1 Corinthiens 13
1 Si je parle les langues des hommes et des anges, mais que je n'aie pas la charité, je ne suis qu'un cuivre qui résonne ou une cymbale qui retentit.
If I can speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but am destitute of Love, I have but become a loud-sounding trumpet or a clanging cymbal.
2 Si j'ai le don de prophétie, si je connais tous les mystères et toute la science, si j'ai toute la foi pour transporter les montagnes, mais que je n'aie pas la charité, je ne suis rien.
If I possess the gift of prophecy and am versed in all mysteries and all knowledge, and have such absolute faith that I can remove mountains, but am destitute of Love, I am nothing.
3 Si je donne tous mes biens pour nourrir les pauvres, et si je livre mon corps pour être brûlé, mais que je n'aie pas la charité, cela ne me sert de rien.
And if I distribute all my possessions to the poor, and give up my body to be burned, but am destitute of Love, it profits me nothing.
4 L'amour est patient et il est bon. L'amour n'est pas envieux. L'amour ne se vante pas, n'est pas orgueilleux,
Love is patient and kind. Love knows neither envy nor jealousy. Love is not forward and self-assertive, nor boastful and conceited.
5 ne se conduit pas de manière inconvenante, ne cherche pas son propre chemin, ne se laisse pas provoquer, ne tient pas compte du mal;
She does not behave unbecomingly, nor seek to aggrandize herself, nor blaze out in passionate anger, nor brood over wrongs.
6 ne se réjouit pas de l'injustice, mais se réjouit de la vérité;
She finds no pleasure in injustice done to others, but joyfully sides with the truth.
7 excuse tout, croit tout, espère tout, et supporte tout.
She knows how to be silent. She is full of trust, full of hope, full of patient endurance.
8 L'amour ne fait jamais défaut. Mais là où il y a des prophéties, elles seront supprimées. Là où il y a des langues diverses, elles cesseront. Là où il y a de la connaissance, elle disparaîtra.
Love never fails. But if there are prophecies, they will be done away with; if there are languages, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be brought to an end.
9 Car nous connaissons en partie et nous prophétisons en partie;
For our knowledge is imperfect, and so is our prophesying;
10 mais quand ce qui est complet sera arrivé, ce qui est partiel disparaîtra.
but when the perfect state of things is come, all that is imperfect will be brought to an end.
11 Quand j'étais enfant, je parlais comme un enfant, je sentais comme un enfant, je pensais comme un enfant. Maintenant que je suis devenu un homme, je me suis débarrassé des choses enfantines.
When I was a child, I talked like a child, felt like a child, reasoned like a child: when I became a man, I put from me childish ways.
12 Car maintenant nous voyons dans un miroir, faiblement, mais ensuite face à face. Maintenant je connais en partie, mais alors je connaîtrai pleinement, comme j'ai aussi été pleinement connu.
For the present we see things as if in a mirror, and are puzzled; but then we shall see them face to face. For the present the knowledge I gain is imperfect; but then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 Mais maintenant, il reste la foi, l'espérance et la charité, ces trois-là. Le plus grand d'entre eux est l'amour.
And so there remain Faith, Hope, Love--these three; and of these the greatest is Love.
