Sananlaskujen 8
1 Eikö viisaus kutsu, eikö taito anna äänensä kuulua?
Doth not wisdom call? And understanding give forth her voice?
2 Ylös kummuille, tien viereen, polkujen risteyksiin hän on asettunut.
At the head of high places by the way, Between the paths she hath stood,
3 Porttien pielissä, kaupungin portilla, oviaukoissa hän huutaa:
At the side of the gates, at the mouth of the city, The entrance of the openings, she crieth aloud,
4 "Teitä minä kutsun, miehet, ja ihmislapsille kaikuu minun ääneni.
'Unto you, O men, I call, And my voice [is] unto the sons of men.
5 Tulkaa, yksinkertaiset, mieleviksi; tulkaa järkeviksi, te tyhmät.
Understand, ye simple ones, prudence, And ye fools, understand the heart,
6 Kuulkaa, sillä jalosti minä puhun, ja avaan huuleni puhumaan, mikä oikein on;
Hearken, for noble things I speak, And the opening of my lips [is] uprightness.
7 sillä totuutta minun suuni haastaa, ja jumalattomuus on minun huulilleni kauhistus.
For truth doth my mouth utter, And an abomination to my lips [is] wickedness.
8 Vanhurskaat ovat minun suuni sanat kaikki, ei ole niissä mitään petollista, ei väärää.
In righteousness [are] all the sayings of my mouth, Nothing in them is froward and perverse.
9 Ne ovat kaikki oikeat ymmärtäväiselle, suorat niille, jotka löysivät tiedon.
All of them [are] plain to the intelligent, And upright to those finding knowledge.
10 Ottakaa minun kuritukseni, älkääkä hopeata, ja tieto ennen valituinta kultaa.
Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold.
11 Sillä parempi on viisaus kuin helmet, eivät mitkään kalleudet vedä sille vertaa.
For better [is] wisdom than rubies, Yea, all delights are not comparable with it.
12 Minä, viisaus, olen perehtynyt mielevyyteen, olen löytänyt tiedon ja taidollisuuden.
I, wisdom, have dwelt with prudence, And a knowledge of devices I find out.
13 Herran pelko on pahan vihaamista. Kopeutta ja ylpeyttä, pahaa tietä ja kavalaa suuta minä vihaan.
The fear of Jehovah [is] to hate evil; Pride, and arrogance, and an evil way, And a froward mouth, I have hated.
14 Minulla on neuvo ja neuvokkuus; minä olen ymmärrys, minulla on voima.
Mine [is] counsel and substance, I [am] understanding, I have might.
15 Minun avullani kuninkaat hallitsevat, ruhtinaat säädöksensä vanhurskaasti säätävät.
By me kings reign, and princes decree righteousness,
16 Minun avullani päämiehet vallitsevat ja ylhäiset, maan tuomarit kaikki.
By me do chiefs rule, and nobles, All judges of the earth.
17 Minä rakastan niitä, jotka minua rakastavat, ja jotka minua varhain etsivät, ne löytävät minut.
I love those loving me, And those seeking me earnestly do find me.
18 Minun tykönäni on rikkaus ja kunnia, ikivanha varallisuus ja vanhurskaus.
Wealth and honour [are] with me, Lasting substance and righteousness.
19 Minun hedelmäni on parempi kuin kulta, kuin puhtain kulta, minun antamani voitto valituinta hopeata parempi.
Better [is] my fruit than gold, even fine gold, And mine increase than choice silver.
20 Minä vaellan vanhurskauden polkua, oikeuden teitten keskikohtaa,
In a path of righteousness I cause to walk, In midst of paths of judgment,
21 antaakseni niille, jotka minua rakastavat, pysyvän perinnön ja täyttääkseni heidän aarrekammionsa.
To cause my lovers to inherit substance, Yea, their treasures I fill.
22 Herra loi minut töittensä esikoiseksi, ensimmäiseksi teoistaan, ennen aikojen alkua.
Jehovah possessed me — the beginning of His way, Before His works since then.
23 Iankaikkisuudesta minä olen asetettu olemaan, alusta asti, hamasta maan ikiajoista.
From the age I was anointed, from the first, From former states of the earth.
24 Ennenkuin syvyyksiä oli, synnyin minä, ennenkuin oli lähteitä, vedestä rikkaita.
In there being no depths, I was brought forth, In there being no fountains heavy [with] waters,
25 Ennenkuin vuoret upotettiin paikoilleen, ennen kukkuloita, synnyin minä,
Before mountains were sunk, Before heights, I was brought forth.
26 kun hän ei vielä ollut tehnyt maata, ei mantua, ei maanpiirin tomujen alkuakaan.
While He had not made the earth, and out-places, And the top of the dusts of the world.
27 Kun hän taivaat valmisti, olin minä siinä, kun hän veti piirin syvyyden pinnalle,
In His preparing the heavens I [am] there, In His decreeing a circle on the face of the deep,
28 kun hän teki vahvoiksi pilvet korkeudessa, kun syvyyden lähteet saivat voiman,
In His strengthening clouds above, In His making strong fountains of the deep,
29 kun hän merelle asetti sen rajat, että vedet eivät kävisi hänen käskynsä yli, kun hän vahvisti maan perustukset,
In His setting for the sea its limit, And the waters transgress not His command, In His decreeing the foundations of earth,
30 silloin minä hänen sivullansa hoidokkina olin, ihastuksissani olin päivästä päivään ja leikitsin hänen edessänsä kaikin ajoin;
Then I am near Him, a workman, And I am a delight — day by day. Rejoicing before Him at all times,
31 leikitsin hänen maanpiirinsä päällä, ja ihastukseni olivat ihmislapset.
Rejoicing in the habitable part of His earth, And my delights [are] with the sons of men.
32 Siis te, lapset, kuulkaa minua; autuaat ne, jotka noudattavat minun teitäni!
And now, ye sons, hearken to me, Yea, happy are they who keep my ways.
33 Kuritusta kuulkaa, niin viisastutte; älkää sen antako mennä menojaan.
Hear instruction, and be wise, and slight not.
34 Autuas se ihminen, joka minua kuulee, valvoo minun ovillani päivästä päivään, vartioitsee minun ovieni pieliä!
O the happiness of the man hearkening to me, To watch at my doors day by day, To watch at the door-posts of my entrance.
35 Sillä joka minut löytää, löytää elämän ja saa Herran mielisuosion.
For whoso is finding me, hath found life, And bringeth out good-will from Jehovah.
36 Mutta joka menee minusta harhaan, saa vahingon sielullensa; kaikki, jotka minua vihaavat, rakastavat kuolemaa."
And whoso is missing me, is wronging his soul, All hating me have loved death!
