Isaïe 31

1 Malheur à ceux qui descendent chercher du secours en Égypte, et compter sur les chevaux, et se fient aux chars, car ils sont nombreux, et chez les cavaliers car ils sont très forts, mais ils ne regardent pas vers le Saint d'Israël, et ils ne cherchent pas Yahvé!

Woe vnto them that goe downe into Egypt for helpe, and stay vpon horses, and trust in charets, because they are many, and in horsemen, because they be very strong: but they looke not vnto the holy one of Israel, nor seeke vnto the Lord.

2 Mais lui aussi est sage, et il amènera le désastre, et ne retiendra pas ses paroles, mais se lèvera contre la maison des méchants, et contre l'aide de ceux qui commettent l'iniquité.

But he yet is wisest: therefore he wil bring euill, and not turne backe his worde, but he will arise against the house of the wicked, and against the helpe of them that worke vanitie.

3 Or les Égyptiens sont des hommes, et non pas Dieu; et leurs chevaux de la chair, et non de l'esprit. Quand Yahvé étend sa main, celui qui aide trébuche, et celui qui est aidé tombera, et ils seront tous consumés ensemble.

Now the Egyptians are men, and not God, and their horses flesh and not spirite: and when the Lord shall stretch out his hand, the helper shall fall, and hee that is holpen shall fall, and they shall altogether faile.

4 Car Yahvé me dit, « Comme le lion et le jeune lion grondant sur sa proie, si une multitude de bergers est convoquée contre lui, ne sera pas consterné par leur voix, ni s'abaisser pour leur bruit, alors Yahvé des armées descendra pour combattre sur la montagne de Sion et sur ses hauteurs.

For thus hath the Lord spoken vnto me, As the lyon or lyons whelpe roareth vpon his praye, against whom if a multitude of shepheards be called, hee will not be afraide at their voyce, neither will humble him selfe at their noise: so shall the Lord of hostes come downe to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.

5 Comme les oiseaux qui planent, ainsi Yahvé des armées protégera Jérusalem. Il la protégera et la délivrera. Il passera au-dessus et la préservera. »

As birds that flie, so shall the Lord of hostes defend Ierusalem by defending and deliuering, by passing through and preseruing it.

6 Revenez à celui dont vous vous êtes profondément révoltés, enfants d'Israël.

O ye children of Israel, turne againe, in as much as ye are sunken deepe in rebellion.

7 Car en ce jour-là, chacun se débarrassera de ses idoles d'argent et de ses idoles d'or, péchés que vos propres mains ont fabriqués pour vous.

For in that day euery man shall cast out his idoles of siluer, and his idoles of golde, which your handes haue made you, euen a sinne.

8 « L'Assyrien tombera par l'épée, et non par l'homme; et l'épée, qui n'est pas celle des hommes, le dévorera. Il fuira l'épée, et ses jeunes hommes seront soumis au travail forcé.

Then shall Asshur fall by the sworde, not of man, neither shall the sworde of man deuoure him, and hee shall flee from the sworde, and his yong men shall faint.

9 Son rocher passera à cause de la terreur, et ses princes auront peur de la bannière, » dit Yahvé, dont le feu est en Sion, et sa fournaise à Jérusalem.

And he shall go for feare to his towre, and his princes shall be afraide of the standart, sayeth the Lord, whose fire is in Zion, and his fornace in Ierusalem.
