Actes 27
1 Lorsqu'il fut décidé que nous ferions voile vers l'Italie, ils livrèrent Paul et quelques autres prisonniers à un centurion nommé Julius, de la troupe d'Auguste.
And when it was determined that we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners to a centurion named Julius, of the Augustan band.
2 Nous nous embarquâmes sur un navire d'Adramyttium, qui allait faire voile vers des lieux situés sur la côte d'Asie, Aristarque, Macédonien de Thessalonique, étant avec nous.
And embarking in a ship of Adramyttium, which was about to sail unto the places on the coast of Asia, we put to sea, Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.
3 Le lendemain, nous abordâmes à Sidon. Julius traita Paul avec bonté, et lui donna la permission d'aller chez ses amis pour se rafraîchir.
And the next day we touched at Sidon: and Julius treated Paul kindly, and gave him leave to go unto his friends and refresh himself.
4 De là, nous prîmes la mer, sous le vent de l'île de Chypre, car les vents étaient contraires.
And putting to sea from thence, we sailed under the lee of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.
5 Après avoir traversé la mer qui est au large de la Cilicie et de la Pamphylie, nous arrivâmes à Myra, ville de Lycie.
And when we had sailed across the sea which is off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, [a city] of Lycia.
6 Là, le centurion trouva un navire d'Alexandrie qui faisait route vers l'Italie, et il nous fit monter à bord.
And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy; and he put us therein.
7 Après avoir navigué lentement pendant plusieurs jours, et être arrivés avec peine en face de Cnide, le vent ne nous permettant pas d'aller plus loin, nous naviguâmes sous le vent de la Crète, en face de Salmone.
And when we had sailed slowly many days, and were come with difficulty over against Cnidus, the wind not further suffering us, we sailed under the lee of Crete, over against Salmone;
8 Nous le longeâmes avec peine, et nous arrivâmes à un endroit appelé Havres de plaisance, près de la ville de Lasea.
and with difficulty coasting along it we came unto a certain place called Fair Havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea.
9 Comme beaucoup de temps s'était écoulé et que le voyage était devenu dangereux, parce que le jeûne était déjà passé, Paul les avertit
And when much time was spent, and the voyage was now dangerous, because the Fast was now already gone by, Paul admonished them,
10 et leur dit: « Messieurs, je vois que le voyage se fera avec des dommages et des pertes considérables, non seulement pour la cargaison et le navire, mais aussi pour nos vies. »
and said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the lading and the ship, but also of our lives.
11 Mais le centurion prêta plus d'attention au capitaine et au propriétaire du navire qu'aux paroles de Paul.
But the centurion gave more heed to the master and to the owner of the ship, than to those things which were spoken by Paul.
12 Comme le port n'était pas propice à l'hivernage, la plupart des gens conseillèrent de prendre la mer à partir de là, si tant est qu'ils puissent atteindre Phœnix et y passer l'hiver, qui est un port de Crète, regardant vers le sud-ouest et le nord-ouest.
And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to put to sea from thence, if by any means they could reach Phoenix, and winter [there]; [which is] a haven of Crete, looking north-east and south-east.
13 Lorsque le vent du sud souffla doucement, supposant qu'ils avaient atteint leur but, ils levèrent l'ancre et naviguèrent le long de la Crète, près du rivage.
And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close in shore.
14 Mais bientôt, un vent de tempête s'abattit sur le rivage, qu'on appelle Euroclydon.
But after no long time there beat down from it a tempestuous wind, which is called Euraquilo:
15 Le navire étant pris et ne pouvant faire face au vent, nous lui cédâmes et fûmes entraînés.
and when the ship was caught, and could not face the wind, we gave way [to it], and were driven.
16 Courant sous le vent d'une petite île appelée Clauda, nous avons pu, avec difficulté, arrimer le bateau.
And running under the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat:
17 Après l'avoir hissé, ils ont utilisé des câbles pour aider à renforcer le navire. Craignant de s'échouer sur les bancs de sable de Syrtis, ils abaissèrent l'ancre de mer et se laissèrent ainsi entraîner.
and when they had hoisted it up, they used helps, under-girding the ship; and, fearing lest they should be cast upon the Syrtis, they lowered the gear, and so were driven.
18 Comme nous étions très éprouvés par la tempête, le lendemain, ils commencèrent à jeter des objets par-dessus bord.
And as we laboured exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw [the freight] overboard;
19 Le troisième jour, ils jetèrent de leurs propres mains les agrès du navire.
and the third day they cast out with their own hands the tackling of the ship.
20 Alors que, pendant plusieurs jours, ni le soleil ni les étoiles n'avaient brillé sur nous, et qu'aucune petite tempête ne nous pressait, tout espoir d'être sauvés s'envolait.
And when neither sun nor stars shone upon [us] for many days, and no small tempest lay on [us], all hope that we should be saved was now taken away.
21 Après qu'ils eurent été longtemps sans manger, Paul se leva au milieu d'eux et dit: « Messieurs, vous auriez dû m'écouter, et ne pas partir de Crète, pour avoir cette blessure et cette perte.
And when they had been long without food, then Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have set sail from Crete, and have gotten this injury and loss.
