Isaïe 26
1 En ce jour-là, on chantera ce cantique dans le pays de Juda: « Nous avons une ville forte. Dieu destine le salut aux murs et aux remparts.
In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah: “We have a strong city; His aid doth God appoint for walls and bulwarks.
2 Ouvrez les portes, pour que la nation juste puisse entrer: celui qui garde la foi.
Open ye the gates, That the righteous nation may enter in, The nation that keepeth the truth.
3 Tu gardes dans une paix parfaite l'esprit de celui qui est ferme, parce qu'il a confiance en vous.
Him that is of a steadfast mind Thou wilt keep in continual peace, Because he trusteth in thee.
4 Faites confiance à Yahvé pour toujours; car en Yah, Yahvé, est un rocher éternel.
Trust ye in Jehovah forever, For the Lord Jehovah is an everlasting rock.
5 Car il a fait tomber les habitants des hauteurs, de la ville haute. Il fait profil bas. Il la pose à ras du sol. Il l'apporte même à la poussière.
For he hath brought down the inhabitants of the fortress; The lofty city he hath laid low; He hath laid her low even to the ground; He hath levelled her with the dust.
6 Le pied la foulera, même les pieds des pauvres et les pas des nécessiteux ».
The foot trampleth upon her, The feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.
7 La voie du juste est la droiture. Toi qui es droit, tu nivelles le chemin des justes.
The way of the upright is a smooth way; Thou, O most righteous, doth level the path of the upright!
8 Oui, dans la voie de tes jugements, Yahvé, nous t'avons attendu. Ton nom et ta renommée sont le désir de notre âme.
In the way of thy judgments, O Jehovah, we have waited for thee; The desire of our souls is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee.
9 De mon âme, je t'ai désiré pendant la nuit. Oui, avec mon esprit en moi, je vous chercherai sincèrement; car quand tes jugements sont sur la terre, les habitants du monde apprennent la justice.
My soul longeth for thee in the night, And my spirit within me seeketh thee in the morning; For when thy judgments are in the earth, The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
10 Que l'on fasse grâce aux méchants, mais il n'apprendra pas la droiture. Dans le pays de la droiture, il agira mal, et ne verront pas la majesté de Yahvé.
Though favor be shown to the wicked, He will not learn righteousness; In the land of uprightness will he deal unjustly, And have no regard to the majesty of Jehovah.
11 Yahvé, ta main est levée, et ils ne voient pas; mais ils verront votre zèle pour le peuple et seront déçus. Oui, le feu consumera vos adversaires.
Thy hand, O Jehovah, is lifted up, yet do they not see; But they shall see with shame thy zeal for thy people; Yea, fire shall devour thine adversaries.
12 Yahvé, tu ordonneras la paix pour nous, car tu as aussi fait tout notre travail pour nous.
Thou, O Jehovah, wilt give us peace; For all our works thou doest for us.
13 Yahvé notre Dieu, d'autres seigneurs que toi ont dominé sur nous, mais nous ne reconnaîtrons que votre nom.
O Jehovah, our God, other lords have had dominion over us besides thee; Only through thee do we call upon thy name.
14 Les morts ne vivront pas. Les esprits défunts ne s'élèveront pas. C'est pourquoi vous les avez visités et détruits, et a fait périr toute mémoire d'eux.
They are dead, they shall not live; They are shades, they shall not rise. For thou hast visited and destroyed them, And caused all the memory of them to perish.
15 Tu as multiplié la nation, ô Yahvé. Vous avez augmenté la nation! Vous êtes glorifié! Tu as élargi toutes les frontières du pays.
“Thou wilt enlarge the nation, O Jehovah! Thou wilt enlarge the nation; thou wilt glorify thyself; Thou wilt widely extend all the borders of the land.
16 Yahvé, c'est dans la détresse qu'ils t'ont visité. Ils ont versé une prière lorsque ton châtiment s'est abattu sur eux.
O Jehovah, in affliction they sought thee; They poured out their prayer, when thy chastisement was upon them.
17 Comme une femme enceinte, qui approche du moment de l'accouchement, est en souffrance et crie dans ses douleurs, ainsi nous avons été devant toi, Yahvé.
As a woman with child, when her delivery is near, Is in anguish, and crieth aloud in her pangs, So have we been, far from thy presence, O Jehovah!
18 Nous avons été avec l'enfant. Nous avons souffert. Nous n'avons donné naissance, semble-t-il, qu'à du vent. Nous n'avons opéré aucune délivrance sur la terre; les habitants du monde ne sont pas non plus tombés.
We have been with child; we have been in anguish, Yet have, as it were, brought forth wind. To the land we bring no deliverance; Nor are the inhabitants of the land born.
19 Vos morts vivront. Leurs corps morts se lèveront. Réveillez-vous et chantez, vous qui habitez dans la poussière; car ta rosée est comme la rosée des herbes, et la terre chassera les esprits des défunts.
O might thy dead live again, Might the dead bodies of my people arise! Awake, and sing, ye that dwell in the dust! For thy dew is like the dew upon plants, And the earth shall bring forth her dead.”
20 Venez, mon peuple, entrez dans vos chambres, et fermez vos portes derrière vous. Cachez-vous pendant un petit moment, jusqu'à ce que l'indignation soit passée.
Come, my people, enter into thy chambers, And shut thy doors behind thee; Hide thyself for a little moment, Until the indignation be overpast!
21 Car voici que Yahvé sort de son lieu pour punir les habitants de la terre à cause de leur iniquité. La terre aussi dévoilera son sang, et ne couvrira plus ses morts.
For behold, Jehovah cometh forth from his place, To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; And the earth shall disclose her blood, And shall no longer cover her slain.
