Deutéronome 13

1 S'il s'élève parmi vous un prophète ou un songeur, qui vous annonce un signe ou un prodige,

When there shall arise in thy midst—a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, —and he shall give unto thee a sign or a wonder;

2 et que s'accomplisse le signe ou le prodige dont il vous a parlé en disant: « Allons après d'autres dieux » (que vous n'avez pas connus) « et servons-les »,

and the sign or the wonder shall come in, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, —Let us go after other gods, which ye know not and let us serve them

3 vous n'écouterez pas les paroles de ce prophète ou de ce songeur, car l'Éternel, votre Dieu, vous éprouve pour savoir si vous aimez l'Éternel, votre Dieu, de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme.

thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or unto that dreamer of dreams, —for Yahweh your God, is putting you to the proof, to know whether ye do love Yahweh your God, with all your heart and with all your soul.

4 Tu marcheras après l'Éternel, ton Dieu, tu le craindras, tu observeras ses commandements et tu obéiras à sa voix. Tu le serviras et tu t'attacheras à lui.

After Yahweh your God, shall ye walk And him, shall ye revere, —And his commandments, shall ye observe. And unto his voice, shall ye hearken, And him, shall ye serve And unto him, shall ye cleave.

5 Ce prophète, ou ce songeur, sera mis à mort, parce qu'il a parlé de rébellion contre l'Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t'a fait sortir du pays d'Égypte et t'a racheté de la maison de servitude, pour te détourner de la voie dans laquelle l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a ordonné de marcher. Tu ôteras donc le mal du milieu de toi.

And that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death because he hath spoken revolt against Yahweh your God, —who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt and redeemed thee out of the house of servants, to seduce thee out of the way wherein Yahweh thy God hath commanded thee to walk, —so shalt thou consume the wicked thing out of thy midst.

6 Si ton frère, fils de ta mère, ou ton fils, ou ta fille, ou la femme de ton sein, ou ton ami qui est comme ta propre âme, t'attire secrètement en disant: « Allons servir d'autres dieux » - que tu n'as pas connus, ni toi, ni tes pères;

When thy brother—son of thine own mother or thine own son or thine own daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend who is as thine own soul, shall entice thee secretly, saying, —Let us go and serve other gods, whom thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;

7 des dieux des peuples qui sont autour de toi, près de toi ou loin de toi, d'une extrémité de la terre à l'autre extrémité de la terre -

of the gods of the peoples who are round about you, who are near unto thee, or who are far off from thee, —from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth,

8 tu ne lui consentiras pas et tu ne l'écouteras pas; ton œil n'aura pas pitié de lui, tu ne l'épargneras pas et tu ne le cacheras pas,

thou shalt not consent unto him, neither shalt thou hearken unto him, —neither shall thine eye look with pity upon him, neither shalt thou spare—neither shalt thou conceal him;

9 mais tu le tueras. Ta main sera la première sur lui pour le faire mourir, et ensuite les mains de tout le peuple.

but thou shalt slay, him, thine own hand, shall be on him first, to put him to death, —and the hand of all the people afterwards.

10 Vous le lapiderez à mort, parce qu'il a cherché à vous détourner de l'Éternel, votre Dieu, qui vous a fait sortir du pays d'Égypte, de la maison de servitude.

And thou shalt stone him with stones that he die, —for he hath sought to seduce thee from Yahweh thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of servants.

11 Tout Israël entendra et craindra, et il ne commettra plus de méchanceté comme celle-là au milieu de vous.

And, all Israel, shall hear and fear, —and shall not again do according to this wickedness in thy midst.

12 Si tu apprends, au sujet d'une de tes villes, que Yahvé, ton Dieu, te donne pour y habiter, que

When thou shalt hear—in one of thy cities which Yahweh thy God is giving unto thee to dwell there—saying:

13 certains méchants sont sortis du milieu de toi et ont entraîné les habitants de leur ville, en disant: « Allons servir d'autres dieux », que tu n'as pas connus,

There have gone forth men sons of the Abandoned One, out of thy midst, and have seduced the inhabitants of their city, saying, —Let us go, and serve other gods which ye have not known;

14 alors tu t'informeras, tu enquêteras et tu demanderas avec soin. S'il est vrai, et si la chose est certaine, qu'une telle abomination a été commise au milieu de vous,

and thou shalt enquire, and search out, and ask diligently, —and lo! true—certain, is the thing, this abomination, hath been done, in thy midst,

15 vous frapperez du tranchant de l'épée les habitants de cette ville, et vous la détruirez entièrement, avec tout ce qu'elle contient et son bétail.

then shalt thou smite, the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, devoting it to destruction, and all that is therein and the cattle thereof: with the edge of the sword, —

16 Tu rassembleras tout son butin au milieu de sa rue, et tu brûleras au feu la ville et tout son butin pour Yahvé, ton Dieu. Elle sera à jamais un monceau de ruines. Elle ne sera pas rebâtie.

and all the spoil thereof, shalt thou gather together into the midst of the broadway thereof, and shalt consume with fire the city and all the spoil thereof, every whit, unto Yahweh thy God, —and it shall be a heap unto times age-abiding, it shall be built no more.

17 Rien de ce qui sera dévoré ne s'attachera à ta main, afin que l'Éternel revienne de l'ardeur de sa colère et te fasse miséricorde, qu'il ait pitié de toi et te multiplie, comme il l'a juré à tes pères,

So shall there not cleave to thy hand aught of the devoted thing, —that Yahweh may turn away, from the glow of his anger and grant thee compassion and have compassion upon thee and multiply thee, as he sware unto thy fathers;

18 quand tu écouteras la voix de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, pour observer tous ses commandements que je te prescris aujourd'hui, pour faire ce qui est bien aux yeux de l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

so long as thou shalt hearken unto the voice of Yahweh thy God, to keep all his commandments, which I am commanding thee to-day, —to do what is right in the eyes of Yahweh thy God.
