2 Samuel 23
1 Voici les dernières paroles de David. David, fils de Jessé, dit, l'homme qui a été élevé en haut dit, l'oint du Dieu de Jacob, le doux psalmiste d'Israël:
And these are the last words of David. Thus saith David the son of Jesse, and thus saith the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet singer of Israel:
2 « L'Esprit de Yahvé a parlé par moi. Sa parole était sur ma langue.
The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me, and his word was upon my tongue.
3 Le Dieu d'Israël a dit, le Rocher d'Israël m'a parlé, Celui qui dirige les hommes avec droiture, qui règne dans la crainte de Dieu,
[Thus] said the God of Israel, concerning me spoke the Rock of Israel, That [I should be] ruler over men, be righteous, ruling in the fear of God;
4 sera comme la lumière du matin quand le soleil se lève, un matin sans nuages, quand l'herbe tendre jaillit de la terre, par une lumière claire après la pluie ».
And as in the light of morning the sun riseth, in a morning without clouds, with more than the brightness [reflected] by rain on the herbs that spring from the earth.
5 Ma maison n'est-elle pas ainsi avec Dieu? Mais il a conclu avec moi une alliance éternelle, ordonné en toutes choses, et sûr, car c'est tout mon salut et tout mon désir. Ne va-t-il pas la faire grandir?
Truly is not so my house with God? since he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, firm in all, and sure? yea, will he not cause to grow all my salvation, and all my desire?
6 Mais tous les impies seront comme des épines qu'on arrache, parce qu'ils ne peuvent pas être pris avec la main.
But the godless are all of them as waving thorns, which cannot be taken in the hand;
7 L'homme qui les touche doit être armé de fer et de la hampe d'une lance. Ils seront entièrement brûlés par le feu à leur place. »
But the man that will touch them must protect his hand with iron and the staff of a spear: and they will be utterly burnt with fire in the dwelling.
8 Voici les noms des vaillants hommes que David avait: Josheb Basshebeth, de Tahchemon, chef des capitaines; on l'appelait Adino, l'Eznite, qui tua huit cents personnes à la fois.
These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Yosheb-bashebeth, the Thachkemonite, the chief among the captains, —the same as 'Adino the 'Eznite, —because of eight hundred slain at one time.
9 Après lui, Éléazar, fils de Dodaï, fils d'un Ahohite, l'un des trois vaillants hommes qui étaient avec David lorsqu'ils défièrent les Philistins qui étaient là rassemblés pour combattre, et que les hommes d'Israël s'étaient retirés.
And after him was El'azar the son of Dodo, the son of Achochi, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel had withdrawn themselves;
10 Il se leva et frappa les Philistins jusqu'à ce que sa main se soit fatiguée, et que sa main se soit gelée à l'épée; et Yahvé fit en ce jour une grande victoire; et le peuple ne revint après lui que pour faire du pillage.
He then arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand did cleave unto the sword: and the Lord wrought a great victory on that day; and the people returned after him only to strip [the slain].
11 Après lui, Shammah, fils d'Agee, un Hararien. Les Philistins s'étaient rassemblés en troupe là où il y avait un terrain plein de lentilles; et le peuple fuyait devant les Philistins.
And after him was Shammah the son of Age the Hararite. The Philistines were gathered together into a troop, and there was a piece of ground full of lentiles; and the people had fled from the Philistines;
12 Mais lui se plaça au milieu du terrain, le défendit et tua les Philistins; et Yahvé remporta une grande victoire.
But he placed himself in the midst of the ground, and delivered it, and smote the Philistines: and the Lord wrought a great victory.
13 Trois des trente chefs descendirent et vinrent auprès de David, au temps de la moisson, dans la caverne d'Adullam; et la troupe des Philistins campait dans la vallée des Rephaïm.
And these three, the chiefs of the thirty, went down, and came to David at harvest-time unto the cave of 'Adullam: and the troop of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim.
