Jacques 1
1 Jacques, serviteur de Dieu et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ, aux douze tribus qui sont dans la Dispersion: Salutations.
James, the seruaunt of God, and of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, to the twelue kinredis, that ben in scatering abrood, helthe.
2 Réjouissez-vous, mes frères, lorsque vous tombez dans diverses tentations,
My britheren, deme ye al ioye, whanne ye fallen in to diuerse temptaciouns, witynge,
3 sachant que l'épreuve de votre foi produit l'endurance.
that the preuyng of youre feith worchith pacience;
4 Que l'endurance fasse son œuvre parfaite, afin que vous soyez parfaits et complets, ne manquant de rien.
and pacience hath a perfit werk, that ye be perfit and hole, and faile in no thing.
5 Mais si quelqu'un d'entre vous manque de sagesse, qu'il la demande à Dieu, qui donne à tous libéralement et sans reproche, et elle lui sera donnée.
And if ony of you nedith wisdom, axe he of God, which yyueth to alle men largeli, and vpbreidith not; and it schal be youun to hym.
6 Mais qu'il demande avec foi, sans douter, car celui qui doute est semblable à une vague de la mer, poussée par le vent et agitée.
But axe he in feith, and doute no thing; for he that doutith, is lijk to a wawe of the see, which is moued and borun a boute of wynde.
7 Car cet homme ne doit pas penser qu'il recevra quelque chose du Seigneur.
Therfor gesse not the ilke man, that he schal take ony thing of the Lord.
8 C'est un homme à double pensée, instable dans toutes ses voies.
A man dowble in soule is vnstable in alle hise weies.
9 Que le frère dans l'humilité se glorifie de sa haute situation;
And a meke brother haue glorie in his enhaunsyng,
10 et le riche, de ce qu'il est rendu humble, car, comme la fleur dans l'herbe, il passera.
and a riche man in his lownesse; for as the flour of gras he schal passe.
11 Car le soleil se lève avec un vent brûlant et flétrit l'herbe; la fleur qu'elle contient tombe, et la beauté de son aspect périt. Ainsi, l'homme riche se fanera aussi dans ses occupations.
The sunne roos vp with heete, and driede the gras, and the flour of it felde doun, and the fairnesse of his chere perischide; and so a riche man welewith in hise weies.
12 Heureux celui qui supporte la tentation, car, après avoir été agréé, il recevra la couronne de vie que le Seigneur a promise à ceux qui l'aiment.
Blessid is the man, that suffrith temptacioun; for whanne he schal be preued, he schal resseyue the coroun of lijf, which God biheyte to men that louen hym.
13 Que personne ne dise, quand il est tenté: « Je suis tenté par Dieu », car Dieu ne peut être tenté par le mal, et lui-même ne tente personne.
No man whanne he is temptid, seie, that he is temptid of God; for whi God is not a temptere of yuele thingis, for he temptith no man.
14 Mais chacun est tenté quand il est attiré par sa propre convoitise et séduit.
But ech man is temptid, drawun and stirid of his owne coueiting.
15 Alors la convoitise, quand elle a conçu, engendre le péché. Et le péché, quand il est devenu adulte, produit la mort.
Aftirward coueityng, whanne it hath conseyued, bringith forth synne; but synne, whanne it is fillid, gendrith deth.
16 Ne vous y trompez pas, mes frères bien-aimés.
Therfor, my most dereworthe britheren, nyle ye erre.
17 Tout don agréable et tout don parfait viennent d'en haut, du Père des lumières, chez qui il n'y a ni variation ni ombre portée.
Ech good yifte, and ech perfit yifte is from aboue, and cometh doun fro the fadir of liytis, anentis whom is noon other chaungyng, ne ouerschadewyng of reward.
18 De sa propre volonté, il nous a engendrés par la parole de la vérité, afin que nous soyons une sorte de prémices de ses créatures.
For wilfulli he bigat vs bi the word of treuthe, that we be a bigynnyng of his creature.
19 Ainsi donc, mes frères bien-aimés, que chacun soit prompt à entendre, lent à parler, et lent à se mettre en colère;
Wite ye, my britheren moost loued, be ech man swift to here, but slow to speke, and slow to wraththe;
20 car la colère de l'homme ne produit pas la justice de Dieu.
for the wraththe of man worchith not the riytwisnesse of God.
21 C'est pourquoi, rejetant toute souillure et tout débordement de méchanceté, recevez avec humilité la parole implantée, qui peut sauver vos âmes.
For which thing caste ye awei al vnclennesse, and plentee of malice, and in myldenesse resseyue ye the word that is plauntid, that may saue youre soulis.
22 Mais mettez la parole en pratique, et ne vous contentez pas d'écouter, en vous trompant vous-mêmes.
But be ye doeris of the word, and not hereris oneli, disseiuynge you silf.
23 Car si quelqu'un écoute la parole et ne la met pas en pratique, il est semblable à un homme qui regarde son visage naturel dans un miroir;
For if ony man is an herere of the word, and not a doere, this schal be licned to a man that biholdith the cheer of his birthe in a mirour;
24 car il se voit lui-même, et s'en va, et aussitôt il oublie quelle sorte d'homme il était.
for he bihelde hym silf, and wente awei, and anoon he foryat which he was.
25 Mais celui qui regarde la loi parfaite de la liberté et qui persévère, n'étant pas un auditeur qui oublie, mais un exécutant, celui-là sera béni dans ce qu'il fera.
But he that biholdith in the lawe of perfit fredom, and dwellith in it, and is not maad a foryetful herere, but a doere of werk, this schal be blessid in his dede.
26 Si quelqu'un parmi vous se croit religieux alors qu'il ne tient pas sa langue en bride, mais trompe son cœur, la religion de cet homme est sans valeur.
And if ony man gessith hym silf to be religiouse, and refreyneth not his tunge, but disseyueth his herte, the religioun of him is veyn.
27 Voici ce qu'est une religion pure et sans tache devant notre Dieu et Père: visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leur détresse, et se garder des souillures du monde.
A clene religioun, and an vnwemmed anentis God and the fadir, is this, to visite fadirles and modirles children, and widewis in her tribulacioun, and to kepe hym silf vndefoulid fro this world.
