Jérémie 13
1 Yahvé m'a dit: « Va, achète-toi une ceinture de lin, mets-la à ta taille, et ne la mets pas dans l'eau. »
Thus says the Lord, Go and procure for yourself a linen girdle, and put it about your loins, and let it not be put in water.
2 Et j'ai acheté une ceinture, selon la parole de Yahvé, et je l'ai mise à ma taille.
So I procured the girdle according to the word of the Lord, and put it about my loins.
3 La parole de Yahvé me fut adressée pour la seconde fois, en ces termes:
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
4 « Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée et qui est à ta taille, lève-toi, va jusqu'à l'Euphrate, et là, cache-la dans une fente du rocher. »
Take the girdle that is upon your loins, and arise, and go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.
5 Je suis donc allé le cacher près de l'Euphrate, comme Yahvé me l'avait ordonné.
So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as the Lord commanded me.
6 Au bout de plusieurs jours, Yahvé me dit: « Lève-toi, va vers l'Euphrate, et prends là la ceinture que je t'ai ordonné d'y cacher. »
And it came to pass after many days, that the Lord said to me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take thence the girdle, which I commanded you to hide there.
7 Puis je suis allé jusqu'à l'Euphrate, j'ai creusé, et j'ai retiré la ceinture du lieu où je l'avais cachée; et voici, la ceinture était en ruine. Elle n'avait servi à rien.
So I went to the river Euphrates, and dug, and took the girdle out of the place where I [had] buried it: and, behold, it was rotten, utterly good for nothing.
8 Alors la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Thus says the Lord,
9 L'Éternel dit: C'est ainsi que je détruirai l'orgueil de Juda et la grande fierté de Jérusalem.
Thus will I mar the pride of Juda, and the pride of Jerusalem;
10 Ce peuple méchant, qui refuse d'entendre mes paroles, qui marche dans l'obstination de son cœur, et qui est allé après d'autres dieux pour les servir et se prosterner devant eux, sera comme cette ceinture, qui ne sert à rien.
[even] this great pride [of the men] that will not listen to my words, and have gone after strange gods, to serve them, and to worship them: and they shall be as this girdle, which can be used for nothing.
11 Car, comme la ceinture s'attache à la taille d'un homme, ainsi j'ai fait s'attacher à moi toute la maison d'Israël et toute la maison de Juda, dit Yahvé, pour qu'elles soient pour moi un peuple, un nom, une louange et une gloire, mais elles n'ont pas voulu écouter.
For as a girdle cleaves about the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave to myself the house of Israel, and the whole house of Juda; that they might be to me a famous people, and a praise, and a glory: but they did not listen to me.
12 C'est pourquoi tu leur diras cette parole: « L'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, dit: Tout récipient doit être rempli de vin ». Ils te diront: « Ne savons-nous pas que tout récipient doit être rempli de vin? »
And you shall say to this people, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and it shall come to pass, if they shall say to you, Shall we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? that you shall say to them,
13 Alors dis-leur: « L'Éternel dit: Voici que je vais remplir d'ivresse tous les habitants de ce pays, les rois assis sur le trône de David, les prêtres, les prophètes, et tous les habitants de Jérusalem.
Thus says the Lord, Behold, I [will] fill the inhabitants of this land, and their kings the sons of David that sit upon their throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and Juda and all the dwellers in Jerusalem, with strong drink.
14 Je les écraserai les uns contre les autres, les pères et les fils ensemble, dit l'Éternel: « Je n'aurai ni pitié, ni épargne, ni compassion, pour ne pas les détruire. »'"
And I will scatter them a man and his brother, and their fathers and their sons together: I will not have compassion, says the Lord, and I will not spare, neither will I pity [to save them] from destruction.
15 Écoutez, et prêtez l'oreille. Ne sois pas fier, car Yahvé a parlé.
Hear you, and give ear, and be not proud: for the Lord has spoken.
16 Rendez gloire à Yahvé votre Dieu, avant qu'il ne provoque l'obscurité, et avant que vos pieds ne trébuchent sur les montagnes sombres, et pendant que vous cherchez la lumière, il la transforme en ombre de la mort, et en fait une obscurité profonde.
Give glory to the Lord your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and you shall wait for light, and behold the shadow of death, and they shall be brought into darkness.
17 Mais si vous ne voulez pas l'entendre, mon âme pleurera en secret votre orgueil. Mon œil pleurera amèrement, et ruisselant de larmes, car le troupeau de Yahvé a été emmené en captivité.
But if you will not listen, your soul shall weep in secret because of pride, and your eyes shall pour down tears, because the Lord's flock is sorely bruised.
18 Dis au roi et à la reine mère, « Humiliez-vous. Asseyez-vous, car vos couronnes sont tombées, même la couronne de ta gloire.
Say you to the king and the princes, Humble yourselves, and sit down; for your crown of glory is removed from your head.
19 Les villes du Sud sont fermées, et il n'y a personne pour les ouvrir. Juda est emmené en captivité: tous. Ils sont entièrement emportés captifs.
The cities toward the south were shut, and there was none to open [them]: Juda is removed [into captivity, ]they have suffered a complete removal.
20 Lève les yeux, et voir ceux qui viennent du nord. Où est le troupeau qui vous a été donné, votre beau troupeau?
Lift up your eyes, O Jerusalem, and behold them that come from the north; where is the flock that was given you, the sheep of your glory?
21 Que direz-vous lorsqu'il établira à votre tête ceux que vous avez vous-même appris à être vos amis? Les douleurs ne vous saisiront-elles pas, comme une femme en travail?
What will you say when they shall visit you, for you did teach them lessons for rule against yourself; shall not pangs seize you as a woman in travail?
22 Si tu dis dans ton cœur, « Pourquoi ces choses sont-elles venues sur moi? » Vos jupes sont découvertes à cause de la grandeur de votre iniquité, et vos talons subissent des violences.
And if you should say in your heart, Therefore have these things happened to me? Because of the abundance of your iniquity have your skirts been discovered, that your heels might be exposed.
23 L'Éthiopien peut-il changer de peau, ou le léopard ses taches? Alors puissiez-vous aussi faire le bien, qui ont l'habitude de faire le mal.
If the Ethiopian shall change his skin, or the leopardess her spots, then shall you be able to do good, having learned evil.
24 « C'est pourquoi je les disperserai comme le chaume qui passe par le vent du désert.
So I scattered them as sticks carried by the wind into the wilderness.
25 C'est votre lot, la part que je vous ai mesurée, dit Yahvé, « parce que tu m'as oublié, et se sont confiés au mensonge. »
Thus is your lot, and the reward of your disobedience to me, says the Lord; as you did forget me, and trust in lies,
26 C'est pourquoi je découvrirai aussi tes jupes sur ton visage, et votre honte apparaîtra.
I also will expose your skirts upon your face, and your shame shall be seen;
27 J'ai vu vos abominations et vos adultères. et ton hennissement, la débauche de ta prostitution, sur les collines dans le champ. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem! Vous ne serez pas purifié. Combien de temps cela va-t-il encore durer? »
your adultery also, and your neighing, and the looseness of your fornication: on the hills and in the fields I have seen your abominations. Woe to you, O Jerusalem, for you have not been purified so as to follow me; how long yet [shall it be]?
