1 En ces jours-là, Ézéchias était malade et mourant. Le prophète Ésaïe, fils d'Amoz, vint le trouver et lui dit: « Yahvé dit: « Mets en ordre ta maison, car tu vas mourir et tu ne vivras pas. »
In those days was Ezekias sick [even] to death. And the prophet Esaias the son of Amos came in to him, and said to him, Thus says the Lord, Give charge to your household; [for] you shall die, and not live.
2 Et il tourna son visage vers la muraille et pria Yahvé, en disant:
And Ezekias turned to the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying,
3 « Souviens-toi maintenant, Yahvé, je t'en supplie, comment j'ai marché devant toi dans la vérité et avec un cœur parfait, et comment j'ai fait ce qui est bon à tes yeux. » Et Ézéchias pleura amèrement.
Lord, remember, I pray you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your eyes. And Ezekias wept with a great weeping.
4 Avant qu'Ésaïe ne soit sorti au milieu de la ville, la parole de Yahvé lui fut adressée en ces termes:
And Esaias was in the middle court, and the word of the Lord came to him, saying,
5 « Retourne, et dis à Ézéchias, prince de mon peuple: « Yahvé, le Dieu de David, ton père, dit: « J'ai entendu ta prière. J'ai vu tes larmes. Voici que je vais te guérir. Le troisième jour, tu monteras à la maison de l'Éternel.
Turn back, and you shall say to Ezekias the ruler of my people, Thus says the Lord God of your father David, I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears: behold, I will heal you: on the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.
6 J'ajouterai quinze ans à tes jours. Je te délivrerai, toi et cette ville, de la main du roi d'Assyrie. Je défendrai cette ville à cause de moi et à cause de mon serviteur David. »'"
And I will add to your days fifteen years; and I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of the Assyrians, and I will defend this city for my own sake, and for my servant's David sake.
7 Ésaïe a dit: « Prends un gâteau de figues. » Ils l'ont pris et l'ont mis sur le furoncle, et il a récupéré.
And he said, Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it upon the ulcer, and he shall be well.
8 Ézéchias dit à Ésaïe: « Quel sera le signe que Yahvé me guérira et que je monterai à la maison de Yahvé le troisième jour? »
And Ezekias said to Esaias, What [is] the sign that the Lord will heal me, and I shall go up to the house of the Lord on the third day?
9 Ésaïe dit: « Voici le signe que vous donnera Yahvé, que Yahvé accomplira ce qu'il a dit: l'ombre doit-elle avancer de dix pas ou reculer de dix pas? ».
And Esaias said, This [is] the sign from the Lord, that the Lord will perform the word which he has spoken, the shadow [of the dial] shall advance ten degrees: [or] if it should go back ten degrees [this would also be the sign].
10 Ézéchias répondit: « C'est une chose légère que l'ombre avance de dix pas. Non, mais que l'ombre revienne en arrière de dix pas. »
And Ezekias said, [It is] a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return ten degrees backward on the dial.
11 Le prophète Ésaïe cria à Yahvé, et il fit reculer de dix pas l'ombre qui était descendue sur le cadran d'Achaz.
And Esaias the prophet cried to the Lord: and the shadow returned back ten degrees on the dial.
12 En ce temps-là, Berodach Baladan, fils de Baladan, roi de Babylone, envoya des lettres et un présent à Ézéchias, car il avait appris qu'Ézéchias était malade.
At that time Marodach Baladan, son of Baladan king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Ezekias, because he had heard that Ezekias was sick.
13 Ézéchias les écouta et leur montra tout le dépôt de ses objets précieux, l'argent, l'or, les aromates, l'huile précieuse, la maison de ses armures et tout ce qui se trouvait dans ses trésors. Il n'y avait rien dans sa maison, ni dans toute sa domination, qu'Ézéchias ne leur ait montré.
And Ezekias rejoiced at them, and showed all the house of his spices, the silver and the gold, the spices, and the fine oil, and the armory, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing which Ezekias did not show them in his house, and in all his dominion.
14 Alors Ésaïe, le prophète, vint auprès du roi Ézéchias et lui dit: « Qu'ont dit ces hommes? D'où sont-ils venus vers toi? » Ezéchias dit: « Ils viennent d'un pays lointain, même de Babylone. »
And Esaias the prophet went in to king Ezekias, and said to him, What said these men? and whence came they to you? And Ezekias said, they came to me from a distant land, [even] from Babylon.
15 Il dit: « Qu'ont-ils vu dans ta maison? » Ézéchias répondit: « Ils ont vu tout ce qui est dans ma maison. Il n'y a rien parmi mes trésors que je ne leur aie montré. »
And he said, What saw they in your house? And he said, They saw all things that [are] in my house: there was nothing in my house which I showed not to them; yes, all that was in my treasures also.
16 Ésaïe dit à Ézéchias: « Écoute la parole de Yahvé.
And Esaias said to Ezekias, Hear the word of the Lord:
17 Voici, les jours viennent où tout ce qui est dans ta maison, et ce que tes pères ont amassé jusqu'à ce jour, sera emporté à Babylone. Il ne restera rien, dit Yahvé.
Behold, the days come, that all things that are in your house shall be taken, and all that your fathers have treasured up until this day, to Babylon; and there shall not fail a word, which the Lord has spoken.
18 Ils prendront quelques-uns de tes fils qui sortiront de toi, que tu auras engendrés, et ils seront eunuques dans le palais du roi de Babylone. »
And as for your sons which shall come forth of you, which you shall beget, [the enemy] shall take them, and they shall be eunuchs in the house of the king of Babylon.
19 Alors Ézéchias dit à Ésaïe: « La parole de l'Éternel que tu as prononcée est bonne ». Il dit encore: « N'est-ce pas ainsi, si la paix et la vérité seront de mon temps? »
And Ezekias said to Esaias, Good [is] the word of the Lord which he has spoken: [only] let there be peace in my days.
20 Le reste des actes d'Ézéchias, et toute sa puissance, et comment il fit l'étang, et le conduit, et amena l'eau dans la ville, ne sont-ils pas écrits dans le livre des chroniques des rois de Juda?
And the rest of the acts of Ezekias, and all his might, and all that he made, the fountain and the aqueduct, and [how] he brought water into the city, [are] not these things written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Juda?
21 Ézéchias se coucha avec ses pères, et Manassé, son fils, régna à sa place.
And Ezekias slept with his fathers: and Manasses his son reigned in his stead.