14 David était alors dans la forteresse, et la garnison des Philistins était alors à Bethléhem.
And David was then in the strong-hold, and an outpost of the Philistines was then in Beth-lechem.
15 David dit avec nostalgie: « Oh, si quelqu'un me donnait à boire de l'eau du puits de Bethléem, qui est près de la porte! »
And David longed, and said, Oh that one would bring me water to drink out of the well at Beth-lechem, which is by the gate!
16 Les trois hommes forts percèrent l'armée des Philistins, puis ils puisèrent de l'eau dans le puits de Bethléem qui est près de la porte, ils la prirent et l'apportèrent à David; mais il ne voulut pas en boire, et il la versa à l'Éternel.
And the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines; and drew water out of the well of Beth-lechem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David; but he would not drink thereof, and poured it out unto the Lord.
17 Il dit: « Éloigne-toi de moi, Yahvé, pour que je fasse cela! N'est-ce pas le sang des hommes qui ont risqué leur vie pour y aller? ». C'est pourquoi il ne voulut pas le boire. Les trois hommes forts firent ces choses.
And he said, Far be it from me, O Lord, that I should do this: [is not this] the blood of the men that went at the risk of their life? and thus he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.
18 Abischaï, frère de Joab, fils de Tseruja, était le chef des trois. Il leva sa lance contre trois cents personnes et les tua, et il eut un nom parmi les trois.
And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruyah, was the chief of these three; and he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain, and had a name among the three.
19 N'était-il pas le plus honorable des trois? C'est pourquoi il fut fait leur chef. Cependant, il n'était pas inclus parmi les trois.
Although he was the most honored of the three, wherefore he became their captain: he nevertheless attained not unto the three [in prowess].
20 Benaja, fils de Jehoiada, fils d'un homme vaillant de Kabzeel, qui avait fait des exploits, tua les deux fils d'Ariel de Moab. Il descendit aussi et tua un lion au milieu d'une fosse, au temps de la neige.
And Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', the son of a valiant man, great in many acts of Kabzeel; he it was that smote the two lion-like heroes of Moab; he also went down and slew a lion in the midst of a pit on a day when it snowed;
21 Il tua un Égyptien énorme, et l'Égyptien avait une lance à la main; mais il descendit vers lui avec un bâton, arracha la lance de la main de l'Égyptien, et le tua avec sa propre lance.
And he slew an Egyptian, a man of good appearance; and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and he snatched the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.
22 Benaja, fils de Jehojada, fit ces choses, et il eut un nom parmi les trois vaillants hommes.
These things did Benayahu the son of Yehoyada', and he had a name among the three mighty men.
23 Il était plus honorable que les trente, mais il n'atteignit pas les trois. David le plaça à la tête de sa garde.
He was more honored than the thirty; but he attained not to these three. And David appointed him in his private council.
24 Asaël, frère de Joab, était l'un des trente: Elhanan, fils de Dodo, de Bethléhem,
'Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty; Elchanan the son of Dodo of Beth-lechem,
25 Shammah, le Harodite, Elika, le Harodite,
Shammah the Charodite, Elika the Charodite,
26 Hélez, le Paltite, Ira, fils d'Ikkesh, le Tekoïte,
Chelez the Paltite, 'Ira the son of 'Ikkesh the Teko'ite,
27 Abiezer, l'Anathothite, Mebunnai, le Hushathite,
Abi'ezer the 'Anethothite, Mebunnai the Chushathite,
28 Zalmon, l`Achochite, Maharaï, le Netophathien,
Zalmon the Achochite, Maharai the Netophathite,
29 Héleb, fils de Baana, le Netophathien, Ittaï, fils de Ribaï, de Guibea, des fils de Benjamin,
Cheleb the son of Ba'anah, the Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai of Gib'ah of the children of Benjamin,
30 Benaja, de Pirathon, Hiddaï, des ruisseaux de Gaasch.
Benayahu the Pir'athonite, Hiddai of Nachale-Ga'ash,
