1 Samuel 3

1 L'enfant Samuel fait le service de Yahvé devant Eli. La parole de Yahvé était rare en ce temps-là. Il n'y avait pas beaucoup de visions, alors.

And the boy Samuel ministered to Jehovah before Eli. And the word of Jehovah was rare in those days; a vision was not frequent.

2 En ce temps-là, comme Éli était couché à sa place (ses yeux avaient commencé à s'affaiblir, de sorte qu'il ne voyait plus),

And it came to pass at that time, when Eli lay in his place (now his eyes began to grow dim, he could not see),

3 et que la lampe de Dieu ne s'était pas encore éteinte, et que Samuel s'était couché dans le temple de Yahvé, là où se trouvait l'arche de Dieu,

and the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel lay in the temple of Jehovah, where the ark of God was,

4 Yahvé appela Samuel. Il dit: « Me voici. »

that Jehovah called to Samuel. And he said, Here am I.

5 Il courut vers Eli et dit: « Me voici, car tu m'as appelé. » Il a dit: « Je n'ai pas appelé. Allonge-toi à nouveau. » Il alla se coucher.

And he ran to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I did not call: lie down again. And he went and lay down.

6 Yahvé appela de nouveau: « Samuel! » Samuel se leva, alla vers Eli et dit: « Me voici, car tu m'as appelé. » Il a répondu: « Je n'ai pas appelé, mon fils. Recouche-toi. »

And Jehovah called again, Samuel! And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I did not call, my son: lie down again.

7 Or Samuel ne connaissait pas encore Yahvé, et la parole de Yahvé ne lui avait pas encore été révélée.

Now Samuel did not yet know Jehovah, neither had the word of Jehovah yet been revealed to him.

8 Yahvé appela Samuel pour la troisième fois. Il se leva, alla vers Eli et dit: « Me voici, car tu m'as appelé. » Eli comprit que Yahvé avait appelé l'enfant.

And Jehovah called again the third time, Samuel! And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And Eli perceived that Jehovah was calling the boy.

9 Alors Éli dit à Samuel: « Va te coucher. S'il t'appelle, tu diras: « Parle, Yahvé, car ton serviteur entend. » Samuel alla donc se coucher à sa place.

And Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down; and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Jehovah, for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

10 Yahvé vint, se tint debout et appela comme les autres fois: « Samuel! Samuel! » Alors Samuel dit: « Parle, car ton serviteur entend. »

And Jehovah came, and stood, and called as at the other times, Samuel, Samuel! And Samuel said, Speak, for thy servant heareth.

11 Yahvé dit à Samuel: « Voici, je vais faire en Israël une chose à laquelle les deux oreilles de tous ceux qui l'entendront vibreront.

And Jehovah said to Samuel, Behold, I do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

12 En ce jour-là, j'accomplirai contre Eli tout ce que j'ai dit au sujet de sa maison, depuis le début jusqu'à la fin.

In that day I will perform against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house; I will begin and make an end.

13 Car je lui ai dit que je jugerai sa maison pour toujours, à cause de l'iniquité qu'il a connue, parce que ses fils ont attiré la malédiction sur eux, et qu'il ne les a pas retenus.

For I have declared to him that I will judge his house for ever, for the iniquity which he hath known: because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

14 C'est pourquoi j'ai juré à la maison d'Eli que l'iniquité de la maison d'Eli ne sera pas effacée à jamais par un sacrifice ou une offrande. »

And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be expiated with sacrifice or oblation for ever.

15 Samuel resta couché jusqu'au matin, puis il ouvrit les portes de la maison de Yahvé. Samuel avait peur de montrer la vision à Eli.

And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of Jehovah. And Samuel feared to declare the vision to Eli.

16 Alors Eli appela Samuel et dit: « Samuel, mon fils! » Il a dit: « Je suis là. »

And Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he said, Here am I.

17 Il dit: « Quelle est la chose qu'il t'a dite? Ne me la cachez pas, je vous prie. Que Dieu te fasse ainsi, et plus encore, si tu me caches quoi que ce soit de tout ce qu'il t'a dit. »

And he said, What is the word that he has spoken to thee? I pray thee, keep it not back from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou keep back anything from me of all the word that he spoke to thee.

18 Samuel lui raconta tout, et ne lui cacha rien. Il a dit: « C'est Yahvé. Qu'il fasse ce qui lui semble bon. »

And Samuel told him all the words, and kept nothing back from him. And he said, It is Jehovah: let him do what is good in his sight.

19 Samuel grandissait, et l'Éternel était avec lui; il ne laissait tomber à terre aucune de ses paroles.

And Samuel grew, and Jehovah was with him, and let none of his words fall to the ground.

20 Tout Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersheba, savait que Samuel avait été établi comme prophète de Yahvé.

And all Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, knew that Samuel was established a prophet of Jehovah.

21 Yahvé apparut de nouveau à Silo, car Yahvé s'était révélé à Samuel à Silo par la parole de Yahvé.

And Jehovah appeared again at Shiloh; for Jehovah revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of Jehovah.
