Psalmien 33
1 Riemuitkaa Herrassa, te vanhurskaat. Oikeamielisten on soveliasta häntä kiittää.
Be joyful, O ye righteous, in the Lord; [for] unto the righteous praise is comely.
2 Ylistäkää Herraa kanteleilla, soittakaa hänelle kymmenkielisillä harpuilla.
Give thanks unto the Lord with the harp: with the ten-stringed psaltery do ye sing [praises] unto him.
3 Veisatkaa hänelle uusi virsi, helkyttäkää kieliä ihanasti ja riemullisesti.
Sing unto him a new song; play beautifully amidst a triumphant shout.
4 Sillä Herran sana on oikea, ja kaikki hänen tekonsa ovat tehdyt uskollisuudessa.
For the word of the Lord is upright; and all his works [are done] in truth.
5 Hän rakastaa vanhurskautta ja oikeutta; maa on täynnänsä Herran armoa.
He loveth righteousness and justice: the earth is full of the kindness of the Lord.
6 Herran sanalla ovat taivaat tehdyt, ja kaikki niiden joukot hänen suunsa hengellä.
By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
7 Hän kokoaa meren vedet niinkuin roukkioksi, panee syvyydet säiliöihin.
He gathereth together like heaps the waters of the sea: he layeth up in store-houses the depths [of the sea].
8 Peljätköön Herraa kaikki maa, hänen edessänsä vaviskoot kaikki maanpiirin asukkaat.
Let all the earth fear the Lord: of him stand in awe all the inhabitants of the world.
9 Sillä hän sanoi, ja tapahtui niin, hän käski, ja se oli tehty.
For he spoke, and it came into being: he commanded, and it stood fast.
10 Herra särkee pakanain neuvon, tekee turhiksi kansojen aikeet.
The Lord frustrateth the resolves of the nations: he bringeth to nought the thoughts of the people.
11 Mutta Herran neuvo pysyy iankaikkisesti, hänen sydämensä aivoitukset suvusta sukuun.
The counsel of the Lord will stand for ever, the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation.
12 Autuas se kansa, jonka Jumala Herra on, se kansa, jonka hän on perinnöksensä valinnut!
Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he hath chosen for himself as a heritage.
13 Herra katsoo alas taivaasta, näkee kaikki ihmislapset;
The Lord looketh from heaven; he seeth all the sons of men.
14 asumuksestaan, valtaistuimeltaan hän katselee kaikkia maan asukkaita,
From the place of his habitation he directeth his view upon all the inhabitants of the earth;
15 hän, joka on luonut kaikkien heidän sydämensä, joka tarkkaa kaikkia heidän tekojansa.
He fashioneth their hearts altogether; he hath regard to all their works.
16 Ei kuningas voita paljolla väellänsä, ei sankari pelastu suurella voimallansa.
The king is not saved by the multitude of an army: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
17 Turha on sotaratsu auttajaksi, ei pelasta sen suuri väkevyys.
Vain is the horse for victory: nor shall he deliver any by the greatness of his strength.
18 Katso, Herran silmä valvoo niitä, jotka häntä pelkäävät ja panevat toivonsa hänen laupeuteensa,
Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those that fear him, upon those that hope for his kindness.
19 pelastaaksensa heidän sielunsa kuolemasta, elättääksensä heitä nälän aikana.
To deliver from death their soul, and to keep them alive in famine.
20 Meidän sielumme odottaa Herraa, hän on meidän apumme ja kilpemme.
Our soul waiteth for the Lord: our help and our shield is he.
21 Sillä hänessä iloitsee meidän sydämemme, me turvaamme hänen pyhään nimeensä.
For in him shall our heart rejoice: because in his holy name have we trusted.
22 Sinun armosi, Herra, olkoon meidän päällämme, niinkuin me panemme toivomme sinuun.
Let thy kindness, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in thee.
