1 Samuel 9
1 Il y avait un homme de Benjamin, nommé Kish, fils d'Abiel, fils de Zeror, fils de Becorath, fils d'Aphia, fils d'un Benjamite, homme puissant et vaillant.
And there is a man of Benjamin, and his name [is] Kish, son of Abiel, son of Zeror, son of Bechorath, son of Aphiah, a Benjamite, a mighty man of valor,
2 Il avait un fils qui s'appelait Saül, un jeune homme impressionnant; et il n'y avait pas parmi les enfants d'Israël une personne plus belle que lui. Il était plus grand que tous les autres, à partir des épaules et au-dessus.
and he has a son, and his name [is] Saul, a choice youth and handsome, and there is not a man among the sons of Israel more handsome than he—from his shoulder and upward, higher than any of the people.
3 Les ânes de Kish, père de Saül, étaient perdus. Kish dit à Saül, son fils: « Prends maintenant avec toi un des serviteurs, et lève-toi, va chercher les ânes. »
And the donkeys of Kish, father of Saul, are lost, and Kish says to his son Saul, “Now take one of the young men with you, and rise, go, seek the donkeys.”
4 Il traversa la montagne d'Ephraïm et passa par le pays de Shalisha, mais ils ne les trouvèrent pas. Puis ils passèrent par le pays de Shaalim, et ils ne les trouvèrent pas. Puis il passa par le pays des Benjamites, mais ils ne les trouvèrent pas.
And he passes over through the hill-country of Ephraim, and passes over through the land of Shalisha, and they have not found [them]; and they pass over through the land of Shaalim, and they are not; and he passes over through the land of Benjamin, and they have not found [them].
5 Lorsqu'ils furent arrivés au pays de Zuph, Saül dit à son serviteur qui était avec lui: « Viens! Rentrons, de peur que mon père ne cesse de se préoccuper des ânes et ne s'inquiète pour nous. »
They have come to the land of Zuph, and Saul has said to his young man who [is] with him, “Come, and we return, lest my father leave off from the donkeys, and has been sorrowful for us.”
6 Le serviteur lui dit: « Voici qu'il y a un homme de Dieu dans cette ville, et c'est un homme qui est honoré. Tout ce qu'il dit arrive sûrement. Allons-y maintenant. Il pourra peut-être nous indiquer le chemin à suivre. »
And he says to him, “Now behold, a man of God [is] in this city, and the man is honored; all that he speaks certainly comes; now, we go there, it may be he declares to us our way on which we have gone.”
7 Alors Saül dit à son serviteur: « Mais voici, si nous partons, que devons-nous apporter à cet homme? Car le pain est épuisé dans nos sacs, et il n'y a pas de présent à apporter à l'homme de Dieu. Qu'avons-nous? »
And Saul says to his young man, “And behold, we go, and what do we bring to the man? For the bread has gone from our vessels, and there is no present to bring to the man of God—what [is] with us?”
8 Le serviteur répondit de nouveau à Saül et dit: « Voici, j'ai dans ma main la quatrième partie d'un sicle d'argent. Je vais donner cela à l'homme de Dieu, pour qu'il nous indique notre chemin. »
And the young man adds to answer Saul and says, “Behold, there is found a fourth of a shekel of silver with me: and I have given to the man of God, and he has declared our way to us.”
9 (Autrefois, en Israël, lorsqu'un homme allait consulter Dieu, il disait: « Viens! Allons chez le voyant », car celui qu'on appelle maintenant prophète était auparavant appelé voyant).
Formerly in Israel, thus said the man in his going to seek God: “Come and we go to the seer.” For the “prophet” of today is formerly called “the seer.”
10 Alors Saül dit à son serviteur: « Bien dit. Viens! Allons-y. » Ils se rendirent donc à la ville où se trouvait l'homme de Dieu.
And Saul says to his young man, “Your word [is] good; come, we go”; and they go to the city where the man of God [is].
11 Comme ils montaient la montée vers la ville, ils trouvèrent des jeunes filles qui sortaient pour puiser de l'eau, et ils leur dirent: « Le voyant est-il ici? ».
They are going up in the ascent of the city, and have found young women going out to draw water, and say to them, “Is the seer in this [place]?”
12 Ils leur répondirent et dirent: « Il l'est. Le voici, il est devant vous. Dépêchez-vous, car il est entré aujourd'hui dans la ville, car le peuple offre aujourd'hui un sacrifice sur le haut lieu.
And they answer them and say, “He is; behold, before you! Hurry, now, for he has come to the city today, for the people [have] a sacrifice today in a high place.
13 Dès que vous serez entrés dans la ville, vous le trouverez immédiatement avant qu'il ne monte sur le haut lieu pour manger, car le peuple ne mange pas avant qu'il n'arrive, car il bénit le sacrifice. Ensuite, ceux qui sont invités mangent. Monte donc maintenant, car c'est à cette heure que tu le trouveras. »
At your going into the city so you find him, before he goes up to the high place to eat; for the people do not eat until his coming, for he blesses the sacrifice; afterward, they who are called eat, and now, go up, for you should find him at this time.”
