Actes 21
1 Après les avoir quittés et avoir mis à la voile, nous nous dirigeâmes droit vers Cos, puis le lendemain vers Rhodes, et de là vers Patara.
And it came to pass, that after we were separated from them, and had lanched, we came with a straight course to Coos, and the [day] following to Rhodes, and from thence to Patara:
2 Ayant trouvé un navire qui faisait la traversée vers la Phénicie, nous y montâmes et fîmes voile.
And finding a ship sailing over to Phenicia, we went aboard, and set forth.
3 Après avoir aperçu l'île de Chypre, que nous laissâmes sur notre gauche, nous fîmes voile vers la Syrie, et nous débarquâmes à Tyr, car le navire s'y trouvait pour décharger sa cargaison.
Now when we had discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left hand, and sailed into Syria, and landed at Tyre: for there the ship was to unlade her burden.
4 Ayant trouvé des disciples, nous restâmes là sept jours. Ceux-ci disaient à Paul, par l'Esprit, qu'il ne devait pas monter à Jérusalem.
And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.
5 Lorsque ces jours furent écoulés, nous partîmes et nous nous mîmes en route. Tous, avec femmes et enfants, nous accompagnèrent jusqu'à ce que nous fussions sortis de la ville. Agenouillés sur la plage, nous avons prié.
And when we had accomplished those days, we departed, and proceeded on our way; and they all conducted us with wives and children, till [we were] out of the city; and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed.
6 Après nous être dit au revoir, nous sommes montés à bord du navire, et ils sont retournés chez eux.
And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship; and they returned home again.
7 Lorsque nous eûmes terminé le voyage de Tyr, nous arrivâmes à Ptolémaïs. Nous saluâmes les frères et restâmes avec eux un jour.
And when we had finished [our] course from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.
8 Le lendemain, nous qui étions les compagnons de Paul, nous partîmes et arrivâmes à Césarée. Nous entrâmes dans la maison de Philippe l'évangéliste, qui était l'un des sept, et nous restâmes avec lui.
And the next [day] we that were of Paul's company departed, and came to Cesarea; and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was [one] of the seven; and abode with him.
9 Or, cet homme avait quatre filles vierges qui prophétisaient.
And the same man had four daughters, virgins, who prophesied.
10 Comme nous étions là depuis quelques jours, un prophète nommé Agabus descendit de Judée.
And as we tarried [there] many days, there came down from Judea a certain prophet, named Agabus.
11 S'approchant de nous et prenant la ceinture de Paul, il se lia les pieds et les mains, et dit: « Le Saint-Esprit dit: Les Juifs de Jérusalem lieront l'homme à qui appartient cette ceinture, et le livreront entre les mains des païens. »
And when he had come to us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Spirit, So will the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and will deliver [him] into the hands of the Gentiles.
12 Lorsque nous entendîmes ces choses, nous le suppliâmes, ainsi que les habitants de ce lieu, de ne pas monter à Jérusalem.
And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem.
13 Paul répondit: « Que faites-vous, vous pleurez et me brisez le cœur? Car je suis prêt non seulement à être lié, mais encore à mourir à Jérusalem pour le nom du Seigneur Jésus. »
Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep, and to break my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.
14 Comme il ne voulait pas se laisser convaincre, nous avons cessé de dire: « Que la volonté du Seigneur soit faite. »
And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done.
15 Après ces jours-là, nous prîmes nos bagages et montâmes à Jérusalem.
And after those days we took up our furniture, and went up to Jerusalem.
16 Quelques-uns des disciples de Césarée nous accompagnèrent, ainsi qu'un certain Mnason, de Chypre, disciple de la première heure, chez qui nous devions loger.
There went with us also [certain] of the disciples of Cesarea, and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.
17 Lorsque nous fûmes arrivés à Jérusalem, les frères nous reçurent avec joie.
And when we had come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.
18 Le lendemain, Paul se rendit avec nous chez Jacques, et tous les anciens étaient présents.
And the [day] following Paul went in with us to James: and all the elders were present.
19 Après les avoir salués, il raconta une à une les choses que Dieu avait opérées parmi les païens par son ministère.
And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.
20 Ceux-ci, après l'avoir entendu, glorifièrent Dieu. Ils lui dirent: « Tu vois, frère, qu'il y a parmi les Juifs des milliers de croyants, et tous sont zélés pour la loi.
And when they heard [it], they glorified the Lord, and said to him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are who believe; and they are all zealous of the law:
21 On a appris à ton sujet que tu enseignes à tous les Juifs qui sont parmi les païens à renoncer à Moïse, en leur disant de ne pas circoncire leurs enfants et de ne pas suivre les coutumes.
