Daniel 2
1 La deuxième année du règne de Nebucadnetsar, Nebucadnetsar eut des songes; son esprit fut troublé, et le sommeil le quitta.
And in the seconde yeere of the raygne of Nebuchad-nezzar, Nebuchad-nezzar dreamed dreames wherewith his spirite was troubled, and his sleepe was vpon him.
2 Alors le roi ordonna que l'on appelle les magiciens, les enchanteurs, les sorciers et les Chaldéens pour qu'ils racontent au roi ses rêves. Ils entrèrent donc et se tinrent devant le roi.
Then the King commanded to call the inchanters, and the astrologians and the sorcerers, and the Caldeans for to shewe the King his dreames: so they came and stoode before the King.
3 Le roi leur dit: « J'ai fait un rêve, et mon esprit est troublé de connaître ce rêve. »
And the King sayde vnto them, I haue dreamed a dreame, and my spirite was troubled to knowe the dreame.
4 Alors les Chaldéens s'adressèrent au roi en langue syrienne: « O roi, vis éternellement! Raconte le rêve à tes serviteurs, et nous t'en donnerons l'interprétation. »
Then spake the Caldeans to the King in the Aramites language, O King, liue for euer: shewe thy seruants thy dreame, and wee shall shewe the interpretation.
5 Le roi répondit aux Chaldéens: « La chose s'est éloignée de moi. Si vous ne me faites pas connaître le rêve et son interprétation, vous serez taillés en pièces, et vos maisons seront transformées en tas de fumier.
And the King answered and sayd to the Caldeans, The thing is gone from me. If ye will not make me vnderstande the dreame with the interpretation thereof, ye shall be drawen in pieces, and your houses shall be made a iakes.
6 Mais si tu me fais connaître le rêve et son interprétation, tu recevras de moi des dons, des récompenses et de grands honneurs. Montre-moi donc le rêve et son interprétation. »
But if yee declare the dreame and the interpretation thereof, ye shall receyue of me gifts and rewardes, and great honour: therefore shewe me the dreame and the interpretation of it.
7 Ils prirent la parole une seconde fois et dirent: « Que le roi raconte le songe à ses serviteurs, et nous en montrerons l'interprétation. »
They answered againe, and sayde, Let the King shewe his seruantes the dreame, and wee will declare the interpretation thereof.
8 Le roi répondit: « Je sais avec certitude que tu cherches à gagner du temps, car tu vois que la chose s'est éloignée de moi.
Then the King answered, and sayd, I knowe certeinly that ye would gaine the time, because ye see the thing is gone from me.
9 Mais si tu ne me fais pas connaître le rêve, il n'y a qu'une seule loi pour toi, car tu as préparé des paroles mensongères et corrompues pour parler devant moi, jusqu'à ce que la situation change. C'est pourquoi, dis-moi le rêve, et je saurai que tu peux me montrer son interprétation. »
But if ye will not declare mee the dreame, there is but one iudgement for you: for ye haue prepared lying and corrupt wordes, to speake before me till the time bee changed: therefore tell me the dreame, that I may knowe, if yee can declare me the interpretation thereof.
10 Les Chaldéens répondirent au roi et dirent: « Il n'y a pas un homme sur la terre qui puisse montrer l'affaire du roi, car aucun roi, aucun seigneur, aucun chef n'a demandé une telle chose à aucun magicien, aucun enchanteur, aucun Chaldéen.
Then the Caldeans answered before the King, and sayde, There is no man vpon earth that can declare the Kings matter: yea, there is neither king nor prince nor lorde that asked such things at an inchanter or astrologian or Caldean.
11 C'est une chose rare que le roi demande, et il n'y a personne qui puisse la montrer devant le roi, si ce n'est les dieux, dont la demeure n'est pas avec la chair. »
For it is a rare thing that the King requireth, and there is none other that can declare it before the King, except the gods whose dwelling is not with flesh.
12 A cause de cela, le roi était en colère et très furieux, et il ordonna que tous les sages de Babylone soient détruits.
