2 Samuel 24
1 La colère de Yahvé s'enflamma de nouveau contre Israël, et il poussa David contre eux, en disant: « Va, fais le compte d'Israël et de Juda. »
And the anger of Jehovah addeth to burn against Israel, and [an adversary] moveth David about them, saying, 'Go, number Israel and Judah.'
2 Le roi dit à Joab, chef de l'armée, qui était avec lui: « Maintenant, va et viens dans toutes les tribus d'Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersheba, et compte le peuple, afin que je connaisse la somme du peuple. »
And the king saith unto Joab, head of the host that [is] with him, 'Go to and fro, I pray thee, through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, and inspect ye the people — and I have known the number of the people.'
3 Joab dit au roi: « Que Yahvé, ton Dieu, ajoute maintenant cent fois au peuple, quel que soit son nombre, et que les yeux de mon seigneur le roi le voient. Mais pourquoi mon seigneur le roi se réjouit-il de cette chose? »
And Joab saith unto the king, 'Yea, Jehovah thy God doth add unto the people, as they are, a hundred times, and the eyes of my lord the king are seeing; and my lord the king, why is he desirous of this thing?'
4 Néanmoins, la parole du roi l'emporta sur Joab et sur les chefs de l'armée. Joab et les chefs de l'armée sortirent de la présence du roi pour compter le peuple d'Israël.
And the word of the king is severe towards Joab, and against the heads of the force, and Joab goeth out, and the heads of the force, [from] before the king to inspect the people, even Israel;
5 Ils passèrent le Jourdain et campèrent à Aroër, à droite de la ville qui est au milieu de la vallée de Gad, et jusqu'à Jazer;
and they pass over the Jordan, and encamp in Aroer, on the right of the city that [is] in the midst of the brook of Gad, and unto Jazer,
6 puis ils vinrent en Galaad et au pays de Tahtim Hodshi; ils vinrent à Dan Jaan et contournèrent Sidon,
and they come in to Gilead, and unto the land of Tahtim-Hodshi, and they come in to Dan-Jaan, and round about unto Zidon,
7 ils arrivèrent à la forteresse de Tyr et à toutes les villes des Héviens et des Cananéens, et ils sortirent au sud de Juda, à Beer Schéba.
and they come in to the fortress of Tyre, and all the cities of the Hivite, and of the Canaanite, and go out unto the south of Judah, to Beer-Sheba.
8 Après avoir parcouru tout le pays, ils arrivèrent à Jérusalem au bout de neuf mois et vingt jours.
And they go to and fro through all the land, and come in at the end of nine months and twenty days to Jerusalem,
9 Joab remit au roi le compte du peuple. Il y avait en Israël huit cent mille hommes vaillants tirant l'épée, et en Juda cinq cent mille hommes.
and Joab giveth the account of the inspection of the people unto the king, and Israel is eight hundred thousand men of valour, drawing sword, and the men of Judah five hundred thousand men.
10 Le cœur de David le frappa après qu'il eut compté le peuple. David dit à Yahvé: « J'ai beaucoup péché par ce que j'ai fait. Mais maintenant, Yahvé, efface, je t'en prie, l'iniquité de ton serviteur, car j'ai fait une grande folie. »
And the heart of David smiteth him, after that he hath numbered the people, and David saith unto Jehovah, 'I have sinned greatly in that which I have done, and now, O Jehovah, cause to pass away, I pray Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant, for I have acted very foolishly.'
11 Lorsque David se leva le matin, la parole de Yahvé fut adressée au prophète Gad, le voyant de David, en ces termes:
And David riseth in the morning, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Gad the prophet, seer of David, saying,
12 « Va dire à David: « Yahvé dit: Je te propose trois choses. Choisis l'une d'elles, que je te l'accorde »".
'Go, and thou hast spoken unto David, Thus said Jehovah: Three — I am lifting up for thee, choose thee one of them, and I do [it] to thee.'
13 Gad se rendit auprès de David et lui dit: « Est-ce que sept années de famine t'arriveront dans ton pays? Ou bien fuiras-tu trois mois devant tes ennemis pendant qu'ils te poursuivent? Ou bien y aura-t-il trois jours de peste dans ton pays? Réponds maintenant, et considère quelle réponse je ferai à celui qui m'a envoyé. »
And Gad cometh in unto David, and declareth to him, and saith to him, 'Do seven years of famine come in to thee in thy land? or three months art thou fleeing before thine adversary — and he pursuing thee? or are three days' pestilence in thy land? now, know and see what word I take back to Him sending me.'
