1 Timothée 1

1 Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ, selon le commandement de Dieu notre Sauveur et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ notre espérance,

Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God, our Saviour, and of the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope;

2 à Timothée, mon véritable enfant dans la foi: Grâce, miséricorde et paix de la part de Dieu notre Père et du Christ Jésus notre Seigneur.

to Timothy, my own son in the faith: Favor, mercy, and peace from God our Father, and from Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 Comme je vous en ai prié lorsque j'allais en Macédoine, restez à Éphèse, afin d'ordonner à certains hommes de ne pas enseigner une doctrine différente,

As I entreated you to continue in Ephesus, when going into Macedonia, that you may charge some not to teach differently,

4 et de ne pas s'attacher à des mythes et à des généalogies sans fin, qui provoquent des disputes plutôt qu'à l'intendance de Dieu, qui est dans la foi.

nor to give heed to fables, and endless genealogies, which occasion disputes rather than godly edification, which is through faith;

5 Or, le but de ce commandement, c'est l'amour venant d'un cœur pur, d'une bonne conscience et d'une foi sincère,

(now the end of the charge is love, from a pure heart, and a good conscience, and unfeigned faith:

6 choses dont quelques-uns, ayant manqué le but, se sont détournés pour se livrer à de vains discours,

from which things some having swerved, have turned aside to foolish talking; )

7 voulant être docteurs de la loi, bien qu'ils ne comprennent ni ce qu'ils disent ni ce qu'ils affirment avec force.

desiring to be teachers of the law, neither understanding what they say, nor the things about which they are so positive.

8 Mais nous savons que la loi est bonne, si quelqu'un en fait un usage légitime,

We know, indeed, that the law is good, if one use it lawfully;

9 sachant que la loi n'a pas été faite pour un juste, mais pour les impies et les insubordonnés, pour les impies et les pécheurs, pour les impies et les profanes, pour les meurtriers de pères et les meurtriers de mères, pour les meurtriers d'hommes,

knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disorderly, the ungodly and sinners, the unholy and profane; murderers of fathers, and murderers of mothers, manslayers,

10 pour les impudiques, pour les homosexuels, pour les esclavagistes, pour les menteurs, pour les parjures, et pour toute autre chose contraire à la saine doctrine,

fornicators, sodomites, manstealers, liars, false swearers, and if any other thing be opposite to wholesome doctrine;

11 selon la Bonne Nouvelle de la gloire du Dieu béni, qui m'a été confiée.

according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I am intrusted.

12 Je rends grâces à celui qui m'a rendu capable, le Christ Jésus notre Seigneur, parce qu'il m'a compté parmi les fidèles, en me nommant au service,

Now, I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has qualified me, that he reckoned me faithful, appointing me to the ministry,

13 bien que j'aie été autrefois un blasphémateur, un persécuteur et un insolent. Mais j'ai obtenu miséricorde, parce que j'ai agi par ignorance, dans l'incrédulité.

who was formerly a defamer, and a persecutor, and an injurious person. But I received mercy, because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;

14 La grâce de notre Seigneur a surabondé par la foi et la charité qui est dans le Christ Jésus.

and the favor of the Lord has superabounded, with the faith and love which is by Christ Jesus.

15 La parole est fidèle et digne d'être accueillie, que Jésus-Christ est venu dans le monde pour sauver les pécheurs, dont je suis le premier.

This saying is true, and worthy of all reception, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

16 Mais c'est pour cela que j'ai obtenu miséricorde, afin qu'en moi d'abord, Jésus-Christ déploie toute sa patience pour servir d'exemple à ceux qui allaient croire en lui pour la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)

However, for this cause I received mercy, that in me, the chief of sinners, Jesus Christ might show forth all long-suffering, for a pattern to them who should believe on him, in order to everlasting life. (aiōnios g166)

17 Maintenant, au Roi éternel, immortel, invisible, à Dieu qui seul est sage, honneur et gloire dans les siècles des siècles. Amen. (aiōn g165)

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God alone, be honor and glory, for ever and ever. Amen. (aiōn g165)

18 Je te confie cette instruction, mon enfant Timothée, selon les prophéties qui t'ont été données auparavant, afin que, par elles, tu fasses le bon combat,

This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before you, concerning you, that we may carry on, through them, the good warfare;

19 en gardant la foi et la bonne conscience, que quelques-uns ont rejetées et qui ont fait naufrage dans la foi,

holding fast faith and a good conscience; which some have put away, with respect to the faith, having made shipwreck:

20 parmi lesquels sont Hyménée et Alexandre, que j'ai livrés à Satan pour qu'il leur enseigne à ne pas blasphémer.

of whom are Hymeneus and Alexander, whom I have delivered to the adversary, that they might be taught by chastisement not to blaspheme.
