Johanneksen 1
1 Alussa oli Sana, ja Sana oli Jumalan tykönä, ja Sana oli Jumala.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 Hän oli alussa Jumalan tykönä.
The same was in the beginning with God.
3 Kaikki on saanut syntynsä hänen kauttaan, ja ilman häntä ei ole syntynyt mitään, mikä syntynyt on.
All things were made by Him, and without Him nothing was made, that has been made.
4 Hänessä oli elämä, ja elämä oli ihmisten valkeus.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of the men.
5 Ja valkeus loistaa pimeydessä, ja pimeys ei sitä käsittänyt.
And the light shineth in the darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 Oli mies, Jumalan lähettämä; hänen nimensä oli Johannes.
There was a man having been sent from God, whose name was John;
7 Hän tuli todistamaan, todistaaksensa valkeudesta, että kaikki uskoisivat hänen kauttansa.
The same came for a witness, that he might bear witness concerning the light, in order that all through him might believe.
8 Ei hän ollut se valkeus, mutta hän tuli valkeudesta todistamaan.
He was not the light, but came that he might bear witness concerning the light.
9 Totinen valkeus, joka valistaa jokaisen ihmisen, oli tulossa maailmaan.
That was the true light, which lighteth every man, coming into the world.
10 Maailmassa hän oli, ja maailma on hänen kauttaan saanut syntynsä, ja maailma ei häntä tuntenut.
He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not.
11 Hän tuli omiensa tykö, ja hänen omansa eivät ottaneet häntä vastaan.
He came unto His own, and His own received Him not.
12 Mutta kaikille, jotka ottivat hänet vastaan, hän antoi voiman tulla Jumalan lapsiksi, niille, jotka uskovat hänen nimeensä,
But so many as received Him, to them gave He the right to become the children of God, to those believing on His name:
13 jotka eivät ole syntyneet verestä eikä lihan tahdosta eikä miehen tahdosta, vaan Jumalasta.
who were born not of bloods, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 Ja Sana tuli lihaksi ja asui meidän keskellämme, ja me katselimme hänen kirkkauttansa, senkaltaista kirkkautta, kuin ainokaisella Pojalla on Isältä; ja hän oli täynnä armoa ja totuutta.
The Word was made flesh, and tented among us (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten with the Father), full of grace and truth.
15 Johannes todisti hänestä ja huusi sanoen: "Tämä on se, josta minä sanoin: se, joka minun jälkeeni tulee, on ollut minun edelläni, sillä hän on ollut ennen kuin minä."
John beareth witness concerning Him, and cried out saying; This is He of whom I spoke, He that cometh after me has been before me:
16 Ja hänen täyteydestään me kaikki olemme saaneet, ja armoa armon päälle.
because He was my Creator. And of His fullness we all received grace upon grace.
17 Sillä laki on annettu Mooseksen kautta; armo ja totuus on tullut Jeesuksen Kristuksen kautta.
Because the law was given by Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 Ei kukaan ole Jumalaa milloinkaan nähnyt; ainokainen Poika, joka on Isän helmassa, on hänet ilmoittanut.
No one has ever seen God; the only begotten Son, the one being in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared him.
19 Ja tämä on Johanneksen todistus, kun juutalaiset lähettivät hänen luoksensa Jerusalemista pappeja ja leeviläisiä kysymään häneltä: "Kuka sinä olet?"
This is the testimony of John when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem, that they might ask him,
20 Ja hän tunnusti eikä kieltänyt; ja hän tunnusti: "Minä en ole Kristus".
Who art thou? and he confessed and denied not, and confessed that, I am not the Christ.
21 Ja he kysyivät häneltä: "Mikä sitten? Oletko sinä Elias?" Hän sanoi: "En ole". "Se profeettako olet?" Hän vastasi: "En".
They asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he says, I am not. Art thou that prophet?
22 Niin he sanoivat hänelle: "Kuka olet, että voisimme antaa vastauksen niille, jotka meidät lähettivät? Mitä sanot itsestäsi?"
And he responded, No. Then they said to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those having sent us. What do you say concerning yourself?
23 Hän sanoi: "Minä olen huutavan ääni erämaassa: 'Tehkää tie tasaiseksi Herralle', niinkuin profeetta Esaias on sanonut."
I am the voice of one roaring in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord as Isaiah the prophet said.
24 Ja lähetetyt olivat fariseuksia;
And those having been sent were of the Pharisees.
25 ja he kysyivät häneltä ja sanoivat hänelle: "Miksi sitten kastat, jos et ole Kristus etkä Elias etkä se profeetta?"
And they asked him, and said to him, Then why do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor that prophet?
26 Johannes vastasi heille sanoen: "Minä kastan vedellä; mutta teidän keskellänne seisoo hän, jota te ette tunne.
John responded to them, saying, I baptize with water: There standeth One in your midst whom you do not know,
27 Hän on se, joka tulee minun jälkeeni ja jonka kengänpaulaa minä en ole arvollinen päästämään."
the One coming after me, of whom I am not worthy that I may loose the latchet of His sandal.
28 Tämä tapahtui Betaniassa, Jordanin tuolla puolella, jossa Johannes oli kastamassa.
These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 Seuraavana päivänä hän näki Jeesuksen tulevan tykönsä ja sanoi: "Katso, Jumalan Karitsa, joka ottaa pois maailman synnin!
On the following day he sees Jesus coming to him, and says, Behold the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world.
30 Tämä on se, josta minä sanoin: 'Minun jälkeeni tulee mies, joka on ollut minun edelläni, sillä hän on ollut ennen kuin minä'.