For this cause the king was angrie and in great furie, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babel.
13 Le décret fut donc publié, et les sages devaient être tués. On chercha à faire tuer Daniel et ses compagnons.
And when sentence was giuen, the wise men were slayne: and they sought Daniel and his fellowes to be put to death.
14 Alors Daniel répondit avec conseil et prudence à Arioch, chef des gardes du roi, qui était sorti pour tuer les sages de Babylone.
Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisedome to Arioch the Kings chiefe stewarde, which was gone foorth to put to death the wise men of Babel.
15 Il répondit à Arioch, le chef des gardes du roi: « Pourquoi le décret du roi est-il si urgent? » Et Arioch fit connaître la chose à Daniel.
Yea, he answered and sayde vnto Arioch the kings captaine, Why is the sentence so hastie from the king? Then Arioch declared the thing to Daniel.
16 Daniel entra, et demanda au roi de lui fixer un moment, et de lui montrer l'interprétation.
So Daniel went and desired the king that he woulde giue him leasure and that he woulde shewe the king the interpretation thereof.
17 Alors Daniel alla dans sa maison et fit connaître la chose à Hanania, à Mischaël et à Azaria, ses compagnons:
The Daniel went to his house and shewed the matter to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah his companions,
18 afin qu'ils demandent au Dieu des cieux la grâce de ce secret, pour que Daniel et ses compagnons ne périssent pas avec le reste des sages de Babylone.
That they should beseech the God of heauen for grace in this secrete, that Daniel and his fellowes should not perish with the rest of ye wise men of Babel.
19 Alors le secret fut révélé à Daniel dans une vision pendant la nuit. Alors Daniel bénit le Dieu des cieux.
Then was the secret reueiled vnto Daniel in a vision by night: therefore Daniel praysed the God of heauen.
20 Daniel répondit, « Béni soit le nom de Dieu pour les siècles des siècles; car la sagesse et la puissance lui appartiennent.
And Daniel answered and sayde, The Name of God be praysed for euer and euer: for wisedome and strength are his,
21 Il change les temps et les saisons. Il destitue les rois et établit les rois. Il donne la sagesse aux sages, et la connaissance à ceux qui ont de l'intelligence.
And hee changeth the times and seasons: he taketh away kings: he setteth vp kings: he giueth wisedome vnto the wise, and vnderstanding to those that vnderstand.
22 Il révèle les choses profondes et secrètes. Il sait ce qu'il y a dans les ténèbres, et la lumière habite avec lui.
Hee discouereth the deepe and secrete things: he knoweth what is in darkenes, and the light dwelleth with him.
23 Je te remercie et je te loue, O Dieu de mes pères, qui m'ont donné la sagesse et la puissance, et m'ont maintenant fait connaître ce que nous désirions de vous; car vous nous avez fait part de l'affaire du roi. »
I thanke thee and prayse thee, O thou God of my fathers, that thou hast giuen mee wisedome and strength, and hast shewed me nowe the thing that wee desired of thee: for thou hast declared vnto vs the kings matter.
24 Daniel alla donc trouver Arioch, que le roi avait chargé de détruire les sages de Babylone. Il alla lui dire ceci: « Ne détruis pas les sages de Babylone. Fais-moi entrer devant le roi, et je montrerai au roi l'interprétation. »
Therefore Daniel went vnto Arioch, whome the King had ordeyned to destroy the wise men of Babel: he went and sayde thus vnto him, Destroy not the wise men of Babel, but bring me before the King, and I will declare vnto the King the interpretation.
25 Alors Arioch fit venir Daniel en hâte devant le roi, et lui dit ceci: « J'ai trouvé un homme parmi les enfants de la captivité de Juda qui fera connaître au roi l'interprétation. »
Then Arioch brought Daniel before the King in all haste, and sayd thus vnto him, I haue found a man of the children of Iudah that were brought captiues, that will declare vnto the King the interpretation.
