Job 12
1 Alors Job répondit,
And Job made answer and said,
2 « Sans doute, mais c'est vous qui êtes le peuple, et la sagesse mourra avec vous.
No doubt you have knowledge, and wisdom will come to an end with you.
3 Mais j'ai de l'intelligence aussi bien que vous; Je ne suis pas inférieur à vous. Oui, qui ne connaît pas ce genre de choses?
But I have a mind as well as you; I am equal to you: yes, who has not knowledge of such things as these?
4 Je suis comme celui qui se moque de son prochain, Moi, qui ai invoqué Dieu, et il m'a répondu. Le juste, l'homme irréprochable est une blague.
It seems that I am to be as one who is a cause of laughing to his neighbour, one who makes his prayer to God and is answered! the upright man who has done no wrong is to be made sport of!
5 Dans la pensée de celui qui est à l'aise, il y a du mépris pour le malheur. Il est prêt pour ceux dont le pied glisse.
In the thought of him who is in comfort there is no respect for one who is in trouble; such is the fate of those whose feet are slipping.
6 Les tentes des brigands prospèrent. Ceux qui provoquent Dieu sont en sécurité, qui portent leur dieu dans leurs mains.
There is wealth in the tents of those who make destruction, and those by whom God is moved to wrath are safe; even those whose god is their strength.
7 « Mais demande maintenant aux animaux, et ils t'apprendront; les oiseaux du ciel, et ils vous le diront.
But put now a question to the beasts, and get teaching from them; or to the birds of the heaven, and they will make it clear to you;
8 Ou bien parle à la terre, et elle t'enseignera. Les poissons de la mer te déclareront.
Or to the things which go flat on the earth, and they will give you wisdom; and the fishes of the sea will give you news of it.
9 Qui ne sait pas que dans tout cela, La main de Yahvé a fait cela,
Who does not see by all these that the hand of the Lord has done this?
10 dans la main duquel se trouve la vie de tout être vivant, et le souffle de toute l'humanité?
In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all flesh of man.
11 L'oreille n'essaie pas les mots, même lorsque le palais goûte sa nourriture?
Are not words tested by the ear, even as food is tasted by the mouth?
12 Avec les hommes âgés se trouve la sagesse, dans la compréhension de la durée des jours.
Old men have wisdom, and a long life gives knowledge.
13 « La sagesse et la puissance sont auprès de Dieu. Il a le conseil et la compréhension.
With him there is wisdom and strength; power and knowledge are his.
14 Voici qu'il s'écroule, et il ne peut plus être reconstruit. Il emprisonne un homme, et il ne peut pas être libéré.
Truly, there is no building up of what is pulled down by him; when a man is shut up by him, no one may let him loose.
15 Voici, il retient les eaux, et elles tarissent. Encore une fois, il les envoie, et ils renversent la terre.
Truly, he keeps back the waters and they are dry; he sends them out and the earth is overturned.
16 Avec lui, il y a la force et la sagesse. Le trompé et le trompeur sont à lui.
With him are strength and wise designs; he who is guided into error, together with his guide, are in his hands;
17 Il conduit les conseillers à l'écart, dépouillés. Il fait des juges des imbéciles.
He takes away the wisdom of the wise guides, and makes judges foolish;
18 Il délie les liens des rois. Il leur attache la taille avec une ceinture.
He undoes the chains of kings, and puts his band on them;
19 Il emmène les prêtres dépouillés, et renverse les puissants.
He makes priests prisoners, overturning those in safe positions;
20 Il supprime la parole de ceux à qui l'on fait confiance, et enlève l'intelligence des anciens.
He makes the words of responsible persons without effect, and takes away the good sense of the old;
21 Il répand le mépris sur les princes, et détache la ceinture des forts.
He puts shame on chiefs, and takes away the power of the strong;
22 Il découvre des choses profondes dans les ténèbres, et fait apparaître à la lumière l'ombre de la mort.
Uncovering deep things out of the dark, and making the deep shade bright;
23 Il augmente les nations, et il les détruit. Il agrandit les nations, et il les conduit en captivité.
Increasing nations, and sending destruction on them; making wide the lands of peoples, and then giving them up.
24 Il enlève l'intelligence aux chefs des peuples de la terre, et les fait errer dans un désert où il n'y a pas de chemin.
He takes away the wisdom of the rulers of the earth, and sends them wandering in a waste where there is no way.
25 Ils tâtonnent dans l'obscurité, sans lumière. Il les fait tituber comme un homme ivre.
They go feeling about in the dark without light, wandering without help like those overcome with wine.
