1 Ja hän puhui heille vertauksen siitä, että heidän tuli aina rukoilla eikä väsyä.
He also showed them, by a parable, that they ought to persist in prayer, without growing weary.
2 Hän sanoi: "Eräässä kaupungissa oli tuomari, joka ei peljännyt Jumalaa eikä hävennyt ihmisiä.
In a certain city, said he, there was a judge, who neither feared God nor regarded man.
3 Ja siinä kaupungissa oli leskivaimo, joka vähän väliä tuli hänen luoksensa ja sanoi: 'Auta minut oikeuteeni riitapuoltani vastaan'.
And there was a widow in that city, who came to him, saying, Do me justice on my adversary.
4 Mutta pitkään aikaan hän ei tahtonut. Vaan sitten hän sanoi mielessään: 'Vaikka en pelkää Jumalaa enkä häpeä ihmisiä,
For some time he refused; be afterward he argued thus with himself, Although I neither fear God, nor regard man;
5 niin kuitenkin, koska tämä leski tuottaa minulle vaivaa, minä autan hänet oikeuteensa, ettei hän lopulta tulisi ja kävisi minun silmilleni'."
yet, because this widow importunes me, I will judge her cause; let she come perpetually, and plague me.
6 Niin Herra sanoi: "Kuulkaa, mitä tuo väärä tuomari sanoo!
Mark, said the Lord, what the unjust judge determined.
7 Eikö sitten Jumala toimittaisi oikeutta valituillensa, jotka häntä yötä päivää avuksi huutavat, ja viivyttäisikö hän heiltä apuansa?
And will not God avenge his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he linger in their cause?
8 Minä sanon teille: hän toimittaa heille oikeuden pian. Kuitenkin, kun Ihmisen Poika tulee, löytäneekö hän uskoa maan päältä?"
I assure you, he will suddenly avenge them. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find this belief upon the earth?

Then addressing some who were conceited of themselves, as being righteous, and despised others, he proposed this example: --

Two men went up to the temple to pray; one a Pharisee, the other a publican.
11 Fariseus seisoi ja rukoili itsekseen näin: 'Jumala, minä kiitän sinua, etten minä ole niinkuin muut ihmiset, riistäjät, väärämieliset, huorintekijät, enkä myöskään niinkuin tuo publikaani.
The Pharisee standing by himself, prayed thus: --O God, I thank thee that I am not as other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 Minä paastoan kahdesti viikossa; minä annan kymmenykset kaikista tuloistani.'
I fast twice a-week. I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 Mutta publikaani seisoi taampana eikä edes tahtonut nostaa silmiään taivasta kohti, vaan löi rintaansa ja sanoi: 'Jumala, ole minulle syntiselle armollinen'.
But the publican, standing at a distance, and not daring so much as to lift up his eyes to heaven, smote his breast, and cried, God, be merciful to me a sinner.
14 Minä sanon teille: tämä meni kotiinsa vanhurskaampana kuin se toinen; sillä jokainen, joka itsensä ylentää, alennetaan, mutta joka itsensä alentaa, se ylennetään."
I assure you, that this man returned home more approved than the other: for whoever exalts himself, shall be humbled; but whoever humbles himself, shall be exalted.
15 Ja he toivat hänen tykönsä myös pieniä lapsia, että hän koskisi heihin; mutta sen nähdessään opetuslapset nuhtelivat tuojia.
Then they presented babes to him, that he might touch them: the disciples observing it, rebuked them.
16 Mutta Jeesus kutsui lapset tykönsä ja sanoi: "Sallikaa lasten tulla minun tyköni älkääkä estäkö heitä, sillä senkaltaisten on Jumalan valtakunta.
But Jesus calling them to him, said, Permit the children to come to me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.
17 Totisesti minä sanon teille: joka ei ota vastaan Jumalan valtakuntaa niinkuin lapsi, se ei pääse sinne sisälle."
Indeed, I say to you, whoever will not receive the kingdom of God as a child, shall never enter it.
18 Ja eräs hallitusmies kysyi häneltä sanoen: "Hyvä opettaja, mitä minun pitää tekemän, että minä iankaikkisen elämän perisin?" (aiōnios g166)
Then a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Teacher, what good shall I do to obtain eternal life? (aiōnios g166)
19 Jeesus sanoi hänelle: "Miksi sanot minua hyväksi? Ei kukaan ole hyvä, paitsi Jumala yksin.
Jesus answered, Why do you call me good? God alone is good.
20 Käskyt sinä tiedät: 'Älä tee huorin', 'Älä tapa', 'Älä varasta', 'Älä sano väärää todistusta', 'Kunnioita isääsi ja äitiäsi'."
You know the commandments: Do not commit adultery; do not commit murder; do not steal; do not give false testimony; honor your father and your mother.
