2 Samuel 13
1 Après cela, Absalom, fils de David, avait une belle sœur, qui s'appelait Tamar, et Amnon, fils de David, l'aimait.
Now after these things, it happened that Amnon, the son of David, was in love with the very beautiful sister of Absalom, the son of David, and she was called Tamar.
2 Amnon était si troublé qu'il tomba malade à cause de sa sœur Tamar, car elle était vierge, et il semblait difficile à Amnon de lui faire quoi que ce soit.
And he pined for her exceedingly, so much so that, out of love for her, he became ill. For, since she was a virgin, it seemed a difficulty to him that he would do anything dishonest with her.
3 Mais Amnon avait un ami qui s'appelait Jonadab, fils de Shimea, frère de David, et Jonadab était un homme très subtil.
Now Amnon had a friend named Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, the brother of David: a very prudent man.
4 Il lui dit: « Pourquoi, fils du roi, es-tu si triste de jour en jour? Ne veux-tu pas me le dire? » Amnon lui a dit: « J'aime Tamar, la sœur de mon frère Absalom. »
And he said to him: “Why are you becoming so thin from day to day, O son of the king? Why won’t you tell me?” And Amnon said to him, “I am in love with Tamar, the sister of my brother Absalom.”
5 Jonadab lui dit: « Couche-toi sur ton lit et fais semblant d'être malade. Quand ton père viendra te voir, tu lui diras: « Que ma sœur Tamar vienne me donner du pain à manger, et prépare le repas sous mes yeux, pour que je le voie et que je le mange de sa main ».
And Jonadab said to him: “Lie down upon your bed, and feign sickness. And when your father will come to visit you, say to him: ‘I ask you to let my sister Tamar come to me, so that she may give me food, and may make a small meal, so that I may eat it from her hand.’”
6 Amnon se coucha donc et fit semblant d'être malade. Lorsque le roi vint le voir, Amnon lui dit: « Que ma sœur Tamar vienne et me prépare deux gâteaux sous mes yeux, afin que je puisse manger de sa main. »
And so, Amnon lay down, and he began to act as if he were ill. And when the king had come to visit him, Amnon said to the king, “I beg you to let my sister Tamar come to me, and make in my sight two little portions of food, so that I take it from her hand.”
7 Et David envoya chez Tamar, en disant: « Va maintenant dans la maison de ton frère Amnon, et prépare-lui à manger. »
Therefore, David sent home to Tamar, saying, “Come to the house of your brother Amnon, and make a small meal for him.”
8 Tamar alla donc à la maison d'Amnon, son frère, qui était couché. Elle prit de la pâte, la pétrit, fit des gâteaux sous ses yeux et fit cuire les gâteaux.
And Tamar went into the house of her brother Amnon. But he was lying down. And taking flour, she mixed it. And dissolving it in his sight, she cooked little portions of food.
9 Elle prit la casserole et les versa devant lui, mais il refusa de manger. Amnon dit: « Que tous les hommes me quittent. » Et tous les hommes sortirent de chez lui.
And taking what she had cooked, she poured it out, and she set it before him. But he refused to eat. And Amnon said, “Send everyone away from me.” And when they had sent everyone away,
10 Amnon dit à Tamar: « Apporte le repas dans la chambre, que je mange de ta main. » Tamar prit les gâteaux qu'elle avait faits, et les apporta dans la chambre à Amnon, son frère.
Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the bedroom, so that I may eat from your hand.” Therefore, Tamar took the little portions of food that she had made, and she brought them to her brother Amnon in the bedroom.
11 Lorsqu'elle les lui eut apportés pour qu'il les mange, il la saisit et lui dit: « Viens, couche-toi avec moi, ma sœur. »
And when she had presented the food to him, he took hold of her, and he said, “Come lie with me, my sister.”
12 Elle lui répondit: « Non, mon frère, ne me force pas! Car on ne doit pas faire une telle chose en Israël. Ne commets pas cette folie!
She answered him: “Do not do so, my brother! Do not force me. For no such thing must be done in Israel. Do not choose to do this senseless act.
