Habacuc 2
1 Je me tiendrai à ma garde et je me placerai sur les remparts, et je regarderai pour voir ce qu'il me dira, et ce que je répondrai au sujet de ma plainte.
Upon my watch-tower, will I stand, and will station myself upon the bulwark, —so will I keep outlook, to see—what he will speak with me, and what I shall reply, when I am reproved.
2 Yahvé me répondit: « Écris la vision, et mets-la en évidence sur des tablettes, afin que celui qui court puisse la lire.
Then Yahweh answered me, and said, Write the vision, Yea, make it plain on tablets, that one may swiftly read it;
3 Car la vision est encore pour le temps fixé, et elle se hâte vers la fin, et ne se démentira pas. Même si elle prend du temps, attendez-la, car elle viendra sûrement. Elle ne tardera pas.
For yet is the vision for an appointed time, still, it presseth towards an end, and will not deceive, —if it tarry, wait thou for it, for it, surely cometh, —will not be too late.
4 Voici, son âme s'enfle d'orgueil. Il n'est pas droit en lui, mais le juste vivra par sa foi.
Lo! as for the conceited one, crooked is his soul within him, - but, one who is righteous, by his faithfulness, shall live.
5 Oui, de plus, le vin est perfide: un homme arrogant qui ne reste pas chez lui, qui élargit son désir comme le séjour des morts; il est comme la mort et ne peut être satisfait, mais il rassemble à lui toutes les nations et entasse à lui tous les peuples. (Sheol h7585)
Moreover also, when wine betrayeth, a man, is arrogant, and findeth no rest, —because he hath enlarged, like hades, his desire, yea, he, is like death, and cannot be satisfied, —but hath gathered unto himself, all the nations, and assembled unto himself, all the peoples. (Sheol h7585)
6 Tous ne prendront-ils pas contre lui une parabole et un proverbe de raillerie, et ne diront-ils pas: « Malheur à celui qui augmente ce qui ne lui appartient pas, et qui s'enrichit par l'extorsion! ». Jusqu'à quand? »
Shall not, these, all of them, against him, take up—a taunt, a mocking poem, enigmatical sentences—concerning him? And say—Alas! for him who maketh abundance in what is not his own, How long? that he should be burdening himself with heavy debts?
7 Tes débiteurs ne vont-ils pas se lever soudainement, réveiller ceux qui te font trembler, et tu seras leur victime?
Will not thy creditors, suddenly rise up? and they who shall violently shake thee, all at once become active? Then shalt thou serve for booties, unto them!
8 Parce que tu as pillé de nombreuses nations, tout le reste des peuples te pillera à cause du sang des hommes, des violences faites au pays, à la ville et à tous ceux qui l'habitent.
Because, thou, hast plundered many nations, all the residue of the peoples, shall plunder thee, —for shedding Human blood, and doing violence to the earth, to the city, and to all who dwell therein.
9 Malheur à celui qui obtient un mauvais gain pour sa maison, afin de placer son nid en haut, afin d'être délivré de la main du malheur!
Alas! for him who extorteth an extortion of wrong for his own house, —that he may set on high his nest, that he may be delivered from the grasp of calamity.
10 Tu as conçu la honte de ta maison en exterminant de nombreux peuples, et tu as péché contre ton âme.
Thou hast counseled shame to thy house—making an end of many peoples, and endangering thine own life.
11 Car la pierre criera de la muraille, et la poutre de la charpente y répondra.
Surely, the stone out of the wall, will make outcry, —and, the tie out of the timber, will answer it.
12 Malheur à celui qui bâtit une ville par le sang, et qui affermit une cité par l'iniquité!
Alas! for him who buildeth a city with deeds of blood, —and establisheth a town with perversity.
13 Voici, n'est-ce pas de la part de l'Éternel des armées que les peuples travaillent pour le feu, et que les nations se fatiguent pour la vanité?
Lo! is it not from Yahweh of hosts—that peoples labour for fire, and, populations, for emptiness, weary themselves?
14 Car la terre sera remplie de la connaissance de la gloire de l'Éternel, comme les eaux couvrent la mer.
For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Yahweh, —as, the waters, cover the sea.
15 « Malheur à celui qui donne à boire à son prochain, en versant votre vin brûlant jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient ivres, afin que vous puissiez contempler leurs corps nus!
Alas! for him who causeth his neighbour to drink, from the goblet of thy fury, and also, making him drunk, —to the end thou mayest gloat over their parts of shame.
16 Vous êtes remplis de honte, et non de gloire. Vous aussi, vous boirez et serez exposés! La coupe de la main droite de Yahvé se retournera contre vous, et l'opprobre couvrira votre gloire.
Thou art sated with contempt, more than glory, drink, thou too, and expose thy person, —the cup of the right hand of Yahweh, shall come round unto thee, and ignominious filth be upon thy glory;
17 Car la violence faite au Liban vous accablera, et la destruction des animaux vous terrifiera, à cause du sang des hommes et de la violence faite au pays, à chaque ville et à ceux qui y habitent.
For, the violence [done] to Lebanon, shall cover thee, and wasting by wild beasts shall cause them terror, —for shedding Human blood, and doing violence to the earth, to the city, and to all who dwell therein.
18 « Quelle valeur a l'image gravée, pour que son créateur l'ait gravée; l'image fondue, pour que celui qui en façonne la forme s'y fie, pour fabriquer des idoles muettes?
What hath a carved image, profited, though the fashioner thereof, carved it? a molten image, and a teacher of falsehood, —though the fashioner of his fashioned thing trusted therein? that men should make Dumb Nonentities!
19 Malheur à celui qui dit au bois: « Réveille-toi! » ou à la pierre muette: « Lève-toi! ». Est-ce là un enseignement? Voici, elle est recouverte d'or et d'argent, et il n'y a en elle aucun souffle.
Alas! for him who saith to wood, Awake, bestir thee! to a silent stone, he, shall teach! Though he is overlaid with gold and silver, yet, no spirit whatsoever, is in him!
20 Mais Yahvé est dans son temple saint. Que toute la terre se taise devant lui! »
Howbeit, Yahweh, is in his holy temple, —Hush before him, all the earth.
