Amos 5
1 Écoutez cette parole que je prends pour une lamentation sur vous, maison d'Israël:
HEAR ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.
2 « La vierge d'Israël est tombée; Elle ne se relèvera plus. Elle est rejetée sur sa terre; il n'y a personne pour la relever. »
The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.
3 Car le Seigneur Yahvé dit: « La ville qui en a sorti mille n'en aura plus que cent, et celui qui est sorti cent fois en laissera dix à la maison d'Israël. »
For thus saith the Lord God; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.
4 Car Yahvé dit à la maison d'Israël: « Cherchez-moi, et vous vivrez;
For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:
5 mais ne cherchez pas Bethel, ni entrer à Gilgal, et ne passe pas à Beersheba; car Gilgal ira certainement en captivité, et Bethel ne sera plus rien.
But seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to nought.
6 Cherchez Yahvé, et vous vivrez, de peur qu'il ne se déchaîne comme un feu dans la maison de Joseph, et il dévorera, et il n'y aura personne pour l'éteindre à Béthel.
Seek the Lord, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Beth-el.
7 Vous qui transformez la justice en absinthe, et jette la justice sur la terre!
Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,
8 Cherchez celui qui a créé les Pléiades et Orion, et transforme l'ombre de la mort en matinée, et rend le jour sombre avec la nuit; qui appelle les eaux de la mer, et les répand sur la surface de la terre, Yahvé est son nom,
Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name:
9 qui amène la destruction soudaine sur les forts, pour que la destruction s'abatte sur la forteresse.
That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.
10 Ils haïssent celui qui réprimande à la porte, et ils ont en horreur celui qui parle sans reproche.
They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.
11 C'est pourquoi, parce que vous piétinez le pauvre et que vous lui prélevez des impôts sur le blé, vous avez construit des maisons en pierre de taille, mais vous n'y habiterez pas. Vous avez planté d'agréables vignobles, mais vous ne boirez pas leur vin.
Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.
12 Car je sais combien sont nombreuses vos offenses, et combien grands sont vos péchés... toi qui affliges les justes, qui acceptent un pot-de-vin, et qui rejettent les nécessiteux dans les tribunaux.
For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.
13 C'est pourquoi une personne prudente se tait dans un tel moment, car c'est un mauvais moment.
Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.
14 Recherchez le bien, et non le mal, pour que vous puissiez vivre; et ainsi Yahvé, le Dieu des Armées, sera avec vous, comme vous le dites.
Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.
15 Haïssez le mal, aimez le bien, et établir la justice dans les tribunaux. Il se peut que Yahvé, le Dieu des Armées, fasse preuve de bienveillance à l'égard du reste de Joseph. »
Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
16 C'est pourquoi Yahvé, le Dieu des armées, l'Éternel, dit: « Les lamentations seront dans tous les grands chemins. On dira dans toutes les rues: « Hélas! Hélas! Ils appelleront le fermier au deuil, et ceux qui sont habiles dans la lamentation aux gémissements.
Therefore the Lord, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.
17 Dans tous les vignobles, il y aura des gémissements, car je passerai par le milieu de toi, dit Yahvé.
And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the Lord.
18 « Malheur à vous qui désirez le jour de Yahvé! Pourquoi attendez-vous le jour de Yahvé? C'est l'obscurité, et non la lumière.
Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light.
19 Comme si un homme fuyait devant un lion, et un ours l'a rencontré; ou il est entré dans la maison et a appuyé sa main sur le mur, et un serpent l'a mordu.
As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
20 Le jour de l'Éternel ne sera-t-il pas ténèbres et non lumière? Même très sombre, et sans aucune luminosité?
Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
21 Je déteste, je méprise vos fêtes, et je ne supporte pas vos assemblées solennelles.
I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.
22 Oui, même si vous m'offrez vos holocaustes et vos offrandes de repas, Je ne les accepterai pas; Je ne regarderai pas non plus les offrandes de paix de vos animaux gras.
Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.
23 Éloigne de moi le bruit de tes chansons! Je n'écouterai pas la musique de vos harpes.
Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.
24 Mais que la justice roule comme les fleuves, et la justice comme un puissant ruisseau.
But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
25 « Avez-vous apporté à moi des sacrifices et des offrandes dans le désert pendant quarante ans, maison d'Israël?
Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
26 Vous avez aussi porté la tente de votre roi et le tabernacle de vos images, l'étoile de votre dieu, que vous vous êtes faite.
But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.
27 C'est pourquoi je vous enverrai en captivité au-delà de Damas, dit l'Éternel, dont le nom est le Dieu des armées.
Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, whose name is The God of hosts.
