Hébreux 4
1 Craignons donc que quelqu'un parmi vous ne paraisse avoir manqué à la promesse d'entrer dans son repos.
LET us fear then lest, though a promise be left of entering into his rest, any one of you should appear to fail of obtaining it.
2 En effet, la bonne nouvelle nous a été annoncée, comme à eux aussi; mais la parole qu'ils ont entendue ne leur a pas profité, parce qu'elle n'a pas été mêlée de foi par ceux qui l'ont entendue.
For we are hearing the same gospel preached as they did; but the word heard did not profit them, not being incorporated by faith with those who heard it.
3 Mais nous, qui avons cru, nous entrons dans ce repos, selon qu'il a dit: « Comme je l'ai juré dans ma colère, ils n'entreront pas dans mon repos », bien que les œuvres aient été achevées dès la fondation du monde.
For we who have believed, have entered into the rest, even as he said, “So, I sware in my wrath, that they shall not enter into my rest;” and that notwithstanding the works were done from the foundation of the world.
4 Car il a dit quelque part, au sujet du septième jour: « Dieu s'est reposé le septième jour de toutes ses œuvres »;
For he said in a certain passage concerning the seventh day to this purport, “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.”
5 et encore ici: « Ils n'entreront pas dans mon repos ».
And in this passage again, “They shall not enter into my rest.”
6 Puisqu'il reste donc que quelques-uns y entrent, et que ceux à qui la bonne nouvelle a été annoncée auparavant n'y sont pas entrés à cause de leur désobéissance,
Forasmuch therefore as it remaineth for some to enter into it, and they who first had the gospel preached to them entered not in because of unbelief;
7 il définit de nouveau un certain jour, « aujourd'hui », disant par David si longtemps après (comme il a été dit), « Aujourd'hui, si vous voulez entendre sa voix, n'endurcissez pas vos cœurs. »
again he limiteth a certain day, saying by David, To-day, after so long a time; as it is said, “To-day if ye will hear his voice harden not your hearts.”
8 Car si Josué leur avait donné du repos, il n'aurait pas parlé ensuite d'un autre jour.
For if Joshua had given them the rest, he would not afterwards have spoken of another day.
9 Il reste donc un repos de sabbat pour le peuple de Dieu.
A sabbatical rest then still remaineth for the people of God.
10 Car celui qui est entré dans son repos s'est aussi reposé de ses œuvres, comme Dieu l'a fait des siennes.
For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath rested from his works, as God did from his own.
11 Efforçons-nous donc d'entrer dans ce repos, de peur que quelqu'un ne tombe dans le même exemple de désobéissance.
Let us then earnestly endeavour to enter into that rest, lest any person fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 Car la parole de Dieu est vivante et efficace, plus tranchante qu'aucune épée à deux tranchants, elle pénètre jusqu'à la division de l'âme et de l'esprit, des articulations et des mœlles, et elle est capable de discerner les pensées et les intentions du cœur.
For the word of God is quickening, and energetic, and sharper than every two-edged sword, and piercing through and through, so as to divide both soul and spirit, both joints and spinal marrow, and critically judges the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Il n'y a pas de créature qui soit cachée à sa vue, mais tout est nu et exposé aux yeux de celui à qui nous devons rendre compte.
Even creation is not invisible before him, but all things are naked, and fully displayed before his eyes, to whom we must give our account.
14 Ayant donc un grand prêtre qui a traversé les cieux, Jésus, le Fils de Dieu, tenons fermement notre confession.
Having then a great high-priest passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast the confession.
15 Car nous n'avons pas un grand prêtre qui ne puisse être touché par le sentiment de nos infirmités, mais quelqu'un qui a été tenté comme nous en toutes choses, mais sans pécher.
For we have not an high-priest incapable of a fellow-feeling with our infirmities, but one tempted in all points, in exact resemblance with ourselves, sin excepted.
16 Approchons-nous donc avec assurance du trône de la grâce, afin d'obtenir miséricorde et de trouver grâce pour être secourus en cas de besoin.
Let us therefore approach with boldness the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and find grace for seasonable help.