21 Mutta hän sanoi: "Tätä kaikkea minä olen noudattanut nuoruudestani asti".
He replied, All these I have observed from my childhood.
22 Kun Jeesus sen kuuli, sanoi hän hänelle: "Yksi sinulta vielä puuttuu: myy kaikki, mitä sinulla on, ja jakele köyhille, niin sinulla on oleva aarre taivaissa; ja tule ja seuraa minua".
Hearing this, Jesus said to him, Yet in one thing you are deficient: sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: then come and follow me.
23 Mutta tämän kuullessaan hän tuli kovin murheelliseksi, sillä hän oli sangen rikas.
When he heard this, he was exceedingly sorrowful; for he was very rich.
24 Kun Jeesus näki hänen olevan murheissaan, sanoi hän: "Kuinka vaikea onkaan niiden, joilla on tavaraa, päästä Jumalan valtakuntaan!
Jesus, perceiving that he was very sorrowful, said, How difficult will it be for men of opulence to enter the kingdom of God.
25 Helpompi on kamelin käydä neulansilmän läpi kuin rikkaan päästä Jumalan valtakuntaan."
It is easier for a camel to pass through a needle's eye than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
26 Niin ne, jotka sen kuulivat, sanoivat: "Kuka sitten voi pelastua?"
The hearers said, Who, then, can be saved?"
27 Mutta hän sanoi: "Mikä ihmisille on mahdotonta, se on Jumalalle mahdollista".
Jesus answered, Things impossible to men, are possible to God.
28 Silloin Pietari sanoi: "Katso, me olemme luopuneet siitä, mitä meillä oli, ja seuranneet sinua".
Then Peter said, Lo! we have forsaken all, and followed thee.
29 Niin hän sanoi heille: "Totisesti minä sanon teille: ei ole ketään, joka Jumalan valtakunnan tähden on luopunut talosta tai vaimosta tai veljistä tai vanhemmista tai lapsista,
Jesus answered, Indeed, I say to you, that there is none who shall have forsaken his house, or parents, or brothers, or wife, or children, on account of the kingdom of God;
31 Ja hän otti tykönsä ne kaksitoista ja sanoi heille: "Katso, me menemme ylös Jerusalemiin, ja kaikki on täysin toteutuva, mitä profeettain kautta on kirjoitettu Ihmisen Pojasta.
Then Jesus, taking the twelve aside, said to them, We are now going to Jerusalem, where that all the prophets have written, shall be accomplished on the Son of Man.
32 Sillä hänet annetaan pakanain käsiin, ja häntä pilkataan ja häväistään ja syljetään;
For he shall be delivered to the Gentiles, and ridicules, and insulted, and spitted on.
33 ja ruoskittuaan he tappavat hänet, ja kolmantena päivänä hän nousee ylös."
And after scourging, they will kill him; and he shall rise again the third day.
34 Mutta he eivät ymmärtäneet tästä mitään, ja tämä puhe oli heiltä niin salattu, etteivät he käsittäneet, mitä sanottiin.
But they understood none of these things: this discourse was dark to them; they did not comprehend its meaning.
35 Ja hänen lähestyessään Jerikoa eräs sokea istui tien vieressä kerjäten.
When he came near to Jericho, a blind man who sat by the way-side begging,
36 Ja kuullessaan, että siitä kulki kansaa ohi, hän kyseli, mitä se oli.
hearing the crowd pass by, inquired what was the matter.
37 He ilmoittivat hänelle Jeesuksen, Nasaretilaisen, menevän ohitse.
And being told that Jesus the Nazarene was passing by,
38 Niin hän huusi sanoen: "Jeesus, Daavidin poika, armahda minua!"
he immediately cried, saying, Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me.
39 Ja edelläkulkijat nuhtelivat häntä saadakseen hänet vaikenemaan; mutta hän huusi vielä enemmän: "Daavidin poika, armahda minua!"
They who went before, charged him to be silent; but he cried the louder, saying, Jesus, Son of David, have pity on me.
40 Silloin Jeesus seisahtui ja käski taluttaa hänet tykönsä. Ja hänen tultuaan lähelle Jeesus kysyi häneltä:
Jesus stopped, and commanded them to bring the man to him. And when he was nigh, he asked him, saying,
41 "Mitä tahdot, että minä sinulle tekisin?" Hän sanoi: "Herra, että saisin näköni jälleen".
What do you wish me to do for you? He answered, Master, to give me my sight.
42 Niin Jeesus sanoi hänelle: "Saa näkösi; sinun uskosi on sinut pelastanut".
And Jesus said to him, Receive your sight; your faith has cured you.
43 Ja heti hän sai näkönsä ja seurasi häntä ylistäen Jumalaa. Ja sen nähdessään kaikki kansa kiitti Jumalaa.
Instantly he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people saw it, and praised God.
