Job 17
1 « Mon esprit est consumé. Mes jours sont éteints et la tombe est prête pour moi.
My spirit, is broken, My days, are extinguished, Graves, are left me.
2 Il y a certainement des moqueurs avec moi. Mon regard s'attarde sur leur provocation.
Verily there are mockers, with me! And, on their insults, mine eye doth rest.
3 « Maintenant, donnez un gage. Sers-toi de toi-même comme garantie pour moi. Qui est là pour me donner la main?
Appoint it, I pray thee—be thou surety for me with thyself, Who is there that, on my side, can pledge himself?
4 Car tu as caché leur cœur à l'intelligence, c'est pourquoi vous ne les exalterez pas.
For, their heart, hast thou kept back from understanding, On this account, thou wilt not exalt them.
5 Celui qui dénonce ses amis pour le pillage, même les yeux de ses enfants seront défaillants.
He that, for a share, denounceth friends, even, the eyes of his children, shall be dim.
6 « Mais il a fait de moi la risée du peuple. Ils me crachent au visage.
But he hath set me, as the byword of peoples, And, one to be spit on in the face, do I become.
7 Mon œil aussi est obscurci par la tristesse. Tous mes membres sont comme une ombre.
Therefore hath mine eye become dim from vexation, and, my members, are like a shadow, all of them.
8 Les hommes droits s'étonneront de cela. L'innocent se soulèvera contre l'impie.
Upright men shall be astounded over this, and, the innocent, against the impious, shall rouse themselves.
9 Mais le juste s'en tiendra à sa voie. Celui qui a les mains propres deviendra de plus en plus fort.
That the righteous may hold on his way, and, the clean of hands, increase in strength.
10 Mais quant à vous tous, revenez. Je ne trouverai pas d'homme sage parmi vous.
But indeed, as for them all, will ye bethink yourselves and enter into it, I pray you? Or shall I not find, among you, one who is wise?
11 Mes jours sont passés. Mes plans sont rompus, comme les pensées de mon cœur.
My days, are past, my purposes, are broken off, the possessions of my heart!
12 Ils changent la nuit en jour, dire « La lumière est proche » en présence de l'obscurité.
Night for day, they appoint, Light, is near, by reason of darkness!
13 Si je considère le séjour des morts comme ma maison, si j'ai étendu ma couche dans l'obscurité, (Sheol h7585)
If I wait for hades as my house, in darkness, have spread out my couch; (Sheol h7585)
14 si j'ai dit à la corruption: « Tu es mon père ». et au ver: « Ma mère » et « Ma sœur ».
To corruption, have exclaimed, My father, thou! My mother! and My sister! to the worm.
15 Où est donc mon espoir? Quant à mon espoir, qui le verra?
Where then would be my hope? And, as for my blessedness, who should see it!
