Deutéronome 24
1 Lorsqu'un homme prendra une femme et l'épousera, si elle ne trouve pas grâce à ses yeux, parce qu'il a trouvé en elle quelque chose d'inconvenant, il lui écrira un acte de divorce, le mettra dans sa main, et la renverra hors de sa maison.
When a man hath taken a wife, and married her, and it come to pass, that if she find no favor in his eyes, because he hath found some scandalous thing in her, he may write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her away out of his house;
2 Lorsqu'elle sera sortie de sa maison, elle pourra aller et devenir la femme d'un autre homme.
And she shall depart out of his house; and if she go and become another man's wife;
3 Si ce dernier mari la hait, lui écrit un acte de divorce, le met dans sa main et la renvoie de sa maison, ou si meurt ce dernier mari qui l'avait prise pour femme,
And the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand, and send her away out of his house; or if the latter husband, who took her as his wife, should die:
4 son ancien mari, qui l'a renvoyée, ne pourra pas la reprendre pour femme après qu'elle se sera souillée, car ce serait une abomination pour Yahvé. Tu ne feras pas pécher le pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne en héritage.
Then shall her former husband, who had sent her away, not be at liberty to take her again to be his wife, after she hath been defiled; for it is abomination before the Lord; and thou shalt not bring sin upon the land, which the Lord thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
5 Lorsqu'un homme prendra une nouvelle femme, il ne partira pas à l'armée et n'aura pas d'emploi. Il sera libre chez lui pendant un an, et il acclamera la femme qu'il a prise.
When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any public business: he shall be free for his house one year, and shall cheer up his wife whom he hath taken.
6 Nul ne prendra en gage le moulin ou la meule supérieure, car il prend une vie en gage.
No man shall take to pledge the nether or the upper millstone; for he taketh a man's life to pledge.
7 Si un homme est trouvé en train de voler un de ses frères des enfants d'Israël, et qu'il le traite comme esclave ou le vende, ce voleur mourra. Vous éliminerez ainsi le mal du milieu de vous.
If a man be found stealing any one of his brethren of the children of Israel, and he treateth him as a slave, and selleth him: then shall that thief die; and thou shalt put the evil away from the midst of thee.
8 Prenez garde, dans la plaie de la lèpre, d'observer avec soin et de faire tout ce que les prêtres lévitiques vous enseignent. Vous observerez et ferez ce que je leur ai ordonné.
Take heed of the plague of leprosy, to observe diligently, and to do according to all that the priests, the Levites, may instruct you; as I have commanded them, so shall ye observe to do.
9 Souviens-toi de ce que Yahvé ton Dieu a fait à Myriam, sur le chemin de ta sortie d'Égypte.
Remember what the Lord thy God did unto Miriam on the journey, at your coming forth out of Egypt.
10 Lorsque tu prêteras à ton prochain une somme d'argent quelconque, tu n'entreras pas dans sa maison pour prendre son gage.
When thou dost lend thy brother any thing as a loan, thou shalt not go into his house to take his pledge.
11 Tu te tiendras dehors, et l'homme à qui tu prêtes t'apportera le gage à l'extérieur.
In the street shalt thou stand, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out unto thee the pledge into the street.
12 Si c'est un pauvre, tu ne dormiras pas avec son gage.
And if he be a poor man, thou shalt not lie down with his pledge:
13 Tu lui rendras son gage au coucher du soleil, afin qu'il dorme dans son vêtement et te bénisse. C'est une justice pour toi devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu.
Thou shalt punctually deliver him the pledge again when the sun goeth down, that he may lie under his own cover, and bless thee; and unto thee shall it be as righteousness before the Lord thy God.
14 Tu n'opprimeras pas un mercenaire pauvre et indigent, qu'il soit l'un de tes frères ou l'un des étrangers qui se trouvent dans ton pays, dans tes portes.
Thou shalt not withhold the wages of a hired man, of the poor and needy, [whether he be] of thy brethren, or of the strangers that are in thy land within thy gates.
15 Tu lui donneras son salaire le jour même, et le soleil ne se couchera pas sur lui, car il est pauvre et y met tout son cœur, de peur qu'il ne crie contre toi à l'Éternel, et que cela ne soit un péché pour toi.
On the same day shalt thou give him his wages, that the sun may not go down upon it; for he is poor, and his soul longeth for it; so that he may not cry against thee unto the Lord, and it be sin in thee.
16 Les pères ne seront pas mis à mort pour les enfants, et les enfants ne seront pas mis à mort pour les pères. Tout homme sera mis à mort pour son propre péché.
Fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall children be put to death for the fathers: for his own sin shall every man be put to death.
17 Tu ne priveras pas de justice l'étranger ou l'orphelin, et tu ne prendras pas en gage les vêtements d'une veuve;
Thou shalt not pervert the cause of the stranger, or of the fatherless; and thou shalt not take in pledge the raiment of a widow;
18 mais tu te souviendras que tu as été esclave en Égypte, et que Yahvé ton Dieu t'y a racheté. C'est pourquoi je te commande de faire cette chose.
But thou shalt remember that thou waste a bond-man in Egypt, and that the Lord thy God redeemed thee thence; therefore do I command thee to do this thing.
19 Lorsque tu récolteras ta moisson dans ton champ et que tu auras oublié une gerbe dans le champ, tu ne retourneras pas la chercher. Ce sera pour l'étranger, pour l'orphelin et pour la veuve, afin que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénisse dans tout le travail de tes mains.
When thou cuttest down thy harvest in thy field, and forgettest a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go back to fetch it; for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow shall it be; in order that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thy hands.
20 Lorsque tu auras battu ton olivier, tu ne repasseras pas sur les rameaux. Ce sera pour l'étranger, pour l'orphelin et pour la veuve.
When thou beatest thy olive-tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again; for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow shall it be.
21 Lorsque tu récolteras ta vigne, tu ne la glaneras pas pour toi-même. Ce sera pour l'étranger, pour l'orphelin et pour la veuve.
When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean the small fruit afterward; for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow shall it be.
22 Tu te souviendras que tu as été esclave dans le pays d'Égypte. C'est pourquoi je t'ordonne de faire cette chose.
And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bond-man in the land of Egypt; therefore do I command thee to do this thing:
