Actes 18
1 Après cela, Paul partit d'Athènes et se rendit à Corinthe.
After these things, Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
2 Il trouva un Juif nommé Aquila, originaire du Pont, qui venait d'arriver d'Italie avec sa femme Priscille, car Claude avait ordonné à tous les Juifs de quitter Rome. Il vint chez eux,
And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome) and [he] came to them.
3 et, comme il exerçait le même métier, il habitait avec eux et travaillait, car ils étaient fabricants de tentes.
And because he was of the same occupation, he abode with them, and wrought (for by their occupation they were tent-makers)
4 Il faisait des discours dans la synagogue tous les sabbats et persuadait Juifs et Grecs.
And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
5 Lorsque Silas et Timothée furent descendus de Macédoine, Paul, poussé par l'Esprit, témoigna aux Juifs que Jésus était le Christ.
And when Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in spirit, and testified to the Jews, [that] Jesus [was] Christ.
6 Comme ils s'opposaient à lui et blasphémaient, il secoua ses vêtements et leur dit: « Que votre sang retombe sur vos têtes! Je suis pur. Désormais, j'irai vers les païens! »
And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook [his] raiment, and said to them, Your blood [be] upon your own heads: I [am] clean: from henceforth I will go to the Gentiles.
7 Il partit de là et entra dans la maison d'un homme nommé Justus, adorateur de Dieu, dont la maison était voisine de la synagogue.
And he departed thence, and entered into the house of a certain man named Justus, [one] that worshiped God, whose house joined close to the synagogue.
8 Crispus, le chef de la synagogue, crut au Seigneur avec toute sa maison. Beaucoup de Corinthiens, après avoir entendu cela, crurent et furent baptisés.
And Crispus the chief ruler of the synagogue believed on the Lord with all his house: and many of the Corinthians hearing, believed, and were baptized.
9 Le Seigneur dit à Paul, la nuit, dans une vision: « Ne crains pas, mais parle et ne te tais pas;
Then the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
10 car je suis avec toi, et personne ne t'attaquera pour te faire du mal, car j'ai beaucoup de monde dans cette ville. »
For I am with thee, and no man shall lay hands on thee, to hurt thee: for I have many people in this city.
11 Il demeura là un an et six mois, enseignant la parole de Dieu au milieu d'eux.
And he continued [there] a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
12 Mais, lorsque Gallion fut proconsul d'Achaïe, les Juifs, d'un commun accord, se soulevèrent contre Paul et l'amenèrent devant le tribunal,
And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment-seat,
13 en disant: « Cet homme persuade les hommes d'adorer Dieu contrairement à la loi. »
Saying, This [man] persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.
14 Comme Paul allait ouvrir la bouche, Gallion dit aux Juifs: « S'il s'agissait en effet d'une affaire de mal ou de crime, vous les Juifs, il serait raisonnable que je vous supporte;
And when Paul was now about to open [his] mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong, or hainous crime, O [ye] Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:
15 mais s'il s'agit de questions de mots et de noms et de votre propre loi, regardez vous-mêmes. Car je ne veux pas être juge de ces questions. »
But if it is a question of words and names, and [of] your law, look ye [to it]: for I will be no judge of such [matters].
16 Il les chassa donc du tribunal.
And he drove them from the judgment-seat.
17 Alors tous les Grecs se saisirent de Sosthène, le chef de la synagogue, et le battirent devant le tribunal. Gallio ne se souciait d'aucune de ces choses.
Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat [him] before the judgment-seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.
18 Paul, ayant séjourné encore plusieurs jours après cela, prit congé des frères, et s'embarqua de là pour la Syrie, avec Priscille et Aquila. Il se rasa la tête à Cenchrées, car il avait fait un vœu.
And Paul [after this] tarried [there] yet a good while, and took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn [his] head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.
19 Il arriva à Éphèse, où il les laissa, mais il entra lui-même dans la synagogue et discuta avec les Juifs.
And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.
20 Lorsqu'ils lui demandèrent de rester plus longtemps avec eux, il refusa;
When they desired [him] to tarry longer time with them, he consented not:
21 mais, prenant congé d'eux, il dit: « Je dois absolument célébrer la fête qui vient à Jérusalem, mais je reviendrai chez vous si Dieu le veut. » Puis il partit d'Éphèse.
But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return to you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
22 Après avoir débarqué à Césarée, il monta et salua l'assemblée, puis il descendit à Antioche.
And when he had landed at Cesarea, and gone up and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.
23 Après y avoir passé quelque temps, il partit et traversa la région de la Galatie et de la Phrygie, pour établir tous les disciples.
And after he had spent some time [there], he departed and went over [all] the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
24 Or, un Juif nommé Apollos, de race alexandrine, homme éloquent, vint à Éphèse. Il était versé dans les Écritures.
And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, [and] mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
25 Cet homme avait été instruit dans la voie du Seigneur; et, fervent d'esprit, il parlait et enseignait avec exactitude les choses concernant Jésus, bien qu'il ne connût que le baptême de Jean.
This man was instructed in the way of the Lord: and being fervent in the spirit, he spoke and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
26 Il se mit à parler avec assurance dans la synagogue. Mais Priscille et Aquila, l'ayant entendu, le prirent à part et lui expliquèrent plus exactement la voie de Dieu.
And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: Whom, when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him to [them], and expounded to him the way of God more perfectly.
27 Lorsqu'il eut décidé de passer en Achaïe, les frères l'encouragèrent, et ils écrivirent aux disciples de le recevoir. Lorsqu'il fut arrivé, il aida beaucoup ceux qui avaient cru par la grâce;
And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he had come, helped them much who had believed through grace.
28 car il réfutait avec force les Juifs, démontrant publiquement par les Écritures que Jésus était le Christ.
For he mightily convinced the Jews, [and that] publicly, showing by the scriptures, that Jesus was Christ.
