Jobin 11

1 Sitten naemalainen Soofar lausui ja sanoi:

Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said:

2 "Jäisikö suulas puhe vastausta vaille, ja saisiko suupaltti olla oikeassa?

Shall not the multitude of words receive an answer? Shall the man of words be justified?

3 Saattaisivatko jaarituksesi miehet vaikenemaan, niin että saisit pilkata, kenenkään sinua häpeään häätämättä?

Shall thy boastings make men hold their peace? Shalt thou mock, and none put thee to shame?

4 Sanoithan: 'Minun opetukseni on selkeä, ja minä olen puhdas sinun silmissäsi'.

Thou sayest, My speech is pure; I am clean in thine eyes, [[O God!]]

5 Mutta jospa Jumala puhuisi ja avaisi huulensa sinua vastaan

But O that God would speak, And open his lips against thee;

6 ja ilmaisisi sinulle viisauden salaisuudet, että hänellä on ymmärrystä monin verroin! Silloin huomaisit, että Jumala on painanut unhoon montakin pahaa tekoasi.

That he would show thee the secrets of his wisdom, —His wisdom, which is unsearchable! Then shouldst thou know that God forgiveth thee many of thine iniquities.

7 Sinäkö käsittäisit Jumalan tutkimattomuuden tahi pääsisit Kaikkivaltiaan täydellisyydestä perille?

Canst thou search out the deep things of God? Canst thou find out the Almighty to perfection?

8 Se on korkea kuin taivas-mitä voit tehdä, syvempi kuin tuonela-mitä voit ymmärtää? (Sheol h7585)

'Tis high as heaven, what canst thou do? Deeper than hell, what canst thou know? (Sheol h7585)

9 Se on pitempi kuin maa ja laveampi kuin meri.

The measure thereof is longer than the earth, And broader than the sea.

10 Jos hän liitää paikalle ja vangitsee ja kutsuu oikeuden kokoon, niin kuka voi häntä estää?

If he apprehend, and bind, and bring to trial, Who shall oppose him?

11 Sillä hän tuntee valheen miehet, vääryyden hän näkee tarkkaamattakin.

For he knoweth the unrighteous; He seeth iniquity, when they do not observe it.

12 Onttopäinen mies voi viisastua ja villiaasin varsa ihmistyä.

But vain man is without understanding; Yea, man is born a wild ass's colt.

13 Jos sinäkin valmistat sydämesi ja ojennat kätesi hänen puoleensa-

If thou direct thy heart, And stretch out thy hands, toward him;

14 mutta jos kädessäsi on vääryys, heitä se kauas äläkä anna petoksen asua majoissasi-

If thou put away iniquity from thy hand, And let not wickedness dwell in thy habitation, —

15 silloin saat kohottaa kasvosi ilman häpeän tahraa, olet kuin vaskesta valettu etkä mitään pelkää.

Then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; Yea, thou shalt be steadfast, and have no fear.

16 Silloin unhotat onnettomuutesi, muistelet sitä kuin vettä, joka on virrannut pois.

For thou shalt forget thy misery, Or remember it as waters that have passed away.

17 Elämäsi selkenee kirkkaammaksi keskipäivää, pimeänkin aika on niinkuin aamunkoitto.

Thy life shall be brighter than the noon-day; Now thou art in darkness, thou shalt then be as morning.

18 Silloin olet turvassa, sillä sinulla on toivo; tähystelet-käyt turvallisesti levolle,

Thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; Now thou art disappointed, thou shalt then rest in safety.

19 asetut makaamaan, kenenkään peljättämättä, ja monet etsivät sinun suosiotasi.

Thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; And many shall make suit unto thee.

20 Mutta jumalattomain silmät raukeavat; turvapaikka on heiltä mennyt, ja heidän toivonsa on huokaus."

But the eyes of the wicked shall be wearied out; They shall find no refuge; Their hope is—the breathing forth of life.
