Deutéronome 14

1 Vous êtes les enfants de Yahvé votre Dieu. Vous ne vous couperez pas, et vous ne ferez pas de calvitie entre vos yeux pour les morts.

“Be sons of the Lord your God. You shall not cut yourselves, nor make yourselves bald, because of the dead.

2 Car vous êtes un peuple saint pour l'Éternel, votre Dieu, et l'Éternel vous a choisis pour être un peuple qui lui appartienne en propre, par-dessus tous les peuples qui sont sur la face de la terre.

For you are a holy people, for the Lord your God. And he chose you, so that you may be a people particularly his, out of all the nations on earth.

3 Vous ne mangerez aucune chose abominable.

You shall not eat the things that are unclean.

4 Voici les animaux que vous pourrez manger: le bœuf, le mouton, la chèvre,

These are the animals which you ought to eat: the ox, and the sheep, and the goat,

5 le cerf, la gazelle, le chevreuil, la chèvre sauvage, le bouquetin, l'antilope et le chamois.

the stag and the roe deer, the gazelle, the wild goat, the addax, the antelope, the giraffe.

6 Vous pourrez manger de tous les animaux qui ont le sabot fendu en deux et qui ruminent.

Every beast which has a hoof divided into two parts and which also chews the cud, you shall eat.

7 Mais vous ne mangerez pas de ceux qui ruminent, ni de ceux qui ont le sabot fendu: le chameau, le lièvre et le lapin. Parce qu'ils ruminent mais n'ont pas le sabot fendu, ils sont impurs pour vous.

But those which chew over again, but do not have a divided hoof, you must not eat, such as the camel, the hare, and the hyrax. Since these chew the cud, but do not have a divided the hoof, they shall be unclean to you.

8 Le porc, parce qu'il a le sabot fendu mais ne rumine pas, vous est impur. Vous ne mangerez pas de leur viande. Vous ne toucherez pas leurs carcasses.

The pig also, since it has a divided hoof, but does not chew over again, shall be unclean. Their flesh shall not be eaten, and you shall not touch their carcasses.

9 Voici ce que vous pourrez manger de tout ce qui se trouve dans les eaux: vous pourrez manger tout ce qui a des nageoires et des écailles.

These you shall eat out of all that dwells in the waters: whatever has fins and scales, you shall eat.

10 Vous ne mangerez pas ce qui n'a pas de nageoires et d'écailles. C'est une impureté pour vous.

Whatever is without fins and scales, you shall not eat, for these are unclean.

11 Tu pourras manger de tous les oiseaux purs.

All the clean birds, you shall eat.

12 Mais voici ceux dont tu ne mangeras pas: l'aigle, le vautour, le balbuzard pêcheur,

You shall not eat those that are unclean: such as the eagle, and the griffin, and the osprey,

13 le milan royal, le faucon, le milan de toute espèce,

the crane, and the vulture, and the kite, according to their kind,

14 le corbeau de toute espèce,

and any kind of raven,

15 l'autruche, le hibou, la mouette, le faucon de toute espèce,

and the ostrich, and the owl, and the gull, and the hawk, according to their kind,

16 la chouette, le hibou grand duc, le hibou des marais,

the heron, and the swan, and the ibis,

17 le pélican, le vautour, le cormoran,

and the sea bird, the marsh hen, and the night raven,

18 la cigogne, le héron selon son espèce, la huppe et la chauve-souris.

the pelican and the plover, each in their kind, likewise the crested hoopoe and the bat.

19 Tous les reptiles ailés sont impurs pour vous. Vous ne les mangerez pas.

And anything which crawls and also has little wings shall be unclean, and shall not be eaten.

20 Vous pourrez manger de tous les oiseaux purs.

All that is clean, you shall eat.

21 Tu ne mangeras pas de ce qui meurt de lui-même. Tu pourras le donner à l'étranger qui habite au milieu de toi et qui se trouve dans tes portes, pour qu'il en mange, ou tu pourras le vendre à un étranger, car tu es un peuple saint pour Yahvé ton Dieu. Tu ne feras pas bouillir un chevreau dans le lait de sa mère.

But whatever has died of itself, you shall not eat from it. Give it to the sojourner, who is within your gates, so that he may eat, or sell it to him. For you are the holy people of the Lord your God. You shall not boil a young goat in the milk of his mother.

22 Tu prélèveras la dîme de tout le produit de ta semence, de ce qui sort des champs année après année.

Each year, you shall separate the tithes out of all your crops which spring forth from the earth.

23 Tu mangeras devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu, dans le lieu qu'il choisira pour faire résider son nom, la dîme de ton blé, de ton moût et de ton huile, et des premiers-nés de ton gros et de ton menu bétail, afin que tu apprennes à craindre toujours l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

And you shall eat these in the sight of the Lord your God, in the place which he will choose, so that his name may be invoked there: the tenth part of your grain and wine and oil, and the firstborn from the herds and your sheep. So may you learn to fear the Lord your God at all times.

24 Si le chemin est trop long pour toi, et que tu ne puisses pas le porter, parce que le lieu que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, choisira pour y fixer son nom est trop éloigné de toi, lorsque l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénira,

But when the way and the place which the Lord your God will have chosen is further away, and he will have blessed you, so that you are not able to carry all these things to it,

25 tu le transformeras en argent, tu lieras l'argent dans ta main, et tu iras au lieu que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, choisira.

you shall sell them all, so as to turn them into money, and you shall carry it in your hand, and you shall set out for the place which the Lord will choose.

26 Tu échangeras cet argent contre tout ce que ton âme désirera: du bétail, des brebis, du vin, des boissons fortes, ou tout ce que ton âme te demandera. Tu y mangeras devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et tu te réjouiras, toi et ta famille.

And you shall buy with the same money whatever pleases you, either from the herds or from the sheep, and also wine and liquor, and all that your soul desires. And you shall eat in the sight of the Lord your God, and you shall feast: you and your household.

27 Tu n'abandonneras pas le Lévite qui est dans tes portes, car il n'a ni part ni héritage avec toi.

As for the Levite, who is within your gates, take care that you do not abandon him, for he has no other portion within your possession.

28 A la fin de chaque période de trois ans, tu apporteras toute la dîme de ton revenu de la même année, et tu la conserveras dans tes portes.

In the third year, you shall separate another tenth part of all the things which spring forth for you at that time, and you shall store it within your gates.

29 Le Lévite, parce qu'il n'a ni part ni héritage chez toi, ainsi que l'étranger qui habite au milieu de toi, l'orphelin et la veuve qui sont dans tes portes, viendront, mangeront et seront rassasiés, afin que Yahvé ton Dieu te bénisse dans tout le travail de tes mains que tu fais.

And the Levite, who has no other portion or possession with you, and the sojourner as well as the orphan and the widow who are within your gates, shall approach and eat and be satisfied, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the works of your hands which you shall do.”