13 Quant à moi, où porterais-je ma honte? Et toi, tu seras comme l'un des insensés d'Israël. Maintenant, je vous prie de parler au roi, car il ne me retiendra pas devant vous. »
For I will not be able to bear my shame. And you will be like one of the foolish in Israel. For it is better to speak to the king, and he will not deny me to you.”
14 Mais il ne voulut pas écouter sa voix, et, plus fort qu'elle, il la força et coucha avec elle.
But he was not willing to agree to her petition. Instead, prevailing by strength, he forced her, and he lay with her.
15 Alors Amnon lui voua une haine extrême, car la haine qu'il lui vouait était plus grande que l'amour qu'il lui avait porté. Amnon lui dit: « Lève-toi, va-t'en! »
And Amnon held hatred for her with an exceedingly great hatred, so much so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her before. And Amnon said to her, “Rise up, and go away.”
16 Elle lui dit: « Non, car cette grande faute de me renvoyer est pire que l'autre que tu m'as faite! ». Mais il ne voulut pas l'écouter.
And she answered him, “This evil is greater, which you are now doing against me in driving me away, than what you did before.” But he was not willing to listen to her.
17 Alors il appela son serviteur qui le servait, et dit: « Maintenant, éloigne cette femme de moi, et verrouille la porte après elle. »
Instead, calling the servants who were ministering to him, he said, “Cast this woman out from me, and close the door behind her.”
18 Elle avait sur elle un vêtement de diverses couleurs, car les filles du roi qui étaient vierges s'habillaient de tels vêtements. Son serviteur la fit sortir et ferma la porte à clé après elle.
Now she was clothed with an ankle-length robe. For the virgin daughters of the king made use of this kind of garment. And so, his servant cast her out, and he closed the door behind her.
19 Tamar mit de la cendre sur sa tête et déchira le vêtement de toutes les couleurs qu'elle avait sur elle; elle mit sa main sur sa tête et s'en alla, en poussant des cris de guerre.
And she sprinkled ashes upon her head, and she tore her ankle-length robe. And placing her hands upon her head, she went forth, walking and crying out.
20 Absalom, son frère, lui dit: « Amnon, ton frère, a-t-il été avec toi? Mais maintenant, tais-toi, ma sœur. C'est ton frère. Ne prends pas cette affaire à cœur. » Tamar resta donc désolée dans la maison de son frère Absalom.
Then her brother Absalom said to her: “Has your brother Amnon lain with you? But now, sister, be quiet. For he is your brother. And you should not afflict your heart because of this matter.” And so, Tamar remained, wasting away in the house of her brother Absalom.
21 Le roi David, ayant appris toutes ces choses, fut très irrité.
And when king David had heard about these things, he was deeply grieved. But he was not willing to afflict the spirit of his son Amnon. For he loved him, since he was his firstborn.
22 Absalom ne parla à Amnon ni en bien ni en mal, car Absalom détestait Amnon, parce qu'il avait forcé sa sœur Tamar.
Yet Absalom did not speak to Amnon, neither good nor evil. For Absalom hated Amnon because he had violated his sister Tamar.
23 Après deux années complètes, Absalom fit tondre des moutons à Baal Hatsor, qui est près d'Ephraïm, et Absalom invita tous les fils du roi.
Then, after the time of two years, it happened that the sheep of Absalom were being shorn in Baal-hazor, which is near Ephraim. And Absalom invited all the sons of the king.
24 Absalom se rendit auprès du roi et dit: « Vois maintenant que ton serviteur a des tondeurs de moutons. Je te prie de laisser le roi et ses serviteurs aller avec ton serviteur. »
And he went to the king, and he said to him: “Behold, the sheep of your servant are being shorn. I ask that the king, with his servants, may come to his servant.”
25 Le roi dit à Absalom: « Non, mon fils, ne partons pas tous, de peur que nous ne soyons un fardeau pour toi. » Il le pressa; cependant il ne voulut pas partir, mais le bénit.
And the king said to Absalom: “Do not, my son, do not choose to ask that we may all come and be a burden to you.” Then, after he urged him, and he had refused to go, he blessed him.
