux qui montaient se prosterner à la fête.
Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the feast.
21 Ils vinrent donc trouver Philippe, qui était de Bethsaïda en Galilée, et lui demandèrent: « Seigneur, nous voulons voir Jésus. »
These, therefore, came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, "Sir, we want to see Jesus."
22 Philippe vint le dire à André; et André vint à son tour avec Philippe, et ils le dirent à Jésus.
Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn, Andrew came with Philip, and they told Jesus.
23 Jésus leur répondit: « Le temps est venu où le Fils de l'homme sera glorifié.
And Jesus answered them, "The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24 Je vous le dis en vérité, si le grain de blé ne tombe en terre et ne meurt, il reste seul. Mais s'il meurt, il porte beaucoup de fruit.
Truly, truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.
25 Celui qui aime sa vie la perdra. Celui qui hait sa vie dans ce monde la gardera pour la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it to everlasting life. (aiōnios g166)
26 Si quelqu'un me sert, qu'il me suive. Là où je suis, là aussi sera mon serviteur. Si quelqu'un me sert, le Père l'honorera.
If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there will my servant also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
27 « Maintenant mon âme est troublée. Que dirai-je? « Père, sauve-moi de ce temps »? Mais c'est pour cette cause que je suis arrivé à ce moment.
"Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say? 'Father, save me from this hour?' But for this cause I came to this hour.
28 Père, glorifie ton nom! » Alors une voix sortit du ciel, disant: « Je l'ai glorifié et je le glorifierai encore. »
Father, glorify your name." Then there came a voice out of the sky, saying, "I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again."
29 C'est pourquoi la foule qui se tenait là et qui l'entendait disait que c'était un tonnerre. D'autres disaient: « Un ange lui a parlé. »
The crowd therefore, who stood by and heard it, said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to him."
30 Jésus répondit: « Cette voix n'est pas venue à cause de moi, mais à cause de vous.
Jesus answered, "This voice hasn't come for my sake, but for your sakes.
31 Maintenant, c'est le jugement de ce monde. Maintenant, le prince de ce monde sera chassé.
Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out.
32 Et moi, si je suis élevé de la terre, j'attirerai à moi tous les peuples. »
And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw everyone to myself."
33 Mais il disait cela en indiquant par quel genre de mort il devait mourir.
But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
34 La foule lui répondit: « Nous avons appris par la loi que le Christ demeure éternellement. Comment dis-tu: « Il faut que le Fils de l'homme soit élevé »? Qui est ce Fils de l'homme? » (aiōn g165)
The crowd answered him, "We have heard out of the law that the Christ remains forever. Then how can you say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up?' Who is this Son of Man?" (aiōn g165)
35 Jésus leur dit donc: « La lumière est encore pour un peu de temps avec vous. Marchez pendant que vous avez la lumière, afin que les ténèbres ne vous surprennent pas. Celui qui marche dans les ténèbres ne sait pas où il va.
Jesus therefore said to them, "Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness does not overtake you. He who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.
36 Pendant que vous avez la lumière, croyez en la lumière, afin de devenir des enfants de lumière. » Jésus dit ces choses, puis il s'en alla et se cacha d'eux.
While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become children of light." Jesus said these things, and he departed and hid himself from them.
37 Mais, bien qu'il eût fait devant eux tant de miracles, ils ne crurent pas en lui,
But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they did not believe in him,
38 afin que s'accomplît la parole qu'Ésaïe, le prophète, avait prononcée: « Seigneur, qui a cru à notre rapport? A qui le bras du Seigneur a-t-il été révélé? »
that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, "Lord, who has believed our report, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"
39 C'est pour cela qu'ils ne pouvaient pas croire, car Ésaïe a encore dit:
For this cause they could not believe, for Isaiah said again,
40 « Il a aveuglé leurs yeux et il a endurci leur cœur, de peur qu'ils ne voient avec leurs yeux, et perçoivent avec leur cœur, et tournerait, et je les guérirais. »
He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them.
41 Ésaïe a dit ces choses en voyant sa gloire, et il a parlé de lui.
Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory, and spoke of him.
42 Cependant, beaucoup de chefs croyaient en lui; mais, à cause des pharisiens, ils ne le confessaient pas, afin de ne pas être exclus de la synagogue,
Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue,
43 car ils aimaient mieux les louanges des hommes que celles de Dieu.
for they loved praise from people more than praise from God.
44 Jésus s'écria: « Celui qui croit en moi ne croit pas en moi, mais en celui qui m'a envoyé.
Then Jesus shouted out and said, "Whoever believes in me, believes not in me, but in him who sent me.
45 Celui qui me voit voit celui qui m'a envoyé.
And he who sees me sees him who sent me.
46 Je suis venu comme une lumière dans le monde, afin que quiconque croit en moi ne demeure pas dans les ténèbres.
I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness.
47 Si quelqu'un écoute mes paroles et ne croit pas, je ne le juge pas. Car je suis venu non pas pour juger le monde, mais pour sauver le monde.
And if anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 Celui qui me rejette, et qui ne reçoit pas mes paroles, a quelqu'un qui le juge. La parole que j'ai prononcée le jugera au dernier jour.
He who rejects me, and does not accept my words, has one who judges him. The word that I spoke will judge him on the last day.
49 Car je n'ai pas parlé de moi-même, mais le Père qui m'a envoyé m'a donné un commandement, celui de savoir ce que je dois dire et ce que je dois dire.
For I spoke not from myself, but the Father who sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
