Esther 6
1 Cette nuit-là, le roi ne pouvait pas dormir. Il ordonna qu'on apporte le livre des chroniques, et on les lut au roi.
That night the king could not sleep. He commanded servants to bring the records of the events of his reign, and they were being read aloud to the king.
2 On y trouva écrit que Mardochée avait raconté que Bigthana et Teresh, deux des eunuques du roi, qui étaient portiers, avaient essayé de porter la main sur le roi Assuérus.
It was found recorded there that Mordecai had told about Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's officials who guarded the entrance, who had tried to harm King Ahasuerus.
3 Le roi dit: « Quel honneur et quelle dignité a-t-on donné à Mardochée pour cela? » Les serviteurs du roi qui l'assistaient dirent: « On n'a rien fait pour lui. »
The king asked, “What was done to give honor or recognition to Mordecai for doing this?” Then the king's young men who served him said, “Nothing was done for him.”
4 Le roi dit: « Qui est dans la cour? » Haman était entré dans la cour extérieure de la maison du roi, pour parler au roi de faire pendre Mardochée à la potence qu'il avait préparée pour lui.
The king said, “Who is in the courtyard?” Now Haman had entered the outer courtyard of the king's house to speak to him about hanging Mordecai on the gallows he set up for him.
5 Les serviteurs du roi lui dirent: « Voici Haman qui se tient dans la cour. » Le roi dit: « Qu'il entre. »
The king's servants said to him, “Haman is standing in the courtyard.” The king said, “Let him come in.”
6 Haman entra donc. Le roi lui dit: « Que fera-t-on à l'homme que le roi se plaît à honorer? » Haman disait en son for intérieur: « Qui le roi prendrait-il plaisir à honorer plus que moi? ».
When Haman entered, the king said to him, “What should be done for the man whom the king takes pleasure in honoring?” Now Haman said in his heart, “Whom would the king take pleasure in honoring more than me?”
7 Haman dit au roi: « Pour l'homme que le roi veut honorer,
Haman said to the king, “For the man whom the king takes pleasure in honoring,
8 que l'on apporte les vêtements royaux dont le roi se sert pour se vêtir, et le cheval que le roi monte et sur la tête duquel est posée une couronne royale.
let royal robes be brought, robes that the king has worn, and a horse that the king has ridden and on whose head is the royal crest.
9 Que les vêtements et le cheval soient remis à l'un des princes les plus nobles du roi, afin qu'il en revête l'homme que le roi veut honorer, qu'il le fasse monter à cheval sur la place de la ville et qu'il proclame devant lui: « C'est ainsi qu'il sera fait à l'homme que le roi veut honorer ».
Then let the robes and the horse be given to one of the king's most noble officials. Let them dress the man whom the king takes pleasure in honoring, and let them lead him on the horse through the city streets. Let them proclaim before him, 'This is what is done to the one whom the king takes pleasure in honoring!'”
10 Alors le roi dit à Haman: « Dépêche-toi de prendre les vêtements et le cheval, comme tu l'as dit, et fais-le pour Mardochée, le Juif, qui est assis à la porte du roi. Que rien ne manque à tout ce que tu as dit. »
Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry, take the robes and the horse, as you have said, and do this for Mordecai the Jew who sits at the king's gate. Do not fail in a single matter of what you have said.”
11 Alors Haman prit les vêtements et le cheval, habilla Mardochée, le fit monter sur la place de la ville et proclama devant lui: « C'est ainsi qu'il sera fait à l'homme que le roi se plaît à honorer! »
Then Haman took the robe and the horse. He dressed Mordecai and led him on the horse through the city streets. He proclaimed before him, “This is what is done for a man whom the king takes pleasure in honoring!”
12 Mardochée revint à la porte du roi, mais Haman se précipita dans sa maison, en deuil et la tête couverte.
Mordecai returned to the king's gate. But Haman hurried to his house, mourning, with his head covered.
13 Haman raconta à Zéresh, sa femme, et à tous ses amis tout ce qui lui était arrivé. Ses sages et Zéresh, sa femme, lui dirent alors: « Si Mardochée, devant lequel tu as commencé à tomber, est d'origine juive, tu ne prévaudras pas contre lui, mais tu tomberas certainement devant lui. »
Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that happened to him. Then his men who were known for their wisdom, and Zeresh his wife, said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is Jewish, you will not overcome him, but you will certainly fall before him.”
14 Pendant qu'ils discutaient encore avec lui, les eunuques du roi arrivèrent et s'empressèrent d'amener Haman au banquet qu'Esther avait préparé.
While they were talking with him, the king's officials arrived. They hurried to bring Haman to the feast that Esther had prepared.