22 Maintenant je vous exhorte à reprendre courage, car il n'y aura pas de perte de vie parmi vous, mais seulement celle du navire.
And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of life among you, but [only] of the ship.
23 Car cette nuit s'est tenu près de moi un ange, appartenant au Dieu dont je suis et que je sers,
For there stood by me this night an angel of the God whose I am, whom also I serve,
24 et qui m'a dit: « Ne crains pas, Paul. Tu dois te présenter devant César. Et voici que Dieu t'a accordé tous ceux qui naviguent avec toi.
saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must stand before Caesar: and lo, God hath granted thee all them that sail with thee.
25 C'est pourquoi, messieurs, réjouissez-vous! Car je crois en Dieu, et il en sera comme il m'a été dit.
Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even so as it hath been spoken unto me.
26 Mais il faut que nous échouions sur une île. »
Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.
27 Mais la quatorzième nuit étant arrivée, comme nous étions ballottés dans la mer Adriatique, vers minuit les marins supposèrent qu'ils approchaient de quelque terre.
But when the fourteenth night was come, as we were driven to and fro in the [sea of] Adria, about midnight the sailors surmised that they were drawing near to some country;
28 Ils sondèrent et trouvèrent vingt brasses. Un peu plus tard, ils sondèrent de nouveau et trouvèrent quinze brasses.
and they sounded, and found twenty fathoms: and after a little space, they sounded again, and found fifteen fathoms.
29 Craignant que nous ne nous échouions sur un terrain rocheux, ils lâchèrent quatre ancres de la poupe, et souhaitèrent qu'il fasse jour.
And fearing lest haply we should be cast ashore on rocky ground, they let go four anchors from the stern, and wished for the day.
30 Comme les matelots cherchaient à s'enfuir du navire et qu'ils avaient descendu la barque dans la mer, en prétendant qu'ils allaient jeter des ancres par la proue,
And as the sailors were seeking to flee out of the ship, and had lowered the boat into the sea, under colour as though they would lay out anchors from the foreship,
31 Paul dit au centenier et aux soldats: « Si ceux-ci ne restent pas dans le navire, vous ne pouvez pas être sauvés. »
Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.
32 Alors les soldats coupèrent les cordages de la barque et la laissèrent tomber.
Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the boat, and let her fall off.
33 Comme le jour approchait, Paul les pria de prendre de la nourriture, en disant: « C'est aujourd'hui le quatorzième jour que vous attendez et que vous jeûnez, sans avoir rien pris.
And while the day was coming on, Paul besought them all to take some food, saying, This day is the fourteenth day that ye wait and continue fasting, having taken nothing.
34 C'est pourquoi je vous prie de prendre de la nourriture, car c'est pour votre salut, car il ne périra pas un cheveu de vos têtes. »
Wherefore I beseech you to take some food: for this is for your safety: for there shall not a hair perish from the head of any of you.
35 Lorsqu'il eut dit cela et pris du pain, il rendit grâces à Dieu en présence de tous; puis il le rompit et se mit à manger.
And when he had said this, and had taken bread, he gave thanks to God in the presence of all: and he brake it, and began to eat.
36 Alors tous se réjouirent, et ils prirent aussi de la nourriture.
Then were they all of good cheer, and themselves also took food.
37 En tout, nous étions deux cent soixante-seize personnes sur le navire.
And we were in all in the ship two hundred threescore and sixteen souls.
38 Lorsqu'ils eurent suffisamment mangé, ils allégèrent le navire et jetèrent le blé à la mer.
And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, throwing out the wheat into the sea.
39 Le jour venu, ils ne reconnurent pas la terre, mais ils remarquèrent une certaine baie avec une plage, et ils décidèrent d'essayer d'y conduire le navire.
And when it was day, they knew not the land: but they perceived a certain bay with a beach, and they took counsel whether they could drive the ship upon it.
40 Jetant les ancres, ils les laissèrent dans la mer, en même temps qu'ils détachaient les cordes du gouvernail. Ils hissent la voile d'avant au vent et se dirigent vers la plage.
And casting off the anchors, they left them in the sea, at the same time loosing the bands of the rudders; and hoisting up the foresail to the wind, they made for the beach.
41 Mais arrivant à un endroit où deux mers se rencontraient, ils firent échouer le navire. La proue frappa et resta immobile, mais la poupe commença à se briser par la violence des vagues.
But lighting upon a place where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground; and the foreship struck and remained unmoveable, but the stern began to break up by the violence [of the waves].
42 Le conseil des soldats était de tuer les prisonniers, afin qu'aucun d'eux ne pût se sauver à la nage.
And the soldiers’ counsel was to kill the prisoners, lest any [of them] should swim out, and escape.
43 Mais le centurion, voulant sauver Paul, les détourna de leur dessein, et ordonna que ceux qui savaient nager se jetassent les premiers par-dessus bord pour gagner la terre ferme;
But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, stayed them from their purpose; and commanded that they which could swim should cast themselves overboard, and get first to the land:
44 et que les autres suivissent, les uns sur des planches et les autres sur d'autres objets du navire. Tous se sauvèrent ainsi jusqu'à la terre ferme.
and the rest, some on planks, and some on [other] things from the ship. And so it came to pass, that they all escaped safe to the land.
