2 Chroniques 28
1 Achaz avait vingt ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna seize ans à Jérusalem. Il ne fit pas ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel, comme David, son père,
Achaz was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem: and he did not that which was right in the sight of the Lord, as David his father.
2 mais il marcha dans les voies des rois d'Israël, et il fit aussi des images en fonte pour les Baals.
But he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, for he made graven images.
3 Il brûlait des parfums dans la vallée de Hinnom, et il brûlait ses enfants au feu, selon les abominations des nations que l'Éternel avait chassées devant les enfants d'Israël.
And [he sacrificed] to their idols in the valley of Benennom, and passed his children through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord cast out from before the children of Israel.
4 Il offrait des sacrifices et brûlait des parfums sur les hauts lieux, sur les collines et sous tout arbre vert.
And he burnt incense upon the high places, and upon the roofs, and under every shady tree.
5 Yahvé, son Dieu, le livra entre les mains du roi de Syrie. Ils l'ont frappé, ont enlevé de lui une grande multitude de captifs, et les ont amenés à Damas. Il fut aussi livré entre les mains du roi d'Israël, qui le frappa par une grande défaite.
And the Lord his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and he struck him, and took captive of them a great band of prisoners, and carried him to Damascus. Also [God] delivered him into the hands of the king of Israel, who struck him with a great slaughter.
6 Car Pékah, fils de Remalia, tua en Juda, en un seul jour, cent vingt mille hommes, tous vaillants, parce qu'ils avaient abandonné Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères.
And Phakee the son of Romelias king of Israel, killed in Juda in one day a hundred and twenty thousand mighty men; because they had forsaken the Lord God of their fathers.
7 Zichri, un homme fort d'Éphraïm, tua Maaséja, fils du roi, Azrikam, chef de la maison, et Elkana, qui était près du roi.
And Zechri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maasias the king's son, and Ezrican the chief of his house, and Elcana the king's deputy.
8 Les enfants d'Israël emmenèrent captifs de leurs frères deux cent mille femmes, fils et filles, et ils leur prirent aussi beaucoup de butin, qu'ils apportèrent à Samarie.
And the children of Israel took captive of their brethren three hundred thousand, women, and sons, and daughters, and they spoiled them of much property, and brought the spoils to Samaria.
9 Il y avait là un prophète de Yahvé, du nom d'Oded, qui alla à la rencontre de l'armée venue à Samarie et lui dit: « Voici, parce que Yahvé, le Dieu de vos pères, s'est irrité contre Juda, il les a livrés entre vos mains, et vous les avez tués dans une colère qui est montée jusqu'au ciel.
And there was there a prophet of the Lord, his name [was] Oded: and he went out to meet the host that were coming to Samaria, and said to them, Behold, the wrath of the Lord God of your fathers [is] upon Juda, and he has delivered them into your hands, and you have slain them in wrath, and it has reached even to heaven.
10 Maintenant, vous avez l'intention d'avilir les enfants de Juda et de Jérusalem pour en faire des esclaves mâles et femelles pour vous-mêmes. N'y a-t-il pas chez vous des fautes personnelles contre Yahvé votre Dieu?
And now you talk of keeping the children of Juda and Jerusalem for servants and handmaidens. Behold, am I not with you to testify for the Lord your God?
11 Maintenant, écoutez-moi et renvoyez les captifs que vous avez emmenés de vos frères, car l'ardeur de la colère de Yahvé est sur vous. »
And now listen to me, and restore the prisoners of your brethren whom you have taken: for the fierce anger of the Lord [is] upon you.
12 Alors quelques-uns des chefs des fils d'Éphraïm, Azaria, fils de Jochanan, Bérékia, fils de Meshillemoth, Jehizkia, fils de Shallum, et Amasa, fils de Hadlaï, se dressèrent contre ceux qui venaient de la guerre,
And the chiefs of the sons of Ephraim rose up, Udias the son of Joanas, and Barachias the son of Mosolamoth, and Ezekias the son of Sellem, and Amasias the son of Eldai, against those that came from the war,
13 et leur dirent: « Vous ne devez pas faire entrer ici les captifs, car vous avez l'intention de faire peser sur nous une faute contre Yahvé, d'ajouter à nos péchés et à notre culpabilité; Car notre culpabilité est grande, et la colère est vive contre Israël. »
and said to them, You shall not bring in hither the prisoners to us, for whereas sin against the Lord [is] upon us, you mean to add to our sins, and to our trespass: for our sin [is] great, and the fierce anger of the Lord [is] upon Israel.