26 Absalom dit: « Sinon, laissez mon frère Amnon venir avec nous. » Le roi lui dit: « Pourquoi devrait-il aller avec toi? »
And Absalom said, “If you are not willing to come, I beg you, at least let my brother Amnon come with us.” And the king said to him, “It is not necessary that he go with you.”
27 Mais Absalom le pressa, et il laissa aller avec lui Amnon et tous les fils du roi.
But Absalom pressed him, and so he sent with him Amnon and all the sons of the king. And Absalom made a feast, like the feast of a king.
28 Absalom donna cet ordre à ses serviteurs: « Observez maintenant quand le cœur d'Amnon s'égaie avec le vin; et quand je vous dirai: « Frappez Amnon », alors tuez-le. N'ayez pas peur. Ne vous l'ai-je pas ordonné? Sois courageux et vaillant! »
Then Absalom commanded his servants, saying: “Observe when Amnon will have become drunk with wine. And when I say to you, ‘Strike and kill him!’ do not be afraid. For it is I who commands you. Be strong and valiant men.”
29 Les serviteurs d'Absalom firent à Amnon ce qu'Absalom avait ordonné. Alors tous les fils du roi se levèrent, chacun monta sur sa mule et s'enfuit.
Therefore, the servants of Absalom acted against Amnon, just as Absalom had commanded them. And all the sons of the king rose up, and each one climbed upon his mule and fled.
30 Pendant qu'ils étaient en chemin, la nouvelle parvint à David: « Absalom a tué tous les fils du roi, et il n'en reste pas un seul. »
And while they were still traveling on the journey, a rumor reached David, saying, “Absalom has struck down all the sons of the king, and there is not one of them remaining.”
31 Alors le roi se leva, déchira ses vêtements et se coucha par terre, et tous ses serviteurs se tenaient là, les vêtements déchirés.
And so the king rose up, and he tore his garments, and he fell upon the ground. And all his servants, who were standing near him, tore their garments.
32 Jonadab, fils de Schimea, frère de David, prit la parole et dit: « Que mon seigneur ne croie pas qu'on ait tué tous les jeunes gens, les fils du roi, car Amnon seul est mort; car c'est ce qui a été décidé par Absalom, depuis le jour où il a forcé Tamar, sa sœur.
But Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David’s brother, responding, said: “My lord the king should not consider that all the sons of the king have been slain. Amnon alone is dead. For he was set against by the mouth of Absalom from the day that he raped his sister Tamar.
33 Maintenant donc, que mon seigneur le roi ne prenne pas à cœur de penser que tous les fils du roi sont morts, car seul Amnon est mort. »
Now therefore, let not my lord the king set this word in his heart, saying, ‘All the sons of the king have been slain.’ For only Amnon is dead.”
34 Mais Absalom s'enfuit. Le jeune homme qui montait la garde leva les yeux et regarda, et voici que beaucoup de gens arrivaient par le chemin de la colline derrière lui.
Now Absalom fled. And the young man keeping watch, lifted up his eyes and gazed out. And behold, many people were arriving along a remote road at the side of the mountain.
35 Jonadab dit au roi: « Voici les fils du roi qui arrivent! C'est comme ton serviteur l'a dit. »
And Jonadab said to the king: “Behold, the sons of the king are here. In accord with the word of your servant, so it has happened.”
36 Dès qu'il eut fini de parler, voici que les fils du roi arrivèrent, élevèrent la voix et pleurèrent. Le roi aussi et tous ses serviteurs pleuraient amèrement.
And when he had ceased speaking, the sons of the king also appeared. And entering, they lifted up their voice, and they wept. And the king also, and all his servants, wept with an exceedingly great weeping.
37 Mais Absalom s'enfuit et alla chez Talmaï, fils d'Ammihur, roi de Gueshur. David portait chaque jour le deuil de son fils.
But Absalom, fleeing, went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. Then David mourned for his son every day.
38 Absalom s'enfuit et alla à Gueshur, où il resta trois ans.
Now after he had fled and had arrived in Geshur, Absalom was in that place for three years.
39 Le roi David avait hâte de sortir vers Absalom, car il était consolé au sujet d'Amnon, puisqu'il était mort.
And king David ceased to pursue Absalom, because he had been consoled over the passing of Amnon.
