Job 23

1 Alors Job répondit,

Bvt Iob answered and sayd,

2 « Aujourd'hui encore, ma plainte est rebelle. Sa main est lourde malgré mes gémissements.

Though my talke be this day in bitternes, and my plague greater then my groning,

3 Oh, si je savais où je peux le trouver! Pour que je puisse venir jusqu'à son siège!

Would God yet I knew how to finde him, I would enter vnto his place.

4 Je mettrais ma cause en ordre devant lui, et remplir ma bouche d'arguments.

I would pleade the cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

5 Je saurais les mots qu'il me répondrait, et comprendre ce qu'il me disait.

I would knowe the wordes, that he would answere me, and would vnderstand what he would say vnto me.

6 Me disputerait-il dans la grandeur de sa puissance? Non, mais il m'écouterait.

Would he plead against me with his great power? No, but he would put strength in me.

7 Là, les hommes droits pourraient le raisonner, afin que je sois délivré pour toujours de mon juge.

There the righteous might reason with him, so I shoulde be deliuered for euer from my Iudge.

8 « Si je vais à l'est, il n'y est pas. Si je vais à l'ouest, je ne peux pas le trouver.

Behold, if I go to the East, he is not there: if to the West, yet I can not perceiue him:

9 Il travaille au nord, mais je ne peux pas le voir. Il se tourne vers le sud, mais je ne peux pas l'apercevoir.

If to the North where he worketh, yet I cannot see him: he wil hide himselfe in the South, and I cannot beholde him.

10 Mais il connaît le chemin que je prends. Quand il m'aura éprouvé, j'en ressortirai comme de l'or.

But he knoweth my way, and trieth mee, and I shall come forth like the gold.

11 Mon pied s'est attaché à ses pas. J'ai gardé sa voie, je ne me suis pas détourné.

My foote hath followed his steps: his way haue I kept, and haue not declined.

12 Je ne me suis pas détourné du commandement de ses lèvres. J'ai gardé les mots de sa bouche plus que ma nourriture nécessaire.

Neyther haue I departed from the commandement of his lippes, and I haue esteemed the words of his mouth more then mine appointed foode.

13 Mais il est seul, et qui peut s'opposer à lui? Ce que son âme désire, il le fait aussi.

Yet he is in one minde, and who can turne him? yea, he doeth what his minde desireth.

14 Car il accomplit ce qui m'est destiné. Beaucoup de choses de ce genre sont avec lui.

For he will performe that, which is decreed of me, and many such things are with him.

15 C'est pourquoi je suis terrifié en sa présence. Quand je réfléchis, j'ai peur de lui.

Therefore I am troubled at his presence, and in considering it, I am afraid of him.

16 Car Dieu a fait défaillir mon cœur. Le Tout-Puissant m'a terrifié.

For God hath softened mine heart, and the Almightie hath troubled me.

17 Parce que je n'ai pas été retranché avant les ténèbres, il n'a pas non plus recouvert l'épaisse obscurité de mon visage.

For I am not cut off in darknesse, but he hath hid the darkenesse from my face.