And they are informed concerning thee, that thou teachest all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying, That they ought not to circumcise [their] children, neither to walk after the customs.
22 Que faire alors? L'assemblée doit certainement se réunir, car ils apprendront que tu es venu.
What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come.
23 Faites donc ce que nous vous disons. Nous avons quatre hommes qui ont fait un vœu.
Do therefore this that we say to thee: we have four men who have a vow on them;
24 Prends-les et purifie-toi avec eux, et paie pour eux leurs frais, afin qu'ils se rasent la tête. Tous sauront alors qu'il n'y a pas de vérité dans les choses qu'on leur a racontées à ton sujet, mais que toi aussi tu marches en observant la loi.
Take them, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave [their] heads: and all may know that those things of which they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but [that] thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.
25 Mais pour ce qui est des païens qui ont cru, nous avons écrit notre décision qu'ils ne doivent rien observer de tel, si ce n'est qu'ils doivent se garder des aliments offerts aux idoles, du sang, des objets étranglés et de l'impudicité. »
As concerning the Gentiles who believe, we have written [and] concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from [things] offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from lewdness.
26 Alors Paul prit les hommes, se purifia le lendemain, et entra avec eux dans le temple, annonçant l'accomplissement des jours de purification, jusqu'à ce que l'offrande ait été présentée pour chacun d'eux.
Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them, entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification, until an offering should be offered for every one of them.
27 Lorsque les sept jours furent presque écoulés, les Juifs d'Asie, l'ayant vu dans le temple, soulevèrent toute la foule et lui imposèrent les mains,
And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews who were from Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands on him,
28 en s'écriant: « Hommes d'Israël, au secours! Voici l'homme qui enseigne partout à tous les hommes contre le peuple, contre la loi et contre ce lieu. De plus, il a introduit des Grecs dans le temple et a souillé ce lieu saint! »
Crying out, Men of Israel, help. This is the man that teacheth all [men] every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further, hath brought Greeks also into the temple; and hath polluted this holy place.
29 Car ils avaient vu Trophime, l'Éphésien, avec lui dans la ville, et ils supposaient que Paul l'avait fait entrer dans le temple.
(For they had seen before with him in the city, Trophimus, an Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)
30 Toute la ville était émue et le peuple accourait. Ils se saisirent de Paul et le traînèrent hors du temple. Aussitôt, les portes furent fermées.
And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took Paul and drew him out of the temple. And forthwith the doors were shut.
31 Comme ils cherchaient à le tuer, la nouvelle monta au commandant du régiment que tout Jérusalem était en émoi.
And as they went about to kill him, tidings came to the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.
32 Aussitôt, il prit des soldats et des centurions et courut vers eux. Ceux-ci, voyant le tribun et les soldats, cessèrent de battre Paul.
Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down to them. And when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating Paul.
33 Alors le tribun s'approcha, l'arrêta, ordonna de le lier avec deux chaînes, et demanda qui il était et ce qu'il avait fait.
Then the chief captain came near and took him, and commanded [him] to be bound with two chains: and inquired who he was, and what he had done.
34 Les uns criaient une chose et les autres une autre, parmi la foule. Comme il ne pouvait pas savoir la vérité à cause du bruit, il ordonna qu'on l'emmène dans les baraquements.
And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle.
35 Lorsqu'il arriva à l'escalier, il fut porté par les soldats, à cause de la violence de la foule;
And when he came upon the stairs, so it was that he was borne by the soldiers, for the violence of the people.
36 car la multitude du peuple le suivait en criant: « Lâchez-le! »
For the multitude of the people followed, crying, Away with him.
37 Comme Paul était sur le point d'être conduit dans les baraquements, il demanda au commandant: « Puis-je te parler? » Il dit: « Connais-tu le grec?
And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said to the chief captain, May I speak to thee? Who said, Canst thou speak Greek?
38 N'es-tu donc pas l'Égyptien qui, avant ces jours, a excité à la sédition et conduit au désert les quatre mille hommes des Assassins? ".
Art not thou that Egyptian, who before these days madest an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?
39 Mais Paul dit: « Je suis un Juif de Tarse en Cilicie, citoyen d'une ville qui n'est pas insignifiante. Je vous en prie, permettez-moi de parler au peuple. »
But Paul said, I am a man [who am] a Jew of Tarsus, [a city] of Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and I beseech thee suffer me to speak to the people.
40 Après lui en avoir donné la permission, Paul, debout sur l'escalier, fit signe de la main au peuple. Comme il y avait un grand silence, il leur parla en langue hébraïque, en disant,
And when he had given him license, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand to the people. And when there was made entire silence, he spoke to [them] in the Hebrew language, saying,
