Esther 4
1 Lorsque Mardochée eut appris tout ce qui s'était passé, il déchira ses vêtements, se revêtit d'un sac de cendre, sortit au milieu de la ville et poussa de grands cris et des larmes amères.
And Mordecai has known all that has been done, and Mordecai tears his garments, and puts on sackcloth and ashes, and goes forth into the midst of the city and cries—a cry loud and bitter,
2 Il alla même jusqu'à la porte du roi, car personne ne peut entrer dans la porte du roi vêtu d'un sac.
and he comes to the front of the gate of the king, but none is to come to the gate of the king with a sackcloth-garment.
3 Dans toutes les provinces, partout où arrivèrent l'ordre du roi et son décret, il y eut parmi les Juifs un grand deuil, un jeûne, des pleurs et des gémissements, et beaucoup se couchèrent dans le sac et la cendre.
And in each and every province, the place where the word of the king, even his law, is coming, the Jews have a great mourning, and fasting, and weeping, and lamenting: sackcloth and ashes are spread for many.
4 Les servantes d'Esther et ses eunuques vinrent lui raconter cela, et la reine fut extrêmement peinée. Elle envoya des vêtements à Mardochée, pour remplacer son sac, mais il ne les reçut pas.
And young women of Esther come in and her eunuchs, and declare [it] to her, and the queen is exceedingly pained, and sends garments to clothe Mordecai, and to turn aside his sackcloth from off him, and he has not received [them].
5 Alors Esther appela Hathac, l'un des eunuques du roi, qu'elle avait désigné pour la servir, et lui ordonna d'aller voir Mardochée pour savoir ce que c'était et pourquoi.
And Esther calls to Hatach, of the eunuchs of the king, whom he has stationed before her, and gives him a charge for Mordecai, to know what this [is], and why this [is].
6 Hathac sortit donc vers Mardochée, sur la place de la ville qui était devant la porte du roi.
And Hatach goes out to Mordecai, to a broad place of the city, that [is] before the gate of the king,
7 Mardochée lui raconta tout ce qui lui était arrivé, et la somme exacte de l'argent qu'Haman avait promis de verser aux trésors du roi pour la destruction des Juifs.
and Mordecai declares to him all that has met him, and the explanation of the money that Haman said to weigh to the treasuries of the king for the Jews, to destroy them,
8 Il lui donna aussi la copie de l'écriture du décret qui avait été publié à Suse pour les détruire, afin de la montrer à Esther, de la lui déclarer et de l'inciter à aller voir le roi pour l'implorer et demander devant lui pour son peuple.
and the copy of the writing of the law that had been given in Shushan to destroy them he has given to him, to show Esther, and to declare [it] to her, and to lay a charge on her to go in to the king, to make supplication to him, and to seek from before him, for her people.
9 Hathac vint et rapporta à Esther les paroles de Mardochée.
And Hatach comes in and declares to Esther the words of Mordecai,
10 Alors Esther parla à Hathac et lui donna un message pour Mardochée:
and Esther speaks to Hatach, and charges him for Mordecai:
11 « Tous les serviteurs du roi et le peuple des provinces du roi savent que quiconque, homme ou femme, se présente au roi dans la cour intérieure sans être appelé, n'a qu'une seule loi, celle d'être mis à mort, sauf ceux à qui le roi tendrait le sceptre d'or pour qu'ils vivent. Je n'ai pas été appelé à entrer chez le roi depuis trente jours. »
“All servants of the king, and people of the provinces of the king, know that any man and woman who comes to the king, into the inner court, who is not called—one law of his [is] to put [them] to death, apart from him to whom the king holds out the golden scepter, then he has lived; and I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.”
12 Ils rapportèrent les paroles d'Esther à Mardochée.
And they declare to Mordecai the words of Esther,
13 Alors Mardochée leur demanda de rendre cette réponse à Esther: « Ne pense pas en toi-même que tu échapperas à la maison du roi, pas plus que tous les Juifs.
and Mordecai commands to send back to Esther: “Do not think in your soul to be delivered [in] the house of the king, more than all the Jews,
14 Car si tu te tais maintenant, le secours et la délivrance viendront aux Juifs d'un autre endroit, mais toi et la maison de ton père périront. Qui sait si tu n'es pas venu dans le royaume pour un moment comme celui-ci? »
but if you keep entirely silent at this time, respite and deliverance remains to the Jews from another place, and you and the house of your fathers are destroyed; and who knows whether for a time like this you have come to the kingdom?”
15 Esther leur demanda alors de répondre à Mardochée:
And Esther commands to send back to Mordecai:
16 « Allez, rassemblez tous les Juifs qui se trouvent à Suse, et jeûnez pour moi, sans manger ni boire pendant trois jours, nuit et jour. Moi et mes jeunes filles, nous jeûnerons aussi de la même manière. Ensuite, j'irai trouver le roi, ce qui est contraire à la loi; et si je péris, je péris. »
“Go, gather all the Jews who are found in Shushan, and fast for me, and do not eat nor drink three days, by night and by day; also I and my young women fast likewise, and so I go in to the king, that [is] not according to law, and when I have perished—I have perished.”
17 Mardochée s'en alla donc et fit tout ce qu'Esther lui avait ordonné.
And Mordecai passes on, and does according to all that Esther has charged on him.