26 Le roi prit la parole et dit à Daniel, qui s'appelait Belteshazzar: « Peux-tu me faire connaître le rêve que j'ai vu et son interprétation? »
Then answered the King, and sayde vnto Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to shew me the dreame, which I haue seene, and the interpretation thereof?
27 Daniel prit la parole devant le roi et dit: « Le secret que le roi a demandé ne peut être révélé au roi par des sages, des enchanteurs, des magiciens ou des devins;
Daniel answered in the presence of the King, and sayd, The secret which the King hath demanded, can neither the wise, the astrologians, the inchanters, nor the southsayers declare vnto the King.
28 mais il y a dans les cieux un Dieu qui révèle les secrets, et il a fait connaître au roi Nebucadnetsar ce qui arrivera dans la suite des temps. Voici ton rêve et les visions de ta tête sur ton lit:
But there is a God in heauen that reueileth secrets, and sheweth the King Nebuchad-nezzar what shall bee in the latter dayes. Thy dreame, and the things which thou hast seene in thine heade vpon thy bed, is this.
29 « Quant à toi, ô roi, tes pensées sont venues sur ta couche, ce qui doit arriver après; et celui qui révèle les secrets t'a fait connaître ce qui arrivera.
O King, when thou wast in thy bedde, thoughts came into thy mind, what should come to passe hereafter, and he that reueyleth secretes, telleth thee, what shall come.
30 Quant à moi, ce secret ne m'est pas révélé à cause d'une sagesse que j'aurais plus qu'aucun vivant, mais dans le but que l'interprétation soit connue du roi, et que tu puisses connaître les pensées de ton cœur.
As for me, this secret is not shewed mee for any wisedome that I haue, more then any other liuing, but onely to shewe the King the interpretation, and that thou mightest knowe the thoughts of thine heart.
31 « Toi, ô roi, tu as vu, et voici, une grande image. Cette image, qui était puissante et dont l'éclat était excellent, se tenait devant toi, et son aspect était terrifiant.
O King, thou sawest, and beholde, there was a great image: this great image whose glory was so excellent, stood before thee, and the forme thereof was terrible.
32 Cette statue avait une tête d'or fin, une poitrine et des bras d'argent, un ventre et des cuisses d'airain,
This images head was of fine golde, his breast and his armes of siluer, his bellie and his thighs of brasse,
33 des jambes de fer, des pieds en partie de fer et en partie d'argile.
His legges of yron, and his feete were part of yron, and part of clay.
34 Tu as vu jusqu'à ce qu'une pierre taillée sans main frappe la statue sur ses pieds de fer et d'argile, et les mette en pièces.
Thou beheldest it til a stone was cut without hands, which smote the image vpon his feete, that were of yron and clay, and brake them to pieces.
35 Alors le fer, l'argile, l'airain, l'argent et l'or se brisèrent ensemble, et devinrent comme la balle des aires de battage d'été. Le vent les emporta, et il n'y eut plus de place pour eux. La pierre qui avait frappé la statue devint une grande montagne et remplit toute la terre.
Then was the yron, the clay, the brasse, the siluer and the golde broken all together, and became like the chaffe of the sommer floures, and the winde caryed them away, that no place was founde for them: and the stone that smote the image, became a great mountaine, and filled the whole earth.
36 Voici le songe, et nous allons en donner l'interprétation devant le roi.
This is the dreame, and we will declare before the King the interpretation thereof.
37 Toi, ô roi, tu es le roi des rois, celui à qui le Dieu des cieux a donné le règne, la puissance, la force et la gloire.
O King, thou art a king of Kings: for the God of heauen hath giuen thee a kingdome, power, and strength, and glorie.
38 Partout où habitent les enfants des hommes, il a remis entre tes mains les animaux des champs et les oiseaux du ciel, et il t'a fait dominer sur eux tous. Tu es la tête d'or.
And in all places where the children of men dwell, the beasts of the fielde, and the foules of the heauen hath he giuen into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler ouer them al: thou art this heade of golde.
39 Après toi, il s'élèvera un autre royaume qui te sera inférieur, et un troisième royaume d'airain, qui dominera sur toute la terre.
