2 Chroniques 34
1 Josias avait huit ans lorsqu'il commença à régner, et il régna trente et un ans à Jérusalem.
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.
2 Il fit ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel, il marcha dans les voies de David, son père, et ne se détourna ni à droite ni à gauche.
He did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, and walked in the ways of David his father, and did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.
3 En effet, la huitième année de son règne, alors qu'il était encore jeune, il se mit à rechercher le Dieu de David, son père, et la douzième année, il commença à purifier Juda et Jérusalem des hauts lieux, des mâts d'ashère, des images gravées et des images fondues.
For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the Asherim, and the engraved images, and the molten images.
4 On brisa devant lui les autels des Baals, et il abattit les autels à encens qui se trouvaient au-dessus d'eux. Il brisa les mâts d'ashère, les images gravées et les images en fusion, en fit de la poussière et la répandit sur les tombes de ceux qui leur avaient offert des sacrifices.
They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence; and the incense altars that were on high above them he cut down; and the Asherim, and the engraved images, and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
5 Il brûla les ossements des prêtres sur leurs autels et purifia Juda et Jérusalem.
He burnt the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.
6 Il fit cela dans les villes de Manassé, d'Ephraïm et de Siméon, jusqu'à Nephtali, autour de leurs ruines.
He did this in the cities of Manasseh and Ephraim and Simeon, even to Naphtali, around in their ruins.
7 Il brisa les autels, réduisit en poudre les mâts d'ashère et les images gravées, et abattit tous les autels à encens dans tout le pays d'Israël, puis il retourna à Jérusalem.
He broke down the altars, and beat the Asherim and the engraved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, and returned to Jerusalem.
8 Or, la dix-huitième année de son règne, après avoir purifié le pays et la maison, il envoya Shaphan, fils d'Azalia, Maaséja, gouverneur de la ville, et Joach, fils de Joachaz, archiviste, pour réparer la maison de Yahvé son Dieu.
Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of the LORD his God.
9 Ils se présentèrent chez Hilkija, le grand prêtre, et lui remirent l'argent qui avait été apporté dans la maison de Dieu, et que les Lévites, gardiens du seuil, avaient recueilli des mains de Manassé, d'Éphraïm, de tous les restes d'Israël, de tout Juda et Benjamin, et des habitants de Jérusalem.
They came to Hilkiah the high priest, and delivered the money that was brought into God's house, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin, and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
10 Ils le remirent entre les mains des ouvriers qui avaient la charge de la maison de l'Éternel, et les ouvriers qui travaillaient dans la maison de l'Éternel le donnèrent pour réparer et rebâtir la maison.
They delivered it into the hand of the workers who had the oversight of the house of the LORD; and the workmen who labored in the house of the LORD gave it to mend and repair the house;
11 Ils le donnèrent aux charpentiers et aux constructeurs pour acheter des pierres de taille et du bois pour les assemblages, et pour faire des poutres pour les maisons que les rois de Juda avaient détruites.
even to the carpenters and to the builders gave they it, to buy cut stone, and timber for couplings, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
12 Les hommes exécutèrent fidèlement le travail. Ils avaient pour chefs Jahath et Abdias, les Lévites, d'entre les fils de Merari; Zacharie et Meshullam, d'entre les fils des Kehathites, pour les diriger; et d'autres Lévites, qui étaient tous habiles à jouer des instruments de musique.
The men did the work faithfully: and their overseers were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and others of the Levites, all who were skillful with instruments of music.
13 Ils avaient aussi la charge des porteurs de fardeaux, et dirigeaient tous ceux qui faisaient le travail, dans tous les genres de service. Parmi les Lévites, il y avait des scribes, des fonctionnaires et des gardiens de portes.
Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and set forward all who did the work in every kind of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and gatekeepers.
14 Quand on sortit l'argent qui avait été apporté dans la maison de l'Éternel, le prêtre Hilkija trouva le livre de la loi de l'Éternel, donnée par Moïse.
When they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the scroll of the law of the LORD given by Moses.
15 Hilkija répondit à Shaphan, le scribe: « J'ai trouvé le livre de la loi dans la maison de l'Éternel. » Et Hilkija remit le livre à Shaphan.
Hilkiah answered Shaphan the scribe, "I have found the scroll of the law in the house of the LORD." Hilkiah delivered the scroll to Shaphan.
16 Shaphan porta le livre au roi, et rapporta de plus au roi la nouvelle suivante: « Tout ce qui avait été confié à tes serviteurs, ils l'ont fait.
Shaphan carried the scroll to the king, and moreover brought back word to the king, saying, "All that was committed to your servants, they are doing.
