Jean 1
1 Au commencement était la Parole, et la Parole était avec Dieu, et la Parole était Dieu.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 Le même était au commencement avec Dieu.
He Himself existed in the beginning with God.
3 Toutes choses ont été faites par elle. Sans elle, rien n'a été fait de ce qui a été fait.
All things came to be by Him; that is, apart from Him not even one thing that has come into being came to be.
4 En lui était la vie, et la vie était la lumière des hommes.
In Him was life, and the Life was the Light of mankind.
5 La lumière brille dans les ténèbres, et les ténèbres ne l'ont pas vaincue.
Now the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 Il vint un homme envoyé de Dieu, dont le nom était Jean.
There was a man, sent from God, whose name was John.
7 Il est venu comme témoin, afin de rendre témoignage à la lumière, pour que tous croient par lui.
This man came as a witness to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him.
8 Il n'était pas la lumière, mais il a été envoyé pour rendre témoignage à la lumière.
He himself was not the Light but was to testify about the Light—
9 La vraie lumière, qui éclaire tout le monde, venait dans le monde.
the true Light which illumines everyone who comes into the world.
10 Il était dans le monde, et le monde a été fait par lui, et le monde ne l'a pas reconnu.
He was in the world, the world that came into being by Him, yet the world did not know Him.
11 Il est venu vers les siens, et les siens ne l'ont pas reçu.
He came to His own things, yet His own people did not receive Him.
12 Mais à tous ceux qui l'ont reçu, il a donné le droit de devenir enfants de Dieu, à ceux qui croient en son nom,
But, as many as did receive Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe into His name:
13 lesquels sont nés, non du sang, ni de la volonté de la chair, ni de la volonté de l'homme, mais de Dieu.
who were begotten, not by blood, nor by the desire of the flesh, nor by the will of a man, but by God.
14 Le Verbe s'est fait chair et a vécu parmi nous. Nous avons vu sa gloire, une gloire comme celle du Fils unique du Père, plein de grâce et de vérité.
So the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we observed His glory, glory of an Only-begotten, from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 Jean rendit témoignage de lui. Il s'est écrié: « C'est celui dont j'ai dit: Celui qui vient après moi m'a surpassé, car il était avant moi. »
John testified about Him and called out saying: “This is He of whom I said, ‘The One coming after me is now ahead of me, because He existed before I did.’”
16 De sa plénitude, nous avons tous reçu grâce sur grâce.
Now we have all received from His fullness, yes, grace upon grace.
17 Car la loi a été donnée par Moïse. La grâce et la vérité ont été réalisées par Jésus-Christ.
Because the Law was given through Moses; the Grace and the Truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 En aucun temps, personne n'a vu Dieu. Le Fils unique, qui est dans le sein du Père, l'a déclaré.
No one has ever seen God. The Only-begotten Son, who exists in the bosom of the Father, He has interpreted Him.
19 Tel est le témoignage de Jean, lorsque les Juifs envoyèrent de Jérusalem des prêtres et des lévites pour lui demander: « Qui es-tu? »
Now this is John's testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
20 Il a déclaré, et n'a pas nié, mais il a déclaré: « Je ne suis pas le Christ. »
He confessed, he did not deny but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
21 Ils lui demandèrent: « Qui donc? Es-tu Élie? » Il a dit: « Je ne le suis pas. » « Vous êtes le prophète? » Il a répondu: « Non. »
So they asked him, “What then, are you Elijah?” And he says, “I am not.” “Are you ‘the Prophet’?” “No,” he answered.
22 Ils lui dirent donc: « Qui es-tu? Donne-nous une réponse à rapporter à ceux qui nous ont envoyés. Que dis-tu de toi-même? »
So they said to him: “Who are you?—so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 Il dit: « Je suis la voix de celui qui crie dans le désert: « Aplanissez le chemin du Seigneur », comme l'a dit le prophète Ésaïe. »
He said, “I am ‘the voice of one calling out: “Make the Lord's road straight in the wilderness,”’ just as the prophet Isaiah said.”
24 Ceux qui avaient été envoyés étaient des pharisiens.
Now those who had been sent were from the Pharisees.
25 Ils lui demandèrent: « Pourquoi donc baptises-tu, si tu n'es ni le Christ, ni Élie, ni le prophète? »
So they asked him saying, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor ‘the Prophet’?”
26 Jean leur répondit: « Moi, je baptise dans l'eau, mais il y a parmi vous quelqu'un que vous ne connaissez pas.
John answered them saying: “I baptize with water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.
27 C'est lui qui vient après moi, qui est préféré à moi, et dont je ne suis pas digne de délier la courroie de la sandale. »
He is the One coming after me who is now ahead of me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.”
28 Ces choses se passaient à Béthanie, de l'autre côté du Jourdain, où Jean baptisait.
These things happened in Bithabara, across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 Le lendemain, il vit Jésus venir à lui, et il dit: « Voici l'Agneau de Dieu, qui enlève le péché du monde!
