Isaïe 34
1 Approchez-vous, nations, pour entendre! Ecoutez, vous les peuples. Que la terre et tout ce qu'elle contient entende, le monde, et tout ce qui en découle.
You people of all nations, come near and listen and pay careful attention. I want the world and everything that is in it to hear what I say.
2 Car Yahvé est en colère contre toutes les nations, et en colère contre toutes leurs armées. Il les a complètement détruits. Il les a livrés à l'abattoir.
Yahweh is angry with [the people of] all nations; he is (furious/very angry) with all their armies. He has decided that they must be destroyed, and he will slaughter them.
3 Leurs morts seront aussi chassés, et la puanteur de leurs cadavres remontera. Les montagnes fondront dans leur sang.
Their corpses will not be buried, and [as a result] their corpses will stink, and their blood will [fill the streams that] flow down the mountains.
4 Toute l'armée du ciel sera dissoute. Le ciel sera enroulé comme un rouleau, et toutes ses armées s'évanouiront, comme une feuille se détache d'une vigne ou d'un figuier.
The sky will disappear like [SIM] a scroll that is rolled up [and thrown away]. Stars will fall [from the sky] like [SIM] [withered] leaves fall from grapevines, [or] like [SIM] shriveled figs fall from fig trees.
5 Car mon épée s'est abreuvée dans le ciel. Voici qu'il va s'abattre sur Edom, et sur le peuple de ma malédiction, pour le jugement.
When Yahweh has finished his work of destroying objects in the sky, he will punish [the people of] Edom, that people-group that he has said must be destroyed/exterminated.
6 L'épée de Yahvé est remplie de sang. Il est couvert de graisse, du sang des agneaux et des chèvres, avec la graisse des rognons de béliers; car Yahvé a un sacrifice à Bozrah, et un grand massacre dans le pays d'Edom.
[It is as though] Yahweh has a sword that is covered with blood and fat— the blood of lambs and goats and the fat of the kidneys of rams to be sacrificed. [It is as though] Yahweh will offer a sacrifice in [the city of] Bozrah [and kill many people] in other cities in Edom.
7 Les bœufs sauvages descendront avec eux, et les jeunes taureaux avec les taureaux puissants; et leur pays sera enivré de sang, et leur poussière rendue grasse par la graisse.
[Even] wild oxen will be killed, as well as young calves and big bulls. The ground will be soaked with blood, and the dirt will be covered with the fat of those animals.
8 Car Yahvé a un jour de vengeance, une année de récompense pour la cause de Sion.
That will be the time when Yahweh gets revenge for what those people did to the people of Judah.
9 Ses ruisseaux se transformeront en poix, sa poussière en soufre, et sa terre deviendra de la poix brûlante.
The streams in Edom will be full of burning pitch/tar, and the ground will be covered with burning sulfur.
10 Il ne s'éteint ni jour ni nuit. Sa fumée va s'élever pour toujours. De génération en génération, il restera en friche. Personne ne la traversera pour toujours et à jamais.
Yahweh will never finish punishing Edom with fire; the smoke will rise forever. No one will ever live in that land, and no one will [even] travel through it.
11 Mais le pélican et le porc-épic la posséderont. Le hibou et le corbeau y habiteront. Il va étirer la ligne de la confusion à ce sujet, et le fil à plomb du vide.
Ravens and various kinds of owls and small animals will live there. Yahweh will measure that land carefully: He will measure it to [to decide where] to cause chaos and destruction.
12 On appellera ses nobles dans le royaume, mais il n'y en aura aucun; et tous ses princes ne seront rien.
There will be no princes; the people who have authority will have no kingdom to rule.
13 Les épines surgiront dans ses palais, des orties et des chardons dans ses forteresses; et ce sera une habitation pour les chacals, un tribunal pour les autruches.
The deserted palaces and fortified buildings will be full of thorns and thistles. The ruins will be a place for jackals/wolves and owls to live.
14 Les animaux sauvages du désert rencontreront les loups, et le bouc sauvage criera à son compagnon. Oui, la créature de la nuit s'y installera, et trouvera un lieu de repos.
Animals that live in the desert and hyenas/wolves will be there, and wild goats will bleat/call to each other. There will also be creatures/animals that [roam around] at night.
15 Le serpent à flèche y fera son nid, et se coucher, éclore et se rassembler à son ombre. Oui, les cerfs-volants seront rassemblés là, chacun avec son compagnon.
Owls will make their nests there and lay their eggs in the nests; and when the eggs hatch, the mother birds will cover them [with their wings]. There will also be falcons/hawks there, each with its mate.
16 Cherchez dans le livre de l'Éternel, et lisez: aucun d'entre eux ne manquera. Aucun ne manquera son compagnon. Car ma bouche a ordonné, et son Esprit les a rassemblés.
If you read what is written in the book that contains messages from Yahweh, you will find out what he will do [in Edom]. All of those animals and birds will be there, and each one will have a mate, because that is what Yahweh has promised, and his Spirit will cause them [all] to gather [there].
17 Il a jeté le sort pour eux, et sa main l'a divisé pour eux avec une ligne de mesure. Ils la posséderont pour toujours. De génération en génération, ils y habiteront.
He has decided what parts of the land [of Edom] each will live in, and those are the places where each bird or animal will live. Their descendants will possess those areas forever, throughout all generations.
