1 En effet, ce Melchisédek, roi de Salem, prêtre du Dieu Très-Haut, qui rencontra Abraham au retour du massacre des rois et le bénit,
For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham turning back from the striking of the kings, and blessed him,
2 à qui Abraham partagea aussi la dixième partie de tout (étant d'abord, par interprétation, « roi de justice », puis aussi « roi de Salem », ce qui signifie « roi de paix »,
to whom also Abraham divided a tenth of all (first, indeed, being interpreted, “King of righteousness,” and then also, “King of Salem,” which is, King of Peace),
3 sans père, sans mère, sans généalogie, n'ayant ni commencement de jours ni fin de vie, mais rendu semblable au Fils de Dieu), demeure prêtre à perpétuité.
without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, and having been like the Son of God, remains a priest continually.
4 Considérez maintenant la grandeur de cet homme, à qui même le patriarche Abraham donnait la dîme sur le meilleur butin.
And see how great this one [is], to whom Abraham the patriarch also gave a tenth out of the best of the spoils,
5 Ceux des fils de Lévi qui reçoivent l'office de prêtre ont en effet reçu l'ordre de prélever la dîme sur le peuple selon la loi, c'est-à-dire sur leurs frères, bien que ceux-ci soient sortis du corps d'Abraham,
and those, indeed, out of the sons of Levi receiving the priesthood, have a command to take tithes from the people according to the Law, that is, their brothers, even though they came forth out of the loins of Abraham;
6 mais celui dont la généalogie n'est pas comptée à partir d'eux a accepté la dîme d'Abraham, et a béni celui qui a les promesses.
and he who was not reckoned by genealogy of them, received tithes from Abraham, and he has blessed him having the promises,
7 Le plus petit est béni par le plus grand, sans aucune contestation.
and apart from all controversy, the less is blessed by the better—
8 Ici, des gens qui meurent reçoivent la dîme, mais là, quelqu'un reçoit la dîme de celui dont il est attesté qu'il vit.
and here, indeed, men who die receive tithes, and there [he] who is testified to that he was living,
9 Nous pouvons dire que, par Abraham, même Lévi, qui reçoit la dîme, a payé la dîme,
and so to speak, through Abraham even Levi who is receiving tithes, has paid tithes,
10 car il était encore dans le corps de son père lorsque Melchisédek l'a rencontré.
for he was yet in the loins of the father when Melchizedek met him.
11 Or, si la perfection a été obtenue par le sacerdoce lévitique (car c'est sous lui que le peuple a reçu la loi), quel besoin y avait-il encore pour qu'un autre sacrificateur se lève selon l'ordre de Melchisédek, et ne soit pas appelé selon l'ordre d'Aaron?
If indeed, then, perfection were through the Levitical priesthood—for the people under it had received law—what further need, according to the order of Melchizedek, for another priest to arise, and not to be called according to the order of Aaron?
12 En effet, le sacerdoce étant changé, il est nécessaire que la loi soit aussi changée.
For the priesthood being changed, of necessity also, a change comes of the Law,
13 Car celui dont il est question ici appartient à une autre tribu, dont personne ne s'est occupé de l'autel.
for He of whom these things are said in another tribe has had part, of whom no one gave attendance at the altar,
14 Car il est évident que notre Seigneur est issu de Juda, tribu dont Moïse n'a pas parlé en ce qui concerne le sacerdoce.
for [it is] evident that out of Judah has arisen our Lord, in regard to which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.
15 Ce qui est encore plus évident, c'est que, à l'image de Melchisédek, il y a un autre prêtre,
And it is yet more abundantly most evident, if according to the likeness of Melchizedek there arises another priest,
16 qui a été créé, non pas selon la loi d'un commandement charnel, mais selon la puissance d'une vie sans fin;
who did not come according to the law of a fleshly command, but according to the power of an endless life,
17 car il en est rendu témoignage, « Tu es un prêtre pour toujours, selon l'ordre de Melchizedek. » (aiōn g165)
for He testifies, “You [are] a priest—throughout the age, according to the order of Melchizedek”; (aiōn g165)
18 Car il y a annulation d'un commandement antérieur à cause de sa faiblesse et de son inutilité
for an annulling indeed comes of the command going before because of its weakness, and unprofitableness
19 (car la loi n'a rien rendu parfait), et introduction d'une espérance meilleure, par laquelle nous nous approchons de Dieu.
(for nothing did the Law perfect), and the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
20 En effet, il n'a pas été établi prêtre sans serment
And inasmuch as [it is] not apart from oath
21 (car ils ont été établis prêtres sans serment), mais il a été établi prêtre avec serment par celui qui a dit de lui, « Le Seigneur a juré et ne changera pas d'avis, Tu es prêtre pour toujours, selon l'ordre de Melchizedek. » (aiōn g165)
(for those indeed apart from oath have become priests, and He [became priest] with an oath through Him who is saying to Him, “The LORD swore, and will not regret, You [are] a priest throughout the age, according to the order of Melchizedek”), (aiōn g165)
22 Par là, Jésus est devenu la garantie d'une alliance meilleure.
by so much also has Jesus become guarantee of a better covenant,
23 Beaucoup, en effet, ont été sacrificateurs, parce que la mort les empêchait de continuer.
and those indeed are many who have become priests, because by death they are hindered from remaining;
and He, because of His remaining throughout the age, has the inviolable priesthood, (aiōn g165)
25 C'est pourquoi il peut aussi sauver jusqu'à l'extrême ceux qui s'approchent de Dieu par lui, puisqu'il vit éternellement pour intercéder en leur faveur.
from where also He is able to save to the very end, those coming through Him to God—ever living to make intercession for them.
26 Car c'est un tel souverain sacrificateur qui nous convient, saint, innocent, sans tache, séparé des pécheurs, élevé au-dessus des cieux,
For also such a Chief Priest was fitting for us—holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from the sinners, and having become higher than the heavens,
27 qui n'a pas besoin, comme ces souverains sacrificateurs, d'offrir chaque jour des sacrifices, d'abord pour ses propres péchés, puis pour ceux du peuple. Car il l'a fait une fois pour toutes, en s'offrant lui-même.
who has no daily necessity, as the chief priests, to first offer up sacrifice for His own sins, then for those of the people; for this He did once, having offered up Himself;
28 En effet, la loi établit comme grands prêtres des hommes qui ont une faiblesse, mais la parole du serment, qui est postérieure à la loi, établit pour toujours un Fils qui a été perfectionné. (aiōn g165)
for the Law appoints men [as] chief priests, having weakness, but the word of the oath that [is] after the Law [appoints] the Son having been perfected throughout the age. (aiōn g165)
