Actes 8
1 Saul consentait à sa mort. Une grande persécution s'éleva contre l'assemblée qui était à Jérusalem en ce jour-là. Ils étaient tous dispersés dans les régions de la Judée et de la Samarie, à l'exception des apôtres.
Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the assembly which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.
2 Des hommes pieux enterrèrent Étienne et se lamentèrent sur son sort.
Devout men buried Stephen and lamented greatly over him.
3 Mais Saul ravagea l'assemblée, entrant dans toutes les maisons et traînant hommes et femmes en prison.
But Saul ravaged the assembly, entering into every house and dragged both men and women off to prison.
4 Ceux qui étaient dispersés allaient donc de lieu en lieu prêcher la parole.
Therefore those who were scattered abroad went around preaching the word.
5 Philippe descendit dans la ville de Samarie et leur annonça le Christ.
Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ.
6 La foule écoutait d'un commun accord les paroles de Philippe, lorsqu'elle entendait et voyait les miracles qu'il faisait.
The multitudes listened with one accord to the things that were spoken by Philip when they heard and saw the signs which he did.
7 Car des esprits impurs sortirent de plusieurs de ceux qui en avaient. Ils sortaient en criant d'une voix forte. Beaucoup de paralysés et de boiteux furent guéris.
For unclean spirits came out of many of those who had them. They came out, crying with a loud voice. Many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed.
8 Il y eut une grande joie dans cette ville.
There was great joy in that city.
9 Or, il y avait dans la ville un homme, nommé Simon, qui avait l'habitude de pratiquer la sorcellerie et d'étonner les habitants de Samarie, se faisant passer pour un grand,
But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who used to practice sorcery in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, making himself out to be some great one,
10 et que tous écoutaient, du plus petit au plus grand, en disant: « Cet homme est la grande puissance de Dieu. »
to whom they all listened, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is that great power of God.”
11 Ils l'écoutaient, parce que depuis longtemps il les avait étonnés par ses sortilèges.
They listened to him because for a long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.
12 Mais lorsqu'ils crurent que Philippe annonçait la bonne nouvelle du royaume de Dieu et du nom de Jésus-Christ, ils furent baptisés, hommes et femmes.
But when they believed Philip preaching good news concerning God’s Kingdom and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
13 Simon lui-même crut aussi. Après avoir été baptisé, il poursuivit sa route avec Philippe. Voyant des signes et de grands miracles se produire, il était stupéfait.
Simon himself also believed. Being baptized, he continued with Philip. Seeing signs and great miracles occurring, he was amazed.
14 Les apôtres qui étaient à Jérusalem, ayant appris que la Samarie avait reçu la parole de Dieu, y envoyèrent Pierre et Jean.
Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,
15 Ceux-ci, étant descendus, prièrent pour eux, afin qu'ils reçoivent le Saint-Esprit;
who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit;
16 car il n'était encore tombé sur aucun d'eux. Ils avaient seulement été baptisés au nom de Jésus-Christ.
for as yet he had fallen on none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of Christ Jesus.
17 Alors ils leur imposèrent les mains, et ils reçurent le Saint-Esprit.
Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18 Simon, voyant que le Saint-Esprit était donné par l'imposition des mains des apôtres, leur offrit de l'argent,
Now when Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money,
19 en disant: « Donnez-moi aussi ce pouvoir, afin que quiconque m'impose les mains reçoive le Saint-Esprit. »
saying, “Give me also this power, that whomever I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit.”
20 Mais Pierre lui dit: « Que ton argent périsse avec toi, parce que tu as cru pouvoir obtenir le don de Dieu avec de l'argent!
But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!
21 Tu n'as ni part ni lot dans cette affaire, car ton cœur n'est pas droit devant Dieu.
You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.
22 Repens-toi donc de cela, de ta méchanceté, et demande à Dieu si peut-être la pensée de ton cœur peut t'être pardonnée.
Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.
23 Car je vois que tu es dans le poison de l'amertume et dans la servitude de l'iniquité. »
For I see that you are in the poison of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity.”
24 Simon répondit: « Priez pour moi le Seigneur, afin qu'il ne m'arrive rien de ce que vous avez dit. »
Simon answered, “Pray for me to the Lord, that none of the things which you have spoken happen to me.”
25 Après avoir témoigné et prononcé la parole du Seigneur, ils retournèrent donc à Jérusalem, et prêchèrent la Bonne Nouvelle dans plusieurs villages des Samaritains.
They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the Good News to many villages of the Samaritans.
26 Alors un ange du Seigneur parla à Philippe, en disant: « Lève-toi, et va du côté du midi, sur le chemin qui descend de Jérusalem à Gaza. C'est un désert. »
Then an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise, and go toward the south to the way that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza. This is a desert.”
27 Il se leva et partit. Et voici qu'un homme d'Éthiopie, eunuque de grande autorité sous Candace, reine des Éthiopiens, qui était à la tête de tout son trésor, était venu à Jérusalem pour se prosterner.
He arose and went; and behold, there was a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship.
28 Il s'en retournait, assis dans son char, et lisait le prophète Ésaïe.
He was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.
29 L'Esprit dit à Philippe: « Approche-toi, et attache-toi à ce char. »
The Spirit said to Philip, “Go near, and join yourself to this chariot.”
30 Philippe courut vers lui, l'entendit lire le prophète Ésaïe, et dit: « Comprends-tu ce que tu lis? »
Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
31 Il dit: « Comment le pourrais-je, si personne ne me l'explique? » Il pria Philippe de monter et de s'asseoir avec lui.
He said, “How can I, unless someone explains it to me?” He begged Philip to come up and sit with him.
32 Or, le passage de l'Écriture qu'il lisait était celui-ci, « Il a été conduit comme un mouton à l'abattoir. Comme un agneau qui se tait devant son tondeur, pour qu'il n'ouvre pas sa bouche.
Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter. As a lamb before his shearer is silent, so he does not open his mouth.
33 Dans son humiliation, son jugement a été enlevé. Qui déclarera sa génération? Car sa vie est enlevée de la terre. »
In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away. Who will declare His generation? For his life is taken from the earth.”
34 L'eunuque répondit à Philippe: « De qui le prophète parle-t-il? De lui-même, ou de quelqu'un d'autre? »
The eunuch answered Philip, “Who is the prophet talking about? About himself, or about someone else?”
35 Philippe ouvrit la bouche, et, commençant par cette Écriture, il lui annonça Jésus.
Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached to him about Jesus.
36 Comme ils continuaient leur chemin, ils arrivèrent à de l'eau, et l'eunuque dit: « Voici de l'eau. Qu'est-ce qui m'empêche d'être baptisé? »
As they went on the way, they came to some water; and the eunuch said, “Behold, here is water. What is keeping me from being baptized?”
38 Il ordonna au char de s'arrêter, et ils descendirent tous deux dans l'eau, Philippe et l'eunuque, et il le baptisa.
He commanded the chariot to stand still, and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
39 Lorsqu'ils sortirent de l'eau, l'Esprit du Seigneur emporta Philippe, et l'eunuque ne le vit plus, car il s'en alla tout joyeux.
When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing.
40 Mais Philippe fut trouvé à Azot. En passant, il prêcha la bonne nouvelle dans toutes les villes, jusqu'à ce qu'il arrive à Césarée.
But Philip was found at Azotus. Passing through, he preached the Good News to all the cities until he came to Caesarea.