14 Les hommes armés laissèrent donc les captifs et le butin devant les princes et toute l'assemblée.
So the warriors left the prisoners and the spoils before the princes and all the congregation.
15 Les hommes nommés se levèrent et prirent les captifs; avec le butin, ils vêtirent tous ceux d'entre eux qui étaient nus, les habillèrent, leur donnèrent des sandales, leur donnèrent à manger et à boire, les oignirent, portèrent sur des ânes tous ceux qui étaient chétifs, et les amenèrent à Jéricho, la ville des palmiers, auprès de leurs frères. Puis ils retournèrent à Samarie.
And the men who were called by name rose up, and took hold of the prisoners, and clothed all the naked from the spoils, and gave them garments and shoes, and gave them [food] to eat, and [oil] to anoint themselves [with], and they helped also every one that was weak with asses, and placed them in Jericho, the city of palm-trees, with their brethren; and they returned to Samaria.
16 En ce temps-là, le roi Achaz envoya demander aux rois d'Assyrie de lui venir en aide.
At that time king Achaz sent to the king of Assyria to help him, and on this occasion,
17 Car les Édomites étaient encore venus, avaient frappé Juda et emmené des captifs.
because the Idumeans had attacked [him], and struck Juda, and taken a number of prisoners.
18 Les Philistins avaient aussi envahi les villes de la plaine et du midi de Juda, et ils s'étaient emparés de Beth Shemesh, d'Aijalon, de Gederoth, de Soco et de ses villages, de Timna et de ses villages, de Gimzo et de ses villages, et ils y habitaient.
Also the Philistines had made an attack on the cities of the plain country, and the cities of the south of Juda, and taken Baethsamys, and [the things in the house of the Lord, and the things in the house of the king, and of the princes: and they gave to the king] Aelon, and Galero, and Socho and her villages, and Thamna and her villages, and Gamzo and her villages: and they lived there.
19 Car l'Éternel a abaissé Juda à cause d'Achaz, roi d'Israël, parce qu'il a agi sans retenue en Juda et s'est rendu coupable d'un grave délit contre l'Éternel.
For the Lord humbled Juda because of Achaz king of Juda, because he grievously departed from the Lord.
20 Tilgath-Pilnéser, roi d'Assyrie, vint à lui et lui fit des difficultés, mais il ne le fortifia pas.
And there came against him Thalgaphellasar king of Assyria, and he afflicted him.
21 Car Achaz prit une part de la maison de l'Éternel, de la maison du roi et des princes, et la donna au roi d'Assyrie; mais cela ne lui fut d'aucun secours.
And Achaz took the things [that were] in the house of the Lord, and the things in the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave them to the king of Assyria: but he was no help to him,
22 Au temps de sa détresse, il a encore péché contre Yahvé, ce même roi Achaz.
but only [troubled him] in his affliction: and he departed yet more from the Lord, and king Achaz said,
23 Car il a sacrifié aux dieux de Damas qui l'avaient vaincu. Il disait: « Puisque les dieux des rois de Syrie les ont aidés, je leur sacrifierai, afin qu'ils m'aident. » Mais ils furent sa ruine et celle de tout Israël.
I will seek after the gods of Damascus that strike me. And he said, Forasmuch as the gods of the king of Syria themselves strengthen them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, and they will help me. But they became a stumbling block to him, and to all Israel.
24 Achaz rassembla les ustensiles de la maison de Dieu, mit en pièces les ustensiles de la maison de Dieu et ferma les portes de la maison de Yahvé; il se fit des autels dans tous les coins de Jérusalem.
And Achaz removed the vessels of the house of the Lord, and cut them in pieces, and shut the doors of the house of the Lord, and made to himself altars in every corner in Jerusalem:
25 Dans toutes les villes de Juda, il se fit des hauts lieux pour offrir des parfums à d'autres dieux, et il irrita Yahvé, le Dieu de ses pères.
and in each several city in Juda he made high places to burn incense to strange gods: and they provoked the Lord God of their fathers.
26 Le reste de ses actes et toutes ses voies, les premiers et les derniers, sont écrits dans le livre des rois de Juda et d'Israël.
And the rest of his acts, and his deeds, the first and the last, behold, [they are] written in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel.
27 Achaz se coucha avec ses pères, et on l'enterra dans la ville, à Jérusalem, parce qu'on ne l'avait pas fait entrer dans les tombeaux des rois d'Israël; et Ézéchias, son fils, régna à sa place.
And Achaz slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David; for they did not bring him into the sepulchres of the kings of Israel: and Ezekias his son reigned in his stead.
