1 "Katso, kaikkea tätä on silmäni nähnyt, korvani kuullut ja sitä tarkannut.
Lo, mine eye has seen all this, mine ear has heard and understood it.
2 Mitä te tiedätte, sen tiedän minäkin; en ole minä teitä huonompi.
What all of you know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior unto you.
3 Mutta minä mielin puhua Kaikkivaltiaalle, minä tahdon tuoda todistukseni Jumalaa vastaan.
Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.
4 Sillä te laastaroitte valheella, olette puoskareita kaikki tyynni.
But all of you are forgers of lies, all of you are all physicians of no value.
5 Jospa edes osaisitte visusti vaieta, niin se olisi teille viisaudeksi luettava!
O that all of you would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.
6 Kuulkaa siis, mitä minä todistan, ja tarkatkaa, mitä huuleni väittävät vastaan.
Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.
7 Tahdotteko puolustaa Jumalaa väärällä puheella ja puhua vilppiä hänen puolestaan;
Will all of you speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?
8 tahdotteko olla puolueellisia hänen hyväksensä tahi ajaa Jumalan asiaa?
Will all of you accept his person? will all of you contend for God?
9 Koituuko siitä silloin hyvää, kun hän käy teitä tutkimaan; tahi voitteko pettää hänet, niinkuin ihminen petetään?
Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocks another, do all of you so mock him?
10 Hän teitä ankarasti rankaisee, jos salassa olette puolueellisia.
He will surely reprove you, if all of you do secretly accept persons.
11 Eikö hänen korkeutensa peljästytä teitä ja hänen kauhunsa teitä valtaa?
Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall upon you?
12 Tuhkalauselmia ovat teidän mietelauseenne, savivarustuksia silloin teidän varustuksenne.
Your remembrances are like unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.
13 Vaietkaa, antakaa minun olla, niin minä puhun, käyköön minun miten tahansa.
Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.
14 Miksi minä otan lihani hampaisiini ja panen henkeni kämmenelleni?
Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?
15 Katso, hän surmaa minut, en minä enää mitään toivo; tahdon vain vaellustani puolustaa häntä vastaan.
Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
16 Jo sekin on minulle voitoksi; sillä jumalaton ei voi käydä hänen kasvojensa eteen.
He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.
17 Kuulkaa tarkasti minun puhettani, ja mitä minä lausun korvienne kuullen.
Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.
18 Katso, olen ryhtynyt käymään oikeutta; minä tiedän, että olen oikeassa.
Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.
19 Kuka saattaa käräjöidä minua vastaan? Silloin minä vaikenen ja kuolen.
Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the spirit.
20 Kahta vain älä minulle tee, niin en lymyä sinun kasvojesi edestä:
Only do not two things unto me: then will I not hide myself from you.
21 ota pois kätesi minun päältäni, ja älköön kauhusi minua peljättäkö;
Withdraw your hand far from me: and let not your dread make me afraid.
22 sitten haasta, niin minä vastaan, tahi minä puhun, ja vastaa sinä minulle.
Then call you, and I will answer: or let me speak, and answer you me.
23 Mikä on minun pahain tekojeni ja syntieni luku? Ilmaise minulle rikkomukseni ja syntini.
How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.
24 Miksi peität kasvosi ja pidät minua vihollisenasi?
Wherefore hide you your face, and hold me for your enemy?
25 Lentävää lehteäkö peljätät, kuivunutta korttako vainoat,
Will you break a leaf driven back and forth? and will you pursue the dry stubble?
26 koskapa määräät katkeruuden minun osakseni ja perinnökseni nuoruuteni pahat teot,
For you write bitter things against me, and make me to possess the iniquities of my youth.
27 koska panet jalkani jalkapuuhun, vartioitset kaikkia minun polkujani ja piirrät rajan jalkapohjieni ääreen?" -
You put my feet also in the stocks, and look narrowly unto all my paths; you set a print upon the heels of my feet.
28 "Hän hajoaa kuin lahopuu, kuin koinsyömä vaate."
And he, as a rotten thing, consumes, as a garment that is moth eaten.
