Genèse 23
1 Sarah a vécu cent vingt-sept ans. Telle fut la durée de la vie de Sara.
When Sarah was an hundreth twentie and seuen yeere olde (so long liued she).
2 Sara mourut à Kiriath Arba (appelée aussi Hébron), dans le pays de Canaan. Abraham vint pour porter le deuil de Sara et pour la pleurer.
Then Sarah dyed in Kiriath-arba: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan. and Abraham came to mourne for Sarah and to weepe for her.
3 Abraham se leva de devant sa mort et parla aux fils de Heth, en disant:
Then Abraham rose vp from the sight of his corps, and talked with the Hittites, saying,
4 « Je suis un étranger et une étrangère qui vit avec vous. Donnez-moi la possession d'un lieu de sépulture chez vous, afin que j'enterre mes morts hors de ma vue. »
I am a stranger, and a forreiner among you, giue me a possession of buriall with you, that I may burie my dead out of my sight.
5 Les fils de Heth prirent la parole et dirent à Abraham:
Then the Hittites answered Abraham, saying vnto him,
6 « Écoute-nous, mon seigneur. Tu es un prince de Dieu parmi nous. Enterre tes morts dans le meilleur de nos tombeaux. Aucun de nous ne te refusera son tombeau. Enterre tes morts. »
Heare vs, my lorde: thou art a prince of God among vs: in the chiefest of our sepulchres bury thy dead: none of vs shall forbid thee his sepulchre, but thou mayest bury thy dead therein.
7 Abraham se leva, et se prosterna devant le peuple du pays, devant les fils de Heth.
Then Abraham stoode vp, and bowed him selfe before the people of the land of the Hittites.
8 Il leur parla ainsi: « Si vous êtes d'accord pour que j'enterre mes morts hors de ma vue, écoutez-moi, et plaidez pour moi auprès d'Ephron, fils de Zohar,
And he communed with them, saying, If it be your minde, that I shall bury my dead out of my sight, heare me, and intreate for me to Ephron the sonne of Zohar,
9 afin qu'il me vende la grotte de Macpéla qu'il possède, qui est au bout de son champ. Pour le plein prix, qu'il me la vende au milieu de vous comme une possession pour une sépulture. »
That he would giue me ye caue of Machpelah, which he hath in the ende of his field: that he would giue it me for as much money as it is worth, for a possession to bury in among you.
10 Or Éphron était assis au milieu des fils de Heth. Ephron, le Hittite, répondit à Abraham en présence des fils de Heth, de tous ceux qui entraient à la porte de sa ville, et dit:
(For Ephron dwelt among the Hittites) Then Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of all the Hittites that went in at the gates of his citie, saying,
11 « Non, mon seigneur, écoute-moi. Je te donne le champ, et je te donne la grotte qui s'y trouve. En présence des enfants de mon peuple, je te la donne. Enterre tes morts. »
No, my Lord, heare me: the fielde giue I thee, and the caue, that therein is, I giue it thee: euen in the presence of the sonnes of my people giue I it thee, to bury thy dead.
12 Abraham se prosterna devant le peuple du pays.
Then Abraham bowed himselfe before the people of the land,
13 Il s'adressa à Ephron, en présence du peuple du pays, et dit: « Mais si tu le veux, écoute-moi. Je vais donner le prix du champ. Prends-le de ma part, et j'y enterrerai mes morts. »
And spake vnto Ephron in the audience of the people of the countrey, saying, Seeing thou wilt giue it, I pray thee, heare me, I will giue the price of the fielde: receiue it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
14 Ephron prit la parole et dit à Abraham:
Ephron then answered Abraham, saying vnto him,
15 « Mon seigneur, écoute-moi. Qu'est-ce qu'un morceau de terre valant quatre cents sicles d'argent entre moi et toi? Enterre donc tes morts. »
My lord, hearken vnto me: ye land is worth foure hundreth shekels of siluer: what is that betweene me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.
16 Abraham écouta Ephron. Abraham pesa à Ephron l'argent qu'il avait nommé à l'audition des fils de Heth, quatre cents sicles d'argent, selon l'usage courant des marchands.
So Abraham hearkened vnto Ephron, and Abraham weyed to Ephron the siluer, which he had named, in the audience of the Hittites, euen foure hundreth siluer shekels of currant money among marchants.
17 Le champ d'Ephron, qui était à Macpéla, en face de Mamré, le champ, la caverne qui s'y trouvait, et tous les arbres qui étaient dans le champ, dans toute son étendue, furent donnés
So the fielde of Ephron which was in Machpelah, and ouer against Mamre, euen the field and the caue that was therein, and all the trees that were in the fielde, which were in all the borders round about, was made sure
18 à Abraham comme possession en présence des fils de Heth, devant tous ceux qui entraient à la porte de sa ville.
Vnto Abraham for a possession, in ye sight of the Hittites, euen of all that went in at the gates of his citie.
19 Après cela, Abraham enterra Sara, sa femme, dans la caverne du champ de Macpéla, devant Mamré, c'est-à-dire Hébron, au pays de Canaan.
And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the caue of the fielde of Machpelah ouer against Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.
20 Le champ et la grotte qui s'y trouve ont été cédés à Abraham par les fils de Heth comme une possession pour une sépulture.
Thus the fielde and the caue, that is therein, was made sure vnto Abraham for a possession of buriall by the Hittites.
