Job 8
1 Et Bildad, le Shuhite, prit la parole,
Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said:
2 « Jusqu'à quand direz-vous ces choses? Les paroles de ta bouche seront-elles un vent puissant?
How long wilt thou speak such things? How long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?
3 Dieu pervertit-il la justice? Ou le Tout-Puissant pervertit-il la justice?
Will God pervert judgment? Or will the Almighty pervert justice?
4 Si vos enfants ont péché contre lui, il les a livrés entre les mains de leur désobéissance.
As thy children sinned against him, He hath given them up to their transgression.
5 Si vous voulez chercher Dieu avec diligence, faites vos supplications au Tout-Puissant.
But if thou wilt seek early to God, And make thy supplication to the Almighty, —
6 Si tu étais pur et droit, sûrement maintenant il se réveillerait pour vous, et faire prospérer la demeure de ta justice.
If thou wilt be pure and upright, Surely he will yet arise for thee, And prosper thy righteous habitation;
7 Bien que tes débuts aient été modestes, mais votre fin dernière augmenterait considérablement.
So that thy beginning shall be small, And thy latter end very great.
8 « Veuillez vous renseigner sur les générations passées. Découvrez l'apprentissage de leurs pères.
For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, And mark what hath been searched out by their fathers;
9 (Car nous ne sommes que d'hier, et nous ne savons rien, car nos jours sur terre ne sont qu'une ombre).
(For we are of yesterday and know nothing, Since our days upon the earth are but a shadow; )
10 Ne vous apprendront-ils pas, ne vous diront-ils pas, et de prononcer des paroles venant de leur cœur?
Will not they instruct thee, and tell thee, And utter words from their understanding?
11 « Le papyrus peut-il pousser sans bourbe? Les joncs peuvent-ils pousser sans eau?
“Can the paper-reed grow up without mire? Can the bulrush grow without water?
12 Pendant qu'il est encore dans sa verdure, ne le coupez pas, il se fane avant tout autre roseau.
While it is yet in its greenness, and is not cut down, It withereth before any other herb.
13 Il en est de même des chemins de tous ceux qui oublient Dieu. L'espoir de l'homme impie périra,
Such is the fate of all who forget God; So perisheth the hope of the ungodly.
14 dont la confiance se brisera, dont la confiance est une toile d'araignée.
His confidence shall come to nought, And his trust shall prove a spider's web.
15 Il s'appuie sur sa maison, mais elle ne tient pas debout. Il s'y accrochera, mais cela ne durera pas.
He shall lean upon his house, and it shall not stand; He shall lay fast hold on it, but it shall not endure.
16 Il est vert devant le soleil. Ses pousses sortent le long de son jardin.
He is in full green before the sun, And his branches shoot forth over his garden;
17 Ses racines s'enroulent autour de l'amas de pierres. Il voit la place des pierres.
His roots are entwined about the heap, And he seeth the place of stones;
18 S'il est détruit de son lieu, alors il le reniera, en disant: « Je ne t'ai pas vu.
When he shall be destroyed from his place, It shall deny him, saying, 'I never saw thee.'
19 Voici la joie de son chemin. De la terre, d'autres jailliront.
Lo! such is the joy of his course! And others shall spring up from his place”
20 « Voici, Dieu ne rejette pas un homme irréprochable, Il ne soutiendra pas non plus les malfaiteurs.
Behold, God will not cast away an upright man; Nor will he help the evil-doers.
21 Il remplira encore ta bouche de rires, tes lèvres en criant.
While he filleth thy mouth with laughter, And thy lips with gladness,
22 Ceux qui te haïssent seront vêtus de honte. La tente des méchants ne sera plus. »
They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame, And the dwelling-place of the wicked shall come to nought.