14 David dit à Gad: « Je suis dans la détresse. Tombons maintenant dans la main de Yahvé, car sa miséricorde est grande. Que je ne tombe pas dans la main de l'homme. »
And David saith unto Gad, 'I have great distress, let us fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Jehovah, for many [are] His mercies, and into the hand of man let me not fall.'
15 Et l'Éternel envoya la peste sur Israël, depuis le matin jusqu'à l'heure fixée, et il mourut soixante-dix mille hommes du peuple, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersheba.
And Jehovah giveth a pestilence on Israel from the morning even unto the time appointed, and there die of the people, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, seventy thousand men,
16 Lorsque l'ange étendit sa main vers Jérusalem pour la détruire, Yahvé se détourna du désastre et dit à l'ange qui détruisait le peuple: « C'est assez. Maintenant, retire ta main. » L'ange de Yahvé était près de l'aire de battage d'Arauna, le Jébusien.
and the messenger putteth forth his hand to Jerusalem to destroy it, and Jehovah repenteth concerning the evil, and saith to the messenger who is destroying among the people, 'Enough, now, cease thy hand;' and the messenger of Jehovah was near the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 David s'adressa à Yahvé lorsqu'il vit l'ange qui frappait le peuple, et il dit: « Voici, j'ai péché et j'ai agi avec perversité; mais ces brebis, qu'ont-elles fait? Je t'en prie, que ta main soit contre moi et contre la maison de mon père. »
And David speaketh unto Jehovah, when he seeth the messenger who is smiting among the people, and saith, 'Lo, I have sinned, yea, I have done perversely; and these — the flock — what have they done? Let, I pray Thee, Thy hand be on me, and on the house of my father.'
18 Gad vint ce jour-là auprès de David et lui dit: « Monte, bâtis un autel à Yahvé sur l'aire d'Arauna, le Jébusien. »
And Gad cometh in unto David on that day, and saith to him, 'Go up, raise to Jehovah an altar in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite;'
19 David monta, selon la parole de Gad, comme l'avait ordonné l'Éternel.
and David goeth up, according to the word of Gad, as Jehovah commanded.
20 Arauna regarda dehors et vit le roi et ses serviteurs qui venaient vers lui. Alors Arauna sortit et se prosterna devant le roi, le visage contre terre.
And Araunah looketh, and seeth the king and his servants passing over unto him, and Araunah goeth out and boweth himself to the king — his face to the earth.
21 Aravna dit: « Pourquoi le roi mon seigneur est-il venu vers son serviteur? » David dit: « Pour acheter ton aire, pour construire un autel à Yahvé, afin que la peste cesse d'affliger le peuple. »
And Araunah saith, 'Wherefore hath my lord the king come unto his servant?' and David saith, 'To buy from thee the threshing-floor, to build an altar to Jehovah, and the plague is restrained from the people.'
22 Arauna dit à David: « Que le roi mon seigneur prenne et offre ce qui lui semble bon. Voici le bétail pour l'holocauste, les traîneaux à battre et les jougs des bœufs pour le bois.
And Araunah saith unto David, 'Let my lord the king take and cause to ascend that which is good in his eyes; see, the oxen for a burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments, and the instruments of the oxen, for wood;'
23 Tout cela, ô roi, Arauna le donne au roi. » Aravna dit au roi: « Que Yahvé ton Dieu t'accueille. »
the whole hath Araunah given, [as] a king to a king; and Araunah saith unto the king, 'Jehovah thy God doth accept thee.'
24 Le roi dit à Arauna: « Non, mais je veux bien te l'acheter à prix d'or. Je ne veux pas offrir à Yahvé mon Dieu des holocaustes qui ne me coûtent rien. » David acheta donc l'aire et les bœufs pour cinquante sicles d'argent.
And the king saith unto Araunah, 'Nay, for I do surely buy from thee for a price, and I do not cause to ascend to Jehovah my God burnt-offerings for nought;' and David buyeth the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver,
25 David bâtit là un autel à Yahvé, et il offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices de prospérité. Il implora Yahvé pour le pays, et la plaie fut retirée d'Israël.
and David buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, and causeth to ascend burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and Jehovah is entreated for the land, and the plague is restrained from Israel.