14 Ils montèrent dans la ville. Comme ils entraient dans la ville, voici que Samuel sortit vers eux pour monter sur le haut lieu.
And they go up to the city; they are coming into the midst of the city, and behold, Samuel is coming out to meet them, to go up to the high place;
15 Un jour avant l'arrivée de Saül, Yahvé avait fait cette révélation à Samuel:
and YHWH had uncovered the ear of Samuel one day before the coming of Saul, saying,
16 « Demain, à cette heure-ci, je t'enverrai un homme du pays de Benjamin, et tu l'oindras comme prince de mon peuple d'Israël. Il sauvera mon peuple de la main des Philistins, car j'ai regardé mon peuple, parce que son cri est venu jusqu'à moi. »
“At this time tomorrow, I send to you a man out of the land of Benjamin—and you have anointed him for leader over My people Israel, and he has saved My people out of the hand of the Philistines; for I have seen My people, for its cry has come to Me.”
17 Lorsque Samuel vit Saül, Yahvé lui dit: « Voici l'homme dont je t'ai parlé! Il aura autorité sur mon peuple. »
When Samuel has seen Saul, then YHWH has answered him, “Behold, the man of whom I have spoken to you; this [one] restrains My people.”
18 Alors Saül s'approcha de Samuel dans la porte et dit: « Dis-moi où se trouve la maison du voyant. »
And Saul draws near to Samuel in the midst of the gate and says, “Please declare to me where this seer’s house [is].”
19 Samuel prit la parole et dit à Saül: « Je suis le voyant. Monte devant moi sur le haut lieu, car tu dois manger avec moi aujourd'hui. Demain matin, je te laisserai partir et je te dirai tout ce que tu as sur le cœur.
And Samuel answers Saul and says, “I [am] the seer; go up before me into the high place, and you have eaten with me today, and I have sent you away in the morning, and all that [is] in your heart I declare to you.
20 Quant à tes ânes qui se sont perdus il y a trois jours, ne t'y attarde pas, car ils ont été retrouvés. A qui tout Israël pense-t-il? N'est-ce pas toi et toute la maison de ton père? »
And as for the donkeys which are lost from you [for] three days as of today, do not set your heart to them, for they have been found; and to whom [is] all the desire of Israel? Is it not to you and to all your father’s house?”
21 Saül répondit: « Ne suis-je pas un Benjamite, de la plus petite des tribus d'Israël? Et ma famille, la plus petite de toutes les familles de la tribu de Benjamin? Pourquoi donc me parlez-vous ainsi? »
And Saul answers and says, “Am I not a Benjamite—of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? And why have you spoken to me according to this word?”
22 Samuel prit Saül et son serviteur, les fit entrer dans la salle des invités et les fit asseoir à la meilleure place parmi ceux qui étaient invités, soit environ trente personnes.
And Samuel takes Saul, and his young man, and brings them into the chamber, and gives a place to them at the head of those called; and they [are] about thirty men.
23 Samuel dit au cuisinier: « Apporte la portion que je t'ai donnée et dont je t'ai dit: « Mets-la de côté ».
And Samuel says to the cook, “Give the portion which I gave to you, of which I said to you, Set it by you.”
24 Le cuisinier prit la cuisse et ce qui était dessus, et la mit devant Saül. Samuel dit: « Voici ce qui a été mis de côté! Mets-le devant toi et mange, car on te l'a réservé pour le temps fixé, car j'ai dit: « J'ai invité le peuple. » Saül mangea donc avec Samuel ce jour-là.
(And the cook lifts up the leg, and that which [is] on it, and sets [it] before Saul), and he says, “Behold, that which is left; [it] is set before your face—eat, for it is kept for you for this appointed time, [at my] saying, I have called the people”; and Saul eats with Samuel on that day.
25 Lorsqu'ils furent descendus du haut lieu dans la ville, il s'entretint avec Saül sur le toit de la maison.
And they come down from the high place to the city, and he speaks with Saul on the roof.
26 Ils se levèrent de bonne heure et, au lever du jour, Samuel appela Saül sur le toit en disant: « Lève-toi, que je te renvoie. » Saül se leva, et ils sortirent tous les deux, lui et Samuel, ensemble.
And they rise early, and it comes to pass, at the ascending of the dawn, that Samuel calls to Saul, on the roof, saying, “Rise, and I send you away”; and Saul rises, and they go out, both of them—he and Samuel, outside.
27 Comme ils descendaient à l'extrémité de la ville, Samuel dit à Saül: « Dis au serviteur de nous précéder ». Il partit devant, puis Samuel dit: « Mais d'abord, tiens-toi tranquille, afin que je te fasse entendre le message de Dieu. »
They are going down in the extremity of the city, and Samuel has said to Saul, “Say to the young man that he should pass on before us (and he passes on), and you, stand at this time, and I cause you to hear the word of God.”
