Job 4
1 Alors Éliphaz, le Thémanite, prit la parole,
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and sayde,
2 « Si quelqu'un s'aventure à parler avec toi, seras-tu affligé? Mais qui peut se retenir de parler?
If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieued? but who can withholde himselfe from speaking?
3 Voici, vous avez instruit beaucoup de gens, vous avez renforcé les mains faibles.
Behold, thou hast taught many, and hast strengthened the wearie hands.
4 Tes paroles ont soutenu celui qui tombait, tu as raffermi les genoux faibles.
Thy wordes haue confirmed him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the weake knees.
5 Mais maintenant, cela t'est arrivé, et tu t'es évanoui. Il vous touche, et vous êtes troublé.
But now it is come vpon thee, and thou art grieued: it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
6 Votre piété n'est-elle pas votre confiance? L'intégrité de vos voies n'est-elle pas votre espoir?
Is not this thy feare, thy confidence, thy pacience, and the vprightnesse of thy wayes?
7 « Souviens-toi maintenant de celui qui a péri, étant innocent? Ou bien où ont été coupés les montants?
Remember, I pray thee: who euer perished, being an innocent? or where were the vpright destroyed?
8 Selon ce que j'ai vu, ceux qui labourent l'iniquité qui sèment le trouble, récoltent la même chose.
As I haue seene, they that plow iniquitie, and sowe wickednesse, reape the same.
9 Par le souffle de Dieu, ils périssent. Ils sont consumés par le souffle de sa colère.
With the blast of God they perish, and with the breath of his nostrels are they cosumed.
10 Le rugissement du lion, et la voix du lion féroce, les dents des jeunes lions, sont cassées.
The roaring of the Lion, and the voyce of the Lionesse, and the teeth of the Lions whelpes are broken.
11 Le vieux lion périt par manque de proie. Les petits de la lionne sont dispersés.
The Lyon perisheth for lacke of pray, and the Lyons whelpes are scattered abroade.
12 « Or, une chose m'a été rapportée en secret. Mon oreille en a reçu un murmure.
But a thing was brought to me secretly, and mine eare hath receiued a litle thereof.
13 Dans les pensées des visions de la nuit, quand le sommeil profond tombe sur les hommes,
In the thoughtes of ye visions of the night, when sleepe falleth on men,
14 La peur m'a saisi, et le tremblement, qui a fait trembler tous mes os.
Feare came vpon me, and dread which made all my bones to tremble.
15 Alors un esprit passa devant ma face. Les poils de ma chair se sont dressés.
And the wind passed before me, and made the heares of my flesh to stande vp.
16 Elle était immobile, mais je ne pouvais pas discerner son apparence. Une forme était devant mes yeux. Silence, puis j'ai entendu une voix, disant,
Then stoode one, and I knewe not his face: an image was before mine eyes, and in silence heard I a voyce, saying,
17 « Un homme mortel serait-il plus juste que Dieu? Un homme peut-il être plus pur que son créateur?
Shall man be more iust then God? or shall a man be more pure then his maker?
18 Voici, il ne fait pas confiance à ses serviteurs. Il charge ses anges d'erreurs.
Beholde, he founde no stedfastnesse in his Seruants, and laid follie vpon his Angels.
19 Combien plus ceux qui habitent des maisons d'argile, dont les fondations sont dans la poussière, qui sont écrasés par la mite!
Howe much more in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which shalbe destroyed before the moth?
20 Entre le matin et le soir, ils sont détruits. Ils périssent à jamais sans que personne ne s'en aperçoive.
They be destroyed from the morning vnto the euening: they perish for euer, without regarde.
21 Leur corde de tente n'est-elle pas arrachée en eux? Ils meurent, et cela sans sagesse.
Doeth not their dignitie goe away with them? do they not die, and that without wisdom?