17 Ils ont vidé l'argent qui se trouvait dans la maison de l'Éternel et l'ont remis entre les mains des surveillants et entre les mains des ouvriers. »
They have emptied out the money that was found in the house of the LORD, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and into the hand of the workmen."
18 Shaphan, le scribe, informa le roi en disant: « Le prêtre Hilkija m'a remis un livre. » Shaphan en fit la lecture au roi.
Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a scroll." Shaphan read it before the king.
19 Lorsque le roi eut entendu les paroles de la loi, il déchira ses vêtements.
It happened, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he tore his clothes.
20 Le roi donna cet ordre à Hilkija, à Ahikam, fils de Shaphan, à Abdon, fils de Michée, à Shaphan, le scribe, et à Asaja, serviteur du roi:
The king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Acbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,
21 « Allez consulter l'Éternel pour moi et pour ceux qui restent en Israël et en Juda, au sujet des paroles du livre qui a été trouvé; car la colère de l'Éternel qui se répand sur nous est grande, parce que nos pères n'ont pas gardé la parole de l'Éternel, pour faire tout ce qui est écrit dans ce livre. »
"Go inquire of the LORD for me, and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according to all that is written in this scroll."
22 Et Hilkija et ceux que le roi avait ordonnés allèrent trouver Hulda la prophétesse, femme de Shallum, fils de Tokhath, fils de Hasrah, gardien de l'armoire (elle habitait à Jérusalem dans le deuxième quartier), et ils lui parlèrent en ce sens.
So Hilkiah and those whom the king had sent went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter; ) and they spoke to her to that effect.
23 Elle leur dit: « Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël, dit: 'Dis à l'homme qui t'a envoyé vers moi:
She said to them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'Tell the man who sent you to me,
24 « Yahvé dit: Voici que je vais faire venir le malheur sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants, toutes les malédictions qui sont écrites dans le livre qu'ils ont lu devant le roi de Juda.
"Thus says the LORD, 'Look, I will bring disaster on this place, and on its inhabitants, even all the curses that are written in the scroll which they have read before the king of Judah.
25 Parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné et qu'ils ont offert de l'encens à d'autres dieux, afin de m'irriter par toutes les œuvres de leurs mains, ma colère se répand sur ce lieu, et elle ne s'éteindra pas.
Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore is my wrath poured out on this place, and it shall not be quenched.'"'
26 Mais tu diras ceci au roi de Juda, qui t'a envoyé consulter Yahvé: « Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël, dit: « Au sujet des paroles que tu as entendues,
But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus you shall tell him, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: "As touching the words which you have heard,
27 parce que ton cœur s'est attendri et que tu t'es humilié devant Dieu en entendant ses paroles contre ce lieu et ses habitants, et que tu t'es humilié devant moi, que tu as déchiré tes vêtements et que tu as pleuré devant moi, moi aussi je t'ai entendu, dit Yahvé.
because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God, when you heard his words against this place, and against its inhabitants, and have humbled yourself before me, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you," says the LORD.
28 « Voici, je vous rassemblerai auprès de vos pères, et vous serez rassemblés en paix dans votre tombe. Vos yeux ne verront pas tout le mal que je vais faire venir sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants. »'" Ils ont rapporté ce message au roi.
"Look, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the disaster that I will bring on this place, and on its inhabitants."'" They brought back word to the king.
29 Alors le roi envoya convoquer tous les anciens de Juda et de Jérusalem.
Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.
30 Le roi monta à la maison de l'Éternel avec tous les hommes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem, les prêtres, les lévites et tout le peuple, grands et petits, et il lut devant eux toutes les paroles du livre de l'alliance qui se trouvait dans la maison de l'Éternel.
The king went up to the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, both great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the scroll of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.
31 Le roi se tint à sa place et fit alliance devant l'Éternel de marcher après l'Éternel et d'observer ses commandements, ses témoignages et ses lois de tout son cœur et de toute son âme, en accomplissant les paroles de l'alliance qui sont écrites dans ce livre.
The king stood in his place, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this scroll.
32 Il fit tenir debout tous ceux qui se trouvaient à Jérusalem et à Benjamin. Les habitants de Jérusalem agirent selon l'alliance de Dieu, le Dieu de leurs pères.
He caused all who were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand. The inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
33 Josias fit disparaître toutes les abominations de tous les pays qui appartenaient aux enfants d'Israël, et il obligea tous ceux qui se trouvaient en Israël à servir, à servir Yahvé leur Dieu. Pendant toute sa vie, ils ne s'écartèrent pas de la voie de Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères.
Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all who were found in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. All his days they did not depart from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.
