2 Samuel 21
1 Du temps de David, il y eut une famine pendant trois ans, année après année, et David chercha la face de Yahvé. Yahvé dit: « C'est à cause de Saül et de sa maison sanglante, parce qu'il a fait mourir les Gibéonites. »
Now there was a famine in the days of David for three consecutive years, so David sought the face of the LORD. And the LORD said, "There is bloodguilt on Saul and on his house, because he murdered the Gibeonites."
2 Le roi appela les Gabaonites et leur dit (les Gabaonites n'étaient pas d'entre les enfants d'Israël, mais d'entre les restes des Amoréens; les enfants d'Israël leur avaient fait un serment, et Saül cherchait à les tuer dans son zèle pour les enfants d'Israël et de Juda);
So the king summoned the Gibeonites, and spoke to them. (Now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel but of the remnant of the Amorites. And the children of Israel had sworn to them, but Saul sought to exterminate them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah.)
3 et David dit aux Gabaonites: « Que dois-je faire pour vous? Et avec quoi dois-je faire l'expiation, afin que vous bénissiez l'héritage de Yahvé? ».
And David said to the Gibeonites, "What can I do for you? And how can I make atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of the LORD?"
4 Les Gabaonites lui dirent: « Il n'est question ni d'argent ni d'or entre nous et Saül ou sa maison, et il ne nous appartient pas de faire mourir quelqu'un en Israël. » Il a dit: « Je ferai pour toi tout ce que tu dis. »
The Gibeonites said to him, "It is not a matter of silver or gold between us and Saul or his house, nor is it our place to put anyone to death in Israel." Then he said, "What do you want? For I will do it for you."
5 Ils dirent au roi: « L'homme qui nous a consumés et qui a comploté contre nous pour que nous soyons détruits et que nous ne puissions rester dans aucune des frontières d'Israël,
So they said to the king, "The man who opposed us and persecuted us, who meant to eradicate us from having a place anywhere in the territory of Israel,
6 qu'on nous livre sept hommes de ses fils, et nous les pendrons à Yahvé à Guibea de Saül, l'élu de Yahvé. » Le roi a dit: « Je vais les donner. »
let seven of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them before the LORD at Gibeon on the mountain of the LORD." And the king replied, "I will do it."
7 Mais le roi épargna Mephiboscheth, fils de Jonathan, fils de Saül, à cause du serment de l'Éternel qui était entre eux, entre David et Jonathan, fils de Saül.
But the king spared Mippibaal, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the LORD's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
8 Mais le roi prit les deux fils de Ritspa, fille d'Aja, qu'elle avait enfantés à Saül, Armoni et Mephibosheth, et les cinq fils de Merab, fille de Saül, qu'elle avait enfantés à Adriel, fils de Barzillai, le Méholathien.
But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mippibaal; and the five sons of Merob the daughter of Saul, whom she bore to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.
9 Il les livra entre les mains des Gabaonites, qui les pendirent sur la montagne devant Yahvé, et tous les sept tombèrent ensemble. Ils furent mis à mort les jours de la moisson, les premiers jours, au début de la récolte de l'orge.
And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them on the mountain before the LORD, and all seven of them fell together. And they were put to death in the first days of harvest at the beginning of barley harvest.
10 Ritspa, fille d'Aja, prit un sac et s'en étendit sur le rocher, depuis le début de la moisson jusqu'à ce que l'eau tombe du ciel sur eux. Elle ne permit ni aux oiseaux du ciel de s'y reposer le jour, ni aux animaux des champs la nuit.
And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it for herself on a rock, from the beginning of harvest until it rained on them from the sky. And she did not allow the birds of the sky to rest on them by day, nor the wild animals by night.
11 On raconta à David ce qu'avait fait Ritspa, fille d'Aja, concubine de Saül.
It was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the secondary wife of Saul, had done.
12 David alla prendre les ossements de Saül et les ossements de Jonathan, son fils, chez les hommes de Jabesh Galaad, qui les avaient volés dans la rue de Beth Shan, où les Philistins les avaient pendus le jour où les Philistins tuèrent Saül à Gilboa;
Then David went and obtained the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan from the citizens of Jabesh Gilead, who had stolen them from the public square of Beth Shan, where the Philistines had hung them on the day that the Philistines killed Saul on Gilboa;
13 et il fit monter de là les ossements de Saül et les ossements de Jonathan, son fils. Ils recueillirent aussi les ossements de ceux qui avaient été pendus.
and he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son. And they gathered the bones of those who were hanged.
14 On enterra les ossements de Saül et de Jonathan, son fils, dans le pays de Benjamin, à Zéla, dans le tombeau de Kis, son père, et on exécuta tout ce que le roi avait ordonné. Après cela, Dieu a répondu à la prière pour le pays.
And he buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan in the land of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father. And they performed all that the king commanded. After that God responded to prayers for the land.
15 Les Philistins firent de nouveau la guerre à Israël; David descendit, et ses serviteurs avec lui, et combattit les Philistins. David s'affaiblit;
The Philistines had war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines. Now David became exhausted,
16 et Ishbibenob, qui était d'entre les fils du géant, et dont la lance pesait trois cents sicles d'airain, armé d'une épée neuve, pensait tuer David.
and Dodo son of Joash, of the descendants of the Raphah, captured him. His spear weighed three hundred bronze shekels, and he was girded with a new sword, and he thought he could kill David.
17 Mais Abishaï, fils de Tseruja, lui vint en aide, frappa le Philistin et le tua. Les hommes de David lui jurèrent alors: « Ne sors plus avec nous pour combattre, afin que tu n'éteignes pas la lampe d'Israël. »
But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him and struck the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David took an oath, saying, "You must not go out to battle with us again, so that you do not extinguish the lamp of Israel."
18 Après cela, il y eut de nouveau une guerre avec les Philistins à Gob. Et Sibbecaï, le Hushathite, tua Saph, qui était d'entre les fils du géant.
Now it came to pass after this that there was another battle with the Philistines at Gezer. Then Sibbekai the Hushathite killed Saph, a descendant of the Raphah.
19 Il y eut encore une guerre avec les Philistins à Gob, et Elhanan, fils de Jaaré-Oregim, le Bethléhémite, tua le frère de Goliath, le Gittien, dont le bâton de la lance était comme une poutre de tisserand.
There was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of Jair the Bethlehemite killed the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
20 Il y eut encore une guerre à Gath, où se trouvait un homme de grande taille, qui avait six doigts à chaque main et six orteils à chaque pied, au nombre de vingt-quatre.
There was another battle at Gath, where there was a man of great stature who had on six fingers on each hand, and six toes on each foot, twenty four in number, and he also was a descendant of Raphah.
21 Lorsqu'il défia Israël, Jonathan, fils de Schimeï, frère de David, le tua.
When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimeah, David's brother, killed him.
22 Ces quatre-là étaient nés du géant à Gath, et ils tombèrent par la main de David et par la main de ses serviteurs.
These four were descendants of Raphah in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
