Isaïe 41
1 « Taisez-vous devant moi, îles, et que les peuples renouvellent leur force. Laissez-les s'approcher, alors laissez-les parler. Retrouvons-nous ensemble pour le jugement.
Keep silence before Me, O islands, and let the peoples renew their strength; let them draw near, then let them speak; let us come near together to judgment.
2 Qui a suscité un homme de l'Orient? Qui l'a rappelé à l'ordre dans la justice? Il lui remet les nations et le fait régner sur les rois. Il les donne comme la poussière à son épée, comme le chaume enfoncé dans son arc.
Who hath raised up one from the east, at whose steps victory attendeth? He giveth nations before him, and maketh him rule over kings; his sword maketh them as the dust, his bow as the driven stubble.
3 Il les poursuit et passe en toute sécurité, même par un chemin qu'il n'avait pas emprunté avec ses pieds.
He pursueth them, and passeth on safely; the way with his feet he treadeth not.
4 Qui a travaillé et qui l'a fait, en appelant les générations depuis le début? Moi, Yahvé, le premier et le dernier, c'est moi. »
Who hath wrought and done it? He that called the generations from the beginning. I, the LORD, who am the first, and with the last am the same.
5 Les îles ont vu, et elles craignent. Les extrémités de la terre tremblent. Ils s'approchent, et viennent.
The isles saw, and feared; the ends of the earth trembled; they drew near, and came.
6 Chacun aide son voisin. Ils disent à leurs frères: « Soyez forts! »
They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother: 'Be of good courage.'
7 Ainsi le charpentier encourage l'orfèvre. Celui qui lisse avec le marteau encourage celui qui frappe l'enclume, disant de la soudure, « C'est bon ». et il le fixe avec des clous, pour qu'il ne chancelle pas.
So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smiteth the anvil, saying of the soldering: 'It is good'; and he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved.
8 « Mais toi, Israël, mon serviteur, Jacob que j'ai choisi, la descendance d'Abraham mon ami,
But thou, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham My friend;
9 vous que j'ai saisis des extrémités de la terre, et appelé depuis ses coins, et t'a dit: « Tu es mon serviteur. Je t'ai choisi et je ne t'ai pas rejeté ».
Thou whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the uttermost parts thereof, and said unto thee: 'Thou art My servant, I have chosen thee and not cast thee away';
10 N'ayez pas peur, car je suis avec vous. Ne soyez pas consternés, car je suis votre Dieu. Je vais te renforcer. Oui, je vais vous aider. Oui, je te soutiendrai avec la main droite de ma justice.
Fear thou not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I strengthen thee, yea, I help thee; yea, I uphold thee with My victorious right hand.
11 Voici que tous ceux qui s'enflamment contre toi seront déçus et confondus. Ceux qui luttent avec toi ne seront rien et périront.
Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded; they that strove with thee shall be as nothing, and shall perish.
12 Tu les chercheras, et tu ne les trouveras pas, même ceux qui vous contestent. Ceux qui te font la guerre ne seront rien, comme une chose inexistante.
Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee; they that warred against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
13 Car moi, Yahvé ton Dieu, je tiendrai ta main droite, qui vous dit: « N'ayez pas peur. Je vais vous aider.
For I the LORD thy God hold thy right hand, who say unto thee: 'Fear not, I help thee.'
14 N'aie pas peur, vermisseau de Jacob, et vous, hommes d'Israël. Je t'aiderai », dit Yahvé. « Votre rédempteur est le Saint d'Israël.
Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I help thee, saith the LORD, and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
15 Voici, j'ai fait de toi un nouvel instrument de battage tranchant, avec des dents. Vous allez battre les montagnes, et les battre à petit feu, et rendra les collines semblables à de la paille.
Behold, I make thee a new threshing-sledge having sharp teeth; thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff.
16 Tu les vanneras, et le vent les emportera, et le tourbillon les dispersera. Vous vous réjouirez en Yahvé. Tu te glorifieras dans le Saint d'Israël.
Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them; and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, thou shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.
17 Les pauvres et les indigents cherchent de l'eau, et il n'y en a pas. Leur langue manque de soif. Moi, Yahvé, je leur répondrai. Moi, le Dieu d'Israël, je ne les abandonnerai pas.
The poor and needy seek water and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst; I the LORD will answer them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.
18 J'ouvrirai des rivières sur les hauteurs dénudées, et des sources au milieu des vallées. Je ferai du désert un bassin d'eau, et la terre sèche des sources d'eau.
I will open rivers on the high hills, and fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.
19 Je mettrai dans le désert des cèdres, des acacias, des myrtes et des arbres à huile. Je mettrai ensemble des cyprès, des pins et des buis dans le désert;
I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia-tree, and the myrtle, and the oil-tree; I will set in the desert the cypress, the plane-tree, and the larch together;
20 afin qu'ils puissent voir, connaître, considérer et comprendre ensemble, que la main de Yahvé a fait cela, et le Saint d'Israël l'a créé.
That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.
21 Produisez votre cause, dit l'Éternel. « Sortez vos fortes raisons! » dit le roi de Jacob.
Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your reasons, saith the King of Jacob.
22 « Qu'ils nous annoncent et nous déclarent ce qui va arriver! Déclarez les choses passées, ce qu'elles sont, afin que nous puissions les considérer et en connaître la fin; ou nous montrer des choses à venir.
Let them bring them forth, and declare unto us the things that shall happen; the former things, what are they? Declare ye, that we may consider, and know the end of them; or announce to us things to come.
23 Annoncez les choses qui doivent arriver dans l'au-delà, afin que nous sachions que vous êtes des dieux. Oui, fais le bien, ou fais le mal, pour que nous soyons consternés, et le voir ensemble.
Declare the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods; yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
24 Voici, vous n'êtes rien, et votre travail n'est rien. Celui qui vous choisit est une abomination.
Behold, ye are nothing, and your work a thing of nought; an abomination is he that chooseth you.
25 « J'ai suscité un homme du nord, et il est venu, dès le lever du soleil, celui qui invoque mon nom, et il s'abattra sur les chefs comme sur un mortier, et comme le potier foule l'argile.
I have roused up one from the north, and he is come, from the rising of the sun one that calleth upon My name; and he shall come upon rulers as upon mortar, and as the potter treadeth clay.
26 Qui l'a déclaré dès le commencement, afin que nous le sachions? et avant, pour que nous puissions dire: « Il a raison »? Certes, il n'y a personne qui déclare. Sûrement, il n'y a personne qui montre. Certes, il n'y a personne qui entende tes paroles.
Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say that he is right? Yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that announceth, yea, there is none that heareth your utterances.
27 Je suis le premier à dire à Sion: « Voici, regarde-les ». et je donnerai à celui qui apporte de bonnes nouvelles à Jérusalem.
A harbinger unto Zion will I give: 'Behold, behold them', and to Jerusalem a messenger of good tidings.
28 Quand je regarde, il n'y a pas d'homme, même parmi eux, il n'y a pas de conseiller qui, lorsque je demande, puisse répondre à un mot.
And I look, but there is no man; even among them, but there is no counsellor, that, when I ask of them, can give an answer.
29 Voici, toutes leurs actions ne sont que vanité et néant. Leurs images en fusion sont le vent et la confusion.
Behold, all of them, their works are vanity and nought; their molten images are wind and confusion.