This is He concerning whom I spoke, A man cometh after me who has been before me: because he was my Creator.
31 Ja minä en tuntenut häntä; mutta sitä varten, että hän tulisi julki Israelille, minä olen tullut vedellä kastamaan."
And I did not know Him, but in order that He may be made manifest to Israel, on this account I came baptizing with water.
32 Ja Johannes todisti sanoen: "Minä näin Hengen laskeutuvan taivaasta alas niinkuin kyyhkysen, ja se jäi hänen päällensä.
And John testified saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and remained on Him.
33 Ja minä en tuntenut häntä; mutta hän, joka lähetti minut vedellä kastamaan, sanoi minulle: 'Se, jonka päälle sinä näet Hengen laskeutuvan ja jäävän, hän on se, joka kastaa Pyhällä Hengellä'.
And I did not know Him, but the One having sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, On whom you may see the Spirit descending and remaining on Him, He is the one baptizing with the Holy Ghost.
34 Ja minä olen sen nähnyt ja olen todistanut, että tämä on Jumalan Poika."
And I have seen, and testified that He is the Son of God.
35 Seuraavana päivänä Johannes taas seisoi siellä ja kaksi hänen opetuslapsistansa.
On the following day John again stood, and two of his disciples,
36 Ja kiinnittäen katseensa Jeesukseen, joka siellä käveli, hän sanoi: "Katso, Jumalan Karitsa!"
and looking upon Jesus walking about, says, Behold, the Lamb of God.
37 Ja ne kaksi opetuslasta kuulivat hänen näin puhuvan ja seurasivat Jeesusta.
And the two disciples heard him speaking and followed Jesus.
38 Niin Jeesus kääntyi ja nähdessään heidän seuraavan sanoi heille: "Mitä te etsitte?" He vastasivat hänelle: "Rabbi" -se on käännettynä: opettaja-"missä sinä majailet?"
Jesus turning and seeing them following, says to them, What are you seeking? and they said to Him, Doctor, (which is said, being interpreted, Teacher), where dwellest thou?
39 Hän sanoi heille: "Tulkaa ja katsokaa". Niin he menivät ja näkivät, missä hän majaili, ja viipyivät hänen tykönään sen päivän. Silloin oli noin kymmenes hetki.
He says to them; Come and see. Then they came and saw where He dwelleth, and they abode with Him that day: it was about the tenth hour.
40 Andreas, Simon Pietarin veli, oli toinen niistä kahdesta, jotka olivat kuulleet, mitä Johannes sanoi, ja seuranneet Jeesusta.
Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two hearing from John, and follows Him;
41 Hän tapasi ensin veljensä Simonin ja sanoi hänelle: "Me olemme löytäneet Messiaan", se on käännettynä: Kristus.
he first finds his own brother Simon, and says to him, We have found Messiah, which is being interpreted, Christ.
42 Ja hän vei hänet Jeesuksen tykö. Jeesus kiinnitti katseensa häneen ja sanoi: "Sinä olet Simon, Johanneksen poika; sinun nimesi on oleva Keefas", joka käännettynä on Pietari.
He led him to Jesus. Jesus looking upon him said; Thou art Simon the Son of Jonah, thou shalt be called Cephas (which is interpreted, Peter).
43 Seuraavana päivänä Jeesus tahtoi lähteä Galileaan; ja hän tapasi Filippuksen ja sanoi hänelle: "Seuraa minua".
On the following day he wished to depart into Galilee, and he finds Philip. And Jesus says to him; Follow me.
44 Ja Filippus oli Beetsaidasta, Andreaan ja Pietarin kaupungista.
Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Filippus tapasi Natanaelin ja sanoi hänelle: "Me olemme löytäneet sen, josta Mooses laissa ja profeetat ovat kirjoittaneet, Jeesuksen, Joosefin pojan, Nasaretista".
Philip finds Nathanael and says to him, We have found Him, of whom Moses and the prophets, in the law, did write, Jesus the son of Joseph, who is from Nazareth.
46 Natanael sanoi hänelle: "Voiko Nasaretista tulla mitään hyvää?" Filippus sanoi hänelle: "Tule ja katso".
Nathanael said to him, Is any good thing able to come out of Nazareth? Philip says to him, Come and see.
47 Jeesus näki Natanaelin tulevan tykönsä ja sanoi hänestä: "Katso, oikea israelilainen, jossa ei vilppiä ole!"
Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and says concerning him, Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile.
48 Natanael sanoi hänelle: "Mistä minut tunnet?" Jeesus vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: "Ennenkuin Filippus sinua kutsui, kun olit viikunapuun alla, näin minä sinut".
Nathanael says to Him, Whence do you know me? Jesus responded and said to him, Before Philip called you, I saw you, being under the fig-tree.
49 Natanael vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: "Rabbi, sinä olet Jumalan Poika, sinä olet Israelin kuningas".
Nathanael responded, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, the King of Israel.
50 Jeesus vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: "Sentähden, että minä sanoin sinulle: 'minä näin sinut viikunapuun alla', sinä uskot. Sinä saat nähdä suurempia, kuin nämä ovat."
Jesus responded and said to him, Because I said to thee, that I saw thee under the fig-tree, dost thou believe? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 Ja hän sanoi hänelle: "Totisesti, totisesti minä sanon teille: te saatte nähdä taivaan avoinna ja Jumalan enkelien nousevan ylös ja laskeutuvan alas Ihmisen Pojan päälle."
And He says to him, Truly, truly, I say unto you, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