The next day John sees Jesus coming toward him and says: “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
30 C'est lui dont j'ai dit: « Après moi vient un homme qui est préféré à moi, car il était avant moi.
This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is now ahead of me, because He existed before I did.’
31 Je ne l'ai pas connu, mais c'est pour cela que je suis venu baptiser dans l'eau, afin qu'il soit révélé à Israël. »
I did not know Him; but so that He should be revealed to Israel, that is why I came baptizing with water.”
32 Jean rendit ce témoignage: « J'ai vu l'Esprit descendre du ciel comme une colombe, et il est resté sur lui.
And John testified saying: “I observed the Spirit coming down like a dove out of heaven, and He rested upon Him.
33 Je ne l'ai pas reconnu, mais celui qui m'a envoyé baptiser dans l'eau m'a dit: « Celui sur qui tu verras l'Esprit descendre et rester, c'est celui qui baptise dans l'Esprit Saint.
Now I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, ‘The One upon whom you see the Spirit coming down and resting—this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
34 J'ai vu et j'ai témoigné que c'est le Fils de Dieu. »
So I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
35 Le lendemain, Jean se tenait encore debout avec deux de ses disciples,
Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples.
36 et, regardant Jésus qui marchait, il dit: « Voici l'Agneau de Dieu. »
And seeing Jesus walking by, he says, “Look, the Lamb of God!”
37 Les deux disciples l'entendirent parler, et ils suivirent Jésus.
The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 Jésus se retourna, les vit qui le suivaient, et leur dit: « Que cherchez-vous? » Ils lui dirent: « Rabbi » (ce qui veut dire, en étant interprété, Maître), « où demeures-tu? »
So turning and observing them following Jesus says to them, “What do you want?” So they said to Him, “Rabbi” (which translated means ‘Teacher’), “where are You staying?”
39 Il leur dit: « Venez et voyez. » Ils sont venus et ont vu où il se trouvait, et ils sont restés avec lui ce jour-là. C'était environ la dixième heure.
He says to them, “Come and see.” So they went and saw where He was staying, and stayed with Him that day—it was about the tenth hour.
40 L'un de ceux qui avaient entendu Jean et qui le suivirent était André, frère de Simon Pierre.
One of the two who heard John and followed Him was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
41 Il trouva d'abord son propre frère, Simon, et lui dit: « Nous avons trouvé le Messie! » (c'est-à-dire, selon l'interprétation, le Christ).
He first finds his own brother Simon and says to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated ‘Christ’).
42 Il l'amena à Jésus. Jésus le regarda et dit: « Tu es Simon, fils de Jonas. On t'appellera Céphas » (ce qui est, par interprétation, Pierre).
And he led him to Jesus. Looking at him Jesus said, “You are Simon, the son of Jonah; you will be called Cephas” (which is translated ‘Stone’).
43 Le lendemain, décidé à aller en Galilée, il trouva Philippe. Jésus lui dit: « Suis-moi. »
The next day He decided to go to Galilee, so He finds Philip and says to him, “Follow me.”
44 Or, Philippe était de Bethsaïda, la ville d'André et de Pierre.
(Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the hometown of Andrew and Peter.)
45 Philippe, ayant trouvé Nathanaël, lui dit: « Nous avons trouvé celui dont Moïse, dans la loi, et aussi les prophètes, ont parlé: Jésus de Nazareth, fils de Joseph. »
Philip finds Nathanael and says to him, “We have found the One of whom Moses in the Law—and also the prophets—wrote: Jesus the son of Joseph, from Natsareth.”
46 Nathanaël lui dit: « Peut-il sortir quelque chose de bon de Nazareth? » Philippe lui dit: « Viens et vois. »
So Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Natsareth?” Philip says to him, “Come and see!”
47 Jésus, voyant Nathanaël s'approcher de lui, dit à son sujet: « Voici vraiment un Israélite en qui il n'y a aucune tromperie! »
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him and says about him, “There, a genuine Israelite in whom there is no deceit!”
48 Nathanaël lui dit: « Comment me connais-tu? » Jésus lui répondit: « Avant que Philippe ne t'appelle, quand tu étais sous le figuier, je t'ai vu. »
Nathanael says to Him, “From where do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, while you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Nathanaël lui répondit: « Rabbi, tu es le Fils de Dieu! Tu es le Roi d'Israël! »
In answer Nathanael says to Him: “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
50 Jésus lui répondit: « Parce que je t'ai dit: « Je t'ai vu sous le figuier », crois-tu? Tu verras des choses plus grandes que celles-ci! »
Jesus answered and said to him: “You believe because I said that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater than these.”
51 Il lui dit: « Très certainement, je vous le dis à tous, vous verrez désormais le ciel ouvert, et les anges de Dieu monter et descendre sur le Fils de l'homme. »
And He says to him, “I tell you (pl) most assuredly, later on you will see the heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of the Man.”