And after thee shall rise another kingdome, inferiour to thee, of siluer, and another third kingdome shalbe of brasse, which shall beare rule ouer all the earth.
40 Le quatrième royaume sera fort comme le fer, car le fer met tout en pièces et soumet tout; et comme le fer qui écrase tout cela, il mettra tout en pièces et écrasera.
And the fourth kingdome shall be strong as yron: for as yron breaketh in pieces, and subdueth all things, and as yron bruiseth all these things, so shall it breake in pieces, and bruise all.
41 Comme tu as vu les pieds et les orteils, en partie d'argile et en partie de fer, ce sera un royaume divisé; mais il y aura en lui de la force du fer, parce que tu as vu le fer mêlé à l'argile.
Where as thou sawest the feete and toes, parte of potters clay, and part of yron: the kingdome shalbe deuided, but there shalbe in it of the strength of the yron, as thou sawest the yron mixt with the clay, and earth.
42 Comme les orteils des pieds étaient en partie de fer et en partie d'argile, ainsi le royaume sera en partie fort et en partie fragile.
And as the toes of the feete were parte of yron, and parte of clay, so shall the kingdome be partly strong, and partly broken.
43 Comme tu as vu le fer mêlé à l'argile, ils se mêleront à la race des hommes, mais ils ne s'attacheront pas les uns aux autres, comme le fer ne se mêle pas à l'argile.
And where as thou sawest yron mixt with clay and earth, they shall mingle themselues with the seede of men: but they shall not ioyne one with another, as yron can not bee mixed with clay.
44 « Dans les jours de ces rois, le Dieu des cieux établira un royaume qui ne sera jamais détruit, et dont la souveraineté ne sera jamais confiée à un autre peuple; mais il brisera et consumera tous ces royaumes, et il subsistera à jamais.
And in the dayes of these Kings, shall the God of heauen set vp a kingdome, which shall neuer be destroyed: and this kingdome shall not be giuen to another people, but it shall breake, and destroy al these kingdomes, and it shall stand for euer.
45 Parce que tu as vu qu'une pierre s'est détachée sans main de la montagne et qu'elle a brisé le fer, le bronze, l'argile, l'argent et l'or, le grand Dieu a fait connaître au roi ce qui arrivera dans la suite. Le rêve est certain, et son interprétation est sûre. »
Where as thou sawest, that the stone was cut of the mountaine without handes, and that it brake in pieces the yron, the brasse, the clay, the siluer, and the golde: so the great God hath shewed the King, what shall come to passe hereafter, and the dreame is true, and the interpretation thereof is sure.
46 Alors le roi Nebucadnetsar tomba sur sa face, se prosterna devant Daniel, et ordonna qu'on lui présente une offrande et des parfums doux.
Then the King Nebuchad-nezzar fell vpon his face, and bowed himselfe vnto Daniel, and commanded that they should offer meate offrings, and sweete odours vnto him.
47 Le roi prit la parole et dit à Daniel: « En vérité, ton Dieu est le Dieu des dieux, le Seigneur des rois et le révélateur des secrets, puisque tu as pu révéler ce secret. »
Also the King answered vnto Daniel, and said, I know of a trueth that your God is a God of gods, and the Lord of Kings, and the reueiler of secrets, seeing thou couldest open this secret.
48 Alors le roi fit de Daniel un grand homme et lui fit beaucoup de dons importants, et il le fit gouverner toute la province de Babylone et être le principal gouverneur de tous les sages de Babylone.
So the King made Daniel a great man, and gaue him many and great giftes. Hee made him gouernour ouer the whole prouince of Babel, and chiefe of the rulers, and aboue all the wise men of Babel.
49 Daniel demanda au roi de nommer Schadrac, Méschac et Abed-Nego pour diriger les affaires de la province de Babylone, mais Daniel était à la porte du roi.
Then Daniel made request to the King, and hee set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego ouer the charge of the prouince of Babel: but Daniel sate in the gate of the King.
